PECOLE (Peer-to-Peer Collaborative Environment) is a P2P-based multimedia distributed collaborative environment supporting a collaborative workspace which is composed of a variety of collaborative applications such as multi-chat, video conferencing, screen sharing and etc. Unfortunately, due to the PECOLE's simple group management, it is impossible to perform collaboration activities while joining multiple groups. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of PECOLE+ which is an extension of PECOLE. PECOLE+ resolves the drawback of PECOLE by providing the Group Management Service and the Workspace Management Service. The Group Management Service provides functionalities such as creating groups, joining multiple groups, and searching groups, and etc. The Workspace Management Service provides each group with an associated workspace, supporting the execution of collaborative applications over the workspace. In addition, any collaborative applications with the provided plug-in interfaces can be executed over the workspace as a PECOLE+ collaborative application.
Amplified Collaboration Environment(ACE) is a display-rich project room that enables distributed teams to intensively work together to solve a complex problem. This paper presents reviews of some most important shared workspace models in real-time collaboration systems. It then describes a set of iterative design studies of evaluation the shared workspace for ACEs. The study involved small groups of users in two ACEs performed a collaborative visualization and analysis task while varying the display technology configuration. The goal of this study was to enhance intensive collaborative work in ACEs. The results showed that the participants benefited from the ability to see others' work over the high-resolution shared workspace, which helped enhance group awareness and performance.

Recently, advanced information technologies including Internet-related technology and distributed object technology have opened new possibilities for collaborative designs. In this paper, we discuss computer supports for collaborative design in a distributed environment. The proposed system is the Internet-centric system composed of an engineering framework, collaborative virtual workspace and engineering service. It allows the distributed designers to more efficiently and collaboratively work their engineering tasks throughout the design process.

Recently, SNS is widely used for various purposes such as fast decision making or effective business process in educational institutions or enterprise as well as general services for social networking. Unfortunately, all of existing general SNS platforms do not provide user groups with workspaces for sharing information in a hierarchical way, nor support the functionality of workspace backup for migrations. In this paper, we present a collaborative workspace environment named ElggSpace which extends the Elgg SNS platform with the C3ware collaborative middleware. With the help of C3ware, ElggSpace systematically supports collaborative workspaces that enable user groups to share massive resource in cloud storages. In addition, ElggSpace allows high-level access controls for resources management and the functionality of resource backup, supporting effective collaboration.
Collaboration has become essential in the product design process due to internationalized and specialized business environments. This study presents a real-time collaborative 3D design workspace for distributed designers, focusing on the development and the evaluation of new interaction techniques supporting nonverbal communication such as awareness of participants, shared manipulation and tele-presence. Requirements were identified in terms of shared objects, shared workspaces and awareness through literature reviews and an observational study. An Augmented Reality based collaborative design workspace was developed, in which two main interaction techniques, Turn-table and Virtual Shadow, were incorporated to support shared manipulation and tele-presence. Turn-table provides intuitive shared manipulation of 3D models and physical cues for awareness of remote participants. Virtual shadow supports natural and continuous awareness of location, gestures and pointing of partners. A lab-based evaluation was conducted and the results showed that interaction techniques effectively supported awareness of general pointing and facilitated discussion in 3D model reviews. The workspace and the interaction techniques can facilitate more natural communication and increase the efficiency of collaboration on virtual 3D models between distributed participants (designer-designer, engineer, or modeler) in collaborative design environments.
e-Learning contents are composed of compounding multimedia data. It requires many professionals in contents development stage. The process of e-learning contents development can be seen as a collaborative work. In the perspective of a collaborative work process, the whole process of e-learning contents development would be regarded as collaborative work process for each participant as well as for whole group members. Most of collaborative works in contents development field are widely distributed. Members of work groups require workspaces for sharing information and communicating each other. In addition to workspaces, it also needs to support collaborative reflection such as planning for collaborative work and monitoring for work process. This paper is intended to develop the reflective collaborative work system for e-Learning contents development in order to support the systemic process of e-learning contents development. The reflective collaborative work system is composed of four supportive parts: work flow management, personal workspace, collaborative workspace, and collaborative reflection.

This study is about a design method for deriving task safety scenarios for the application of collaborative robots. A five-step process for deriving task safety scenarios for collaborative robots has been proposed, which focuses on the type of collaboration between human and collaborative robot. The three types of collaboration were classified according to the collaboration workspace and the worktime of human and collaborative robot. Based on these three types of collaboration, task safety scenarios include scenarios that predict risk from unintended use during work. Collaboration with collaborative robot is a human-centered process because human actions can create dangerous situations. Besides, we improved the understanding of this design methodology by presenting examples of the application of task safety scenarios according to the process for each type of collaboration.

As an IETF standard protocol, WebDAV provides infrastructure for managing and authoring resources and supports asynchronous collaborative authoring on the Web. The CoSlide server is an extension of the Jakarta Slide WebDAV server, providing various workspaces and collaborative services through the WebDAV protocol. The CoSlide server supports workspaces for storing and sharing information of various users, and provides environment for effective collaborative authoring. Actual collaboration activities are performed through a collaboration client software which provides collaboration services along with the CoSlide server. In this paper, we describe the development of the CoSpace client which operates in association with the CoSlide server, presenting effective collaborative environment. The CoSpace client provides user interfaces for accessing and controlling the resources of each workspace on the CoSlide server. In particular, CoSpace provides the facility to launch an authoring application from its workspace view, automatic locking, and downloading the content to be edited, and resource movement using mouse drag & drop.
Since software development team members have been more geographically spread due to the globalization of business and Internet technologies, the management of deliverables and communication efforts for developing high-quality software products on time is becoming more complicated. Among the functional requirements for collaborative software development management, the manipulation of shared information objects is essential for the collaborative work among distributed development team members. This paper proposes an integrated information object management framework comprised of a so-called BOC (Bill Of Class) scheme and a standardized software part dictionary for managing shared information objects efficiently among distributed co-workers. In order to manage these complex information objects, the proposed framework adopt product structures represented by Bills Of Materials (BOM) as stems for integrating the various information objects. Based on the proposed framework, a collaborative software development management system (CSDMS) is implemented, and the functionalities and the structure of the system are also described in this paper. The proposed system provides sufficient functionalities for the change management of information objects and the management of their relationship to other objects rather than existing system.
