  • In this paper we propose a method to detect human faces in color images. Many existing systems use a window-based classifier that scans the entire image for the presence of the human face and such systems suffers from scale variation, pose variation, illumination changes, etc. Here, we propose a lighting insensitive face detection method based upon the edge and skin tone information of the input color image. First, image enhancement is performed, especially if the image is acquired from an unconstrained illumination condition. Next, skin segmentation in YCbCr and RGB space is conducted. The result of skin segmentation is refined using the skin tone percentage index method. The edges of the input image are combined with the skin tone image to separate all non-face regions from candidate faces. Candidate verification using primitive shape features of the face is applied to decide which of the candidate regions corresponds to a face. The advantage of the proposed method is that it can detect faces that are of different sizes, in different poses, and that are making different expressions under unconstrained illumination conditions.

  • The purpose of the research was to compare the preference of coloration of traditional Korean dress according to tone variation of green jacket by Korean and American women college students. The results of research can be summarized as follows. Korean students preferred skirt of vivid red color and light green jacket, but American students did not like it. Korean students did not like the skirt and jacket of same color, but American students preferred it. Both Korean and American students preferred skirt and jacket of different tone. Korean students liked skirt of dull blue and jacket of light dull green, skirt of dark blue and jacket of vivid, dull green. American students liked skirt of vivid violet and jacket of vivid dull, dark green. They also liked skirt of light yellow and jacket of light green, light skirt of blue, violet and jacket of light, dull, dark green, skirt of dark blue and vivid, light, dull gueen, skirt of dark violet and jacket of dull, dark green.

  • This study examines and analyzes the current status, characteristics and properties of Super-Graphic as a visual element with Super Graphic designed on the wall of apartment housing, typifies them and explains the preference and evaluative structure by each type. The results of this study are as follows: According to color environment of Super-Graphic, N-tone colors are 21.4% and YR-tone colors are 14.5%. In the whole distribution, cold color tone is 41.4% and warm color tone is 37.2%. In the brightness, 72.9% of the entire Super Graphic use high brightness and in the saturation, 51.2% show low saturation, achromatic colors are 21.4% and high saturation is 16.5%. As a result of conducting SD test to analyze the preference of Super-Graphic, 'wonderful' is most negative variable, followed by 'heterogeneous', 'splendid', 'romantic' variety'. Positive variables are 'monotone', 'stable' and 'calm'. As a result of factor analysis to reveal the evaluative structure of Super Graphic image based on the above results, five factors including brightness, saturation, stability, harmony and ordered are extracted and it is considered that these are important variables to be reflected in designing Super Graphic in future.

  • This study aims to understand the advertising recall effect in accordance with color scheme of advertising by subdividing it into brand, picture, color, and style. The results of this study are like following. In the results of the study on advertising recall, first, there were significant differences in picture and color recall. The picture recall was the highest in complementary color scheme while color scheme was shown the highest in single and complementary color schemes. Regarding the advertising recall in accordance with subscription time of fashion magazines, second, the advertising recall can be different in accordance with subscription time of magazine, major, purchase experience, and interest. In case of picture advertising recall depending on major, third, majors highly recognized complementary color scheme in picture recall and also similar color scheme in color recall. Regarding the advertising recall depending on experience in purchasing magazines, purchasers highly recognized complementary color scheme in picture recall and also tone-in-tone color scheme in color recall. In case of the advertising recall in accordance with interest in fashion advertising, the group with interest highly recognized complementary color scheme in picture recall and also similar color scheme in color recall.

  • In this research, in order to find out the effect of the area ratio in the harmonic sense assessment of the coloration of Korean clothes, the coloration of a Korean jacket and a skirt was compounded with a similar coloration and a contrast coloration. The respondents were asked to evaluate 16 stimuli of the traditional Korean skirt and jacket with the coloration of the Korean jacket/ skirt, the skirt/ Korean jacket was separately compounded to be 4 tones such as vivid, light, dull, dark. The subjects were 44 female undergraduate students. The results of each can be summerized as follows. As to similar coloration, the korean yellow jacket and red skirt, Korean students feel vivid and dull tone was harmonious, and American students feel vivid, light, and dark tone were harmonious coloration. In inversed case, red korean jacket and yellow skirt, both countries' students recognized that the vivid tone was harmonious. Korean students gave higher points to korean traditional dress in similar coloration such as yellow korean jacket which was small area and red skirt which was large area coloration than inversed color area ratio which red korean jacket and yellow skirt. As to contrast coloration, the korean green jacket and red skirt, Korean students feel vivid tone was harmonious, and American students feel vivid, dark tone were harmonious coloration. In inversed case, red korean jacket and green skirt were recognized that any tone was not harmonious for both countries' students. Both countries of student showed the culture gap. Compared with American students, Korean students were familiar with korean dress's traditional coloration, as a result familiar coloration was recognized harmonious coloration.

  • This study was aimed to consider the influence of hue-tone, dyes, and mordants of naturally dyed silk fabric on color sensibility image factors and to establish color sensibility image scales of naturally dyed silk fabric by color and image descriptors. By single or sequential dyeing with various natural dyes commercially available in domestic and foreign market on the same silk fabric, a total of 66 colored fabric stimuli were prepared and they were used to evaluate subjective color sensibility image by 40 participants. As results, four different color sensibility image factors for naturally dyed silk fabric, 'delight', 'natural', 'modern' and 'attractive' were extracted. All of factors were significantly influenced by hue-tone, dyes, and mordants. Furthermore, by using color sensibility image adjectives and colors, multidimensional image scales were established, which leads to the conclusions that the results of this study help to design color sensibility-oriented naturally dyed fabric and apparel products.

  • fhe purpose of lhlS study was to inves, igate ,he color preference of pees among Korean and Japanese Lnrversity students groups. Looking at a color chart contammg (is colored chips arranged sequentlally by hue and tone. the subjects from two countries were asked to choose their five most hlghly preferred colors and five least preferred colors. The data was classifed by hues and tones and then both sexes. The results were analyzed by comparison of the general orders of preference, and comparison of the selected colors by hues and tones and both sexes. The correlation of color preference in two countries was also studled uSlng Pearson's product moment correlatlOn cod ficren t. The results of this study were summaried as follows: 1. The most preferred color in two countries was vivid blue, and the least preferred color in two countries was grayish brown. 2. The most prefered hues in each countries were purple blue in Korea and blue in Japan. The least preferred hue in two countries was yellow red. 3. The most preferred tone in two countries was vivid and least preferred tone in two countries was grayish. 4. The correlation of the color preference between two countries was studied usmg Pearson's product moment correlation coefflCient for both hues and tones.
