  • This study was to present the method for estimating the horizontal coefficient of consolidation by using velocity method which was based on the Barren's equation. Horizontal drainage consolidation tests, including a radial drainage consolidation test, a cylindrical consolidation test, and a large soil box test, were performed to examine its validity. Using the velocity method, horizontal coefficient of consolidation was calculated and compared with lost method, √t method, Magnan & Deroy's method, Bergado's method.

  • The sound absorption coefficient of glass wool (bulk density of 48 kg/m:1 and 32 kg/m7) was measured by reverberation room method as varying their cross-sectional area. The results show that the absorption is larger for smaller samples because of edge effect. The absorption coefficient with two different kinds of sources. 1/.7-octave band and while noise, gives similar values.

  • We obtain multiplicity results for the nonlinear biharmonic problem with variable coefficient. We prove by the Leray-Schauder degree theory that the nonlinear biharmonic problem has multiple solutions for the biharmonic problem with the variable coefficient semilinear term under some conditions.

  • We obtain the multiple solutions for the fourth order elliptic problem with a variable coefficient and a jumping semilinear term. We have a result that there exist at least two solutions if the variable coefficient of the semilinear term crosses some number of the eigenvalues of the biharmonic eigenvalue problem. We obtain this multiplicity result by applying the Leray-Schauder degree theory.

  • coefficient precisely, experiments were carried out in three categories which contain the regime of (1) constant wire temperature (2) constant fluid temperature (3) constant temperature difference between wire and fluid. Measurements were made with electrically heated circular tungsten wire placed normal to air stream at the exit of jet. Heat transfer coefficient was increased with wire temperature increasing and decreased by fluid temperaure increasing and was not changed with varying both temperature if their difference were kept constant.

  • This paper presents a similarity coefficient based approach to the problem of machine-part grouping for cellular manufacturing. The method uses relevant production data such as part type, production volume, routing sequence to make machine cells and part families for cell formation. A new similarity coefficient using weighted factors is introduced and an algorithm for formation of machine cells and part families is developed. A comparative study of two similarity coefficient methods, Gupta and Seifoddini's method and the proposed method, is conducted.

  • To understand the gaseous behaviour of volatile organic compounds in the unsaturated zone, their volatilization coefficient k$_{Lg}$ is evaluated. An experiment is conducted to examine the dependence of k$_{Lg}$ on the concentration of the dissolution, presence of unsaturated zone and depth of the unsaturated zone. The results show that the volatilization coefficient is not dependent on the concentration under the constant temperature and pressure. It is also find that k$_{Lg}$ depends on the presence of the unsaturated zone rather than its depth.depth.

  • This paper describes the development of performance analysis technique for a leaf-type gas lubricated fail bearing. Stiffness coefficient and frictional damping due to the slip between all contacts of leaves are evaluated for various leaf structures. The fluid film thickness and pressure distribution are computed but it is not considered the elastic deformation by film pressure. The analysis results include the effects that the curvature radius and the length of leaf and the friction coefficient have on the static and dynamic characteristics of the foil bearings.

  • Automotive aerodynamic drag coefficient is important variable for vehicle's driving performance and fuel economy. In this research, we applied genetic algorithm to determine the geometrical figure which can optimize Carr's automotive aerodynamic underbody coefficient. And it's verified by previous research.
