  • In this paper, New type of Static Edge Triggered D Flip-Flop Circuits which are effective for the sequencial selecting and addressing of Matrix type Electrodes being applied to Flat Display Devices is proposed by the Design Technique using the Transmission Characteristics of Feedback Transistors and Charge Back Up Function. These Circuits composed of 2-4 less transistors in number than Conventional Static D Flip Flop's have some advantages that the Maximum Transition Time of Clock Signals allowed is increased by 100-450 times more than that of the Conventional circuit at 100KHz Clock Frequence and Circuit Safety is much increased by making the wider ranges, 1-4V, of Clock Levelas a Non-operating periods than 3-3.2V ranges in case of the Conventional Circuit at 10MHz clock frequence. By these advantages, These circuits can be very effectively used in case that clock signal has long transition time, especially on the low frequency operation.

Using the 2.304MHz TTL signal from gap filler tuner, clock recovery module with 10MHz output frequency including holdover function is designed. The measured performance of the clock recovery module shows a stability of less than 0.01ppm, 29 sec stability time, 10 sec holdover time, and maximum -113dBc/Hz@100Hz phase noise.

  • Time synchronization between distributed embedded systems in the Real Time Locating System (RTLS) based on Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA) is one of the most important factors to consider in system design. Clock jitter error between each system causes many difficulties in maintaining such a time synchronization. In this paper, we implemented a system to synchronize clocks between FPGA based distributed embedded systems using the recovery clock of CDR (clock data recovery) used in high speed serial communication to solve the clock jitter error problem. It is experimentally confirmed that the cumulative time error that occurs when the synchronization is not performed through the synchronization logic using the CDR recovery clock can be completely eliminated.

  • We designed asynchronous event logic library with 0.25$\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS technology and interface chip for heterogeneous system with high-speed asynchronous FIFO operating at 1.6㎓. Optimized asynchronous standard cell layouts and Verilog models are designed for top-down design methodology. A method for mitigating a design bottleneck when it comes to tolerate clock skew is described. This communication scheme using clock control circuits, which is used for the free of synchronization failures, is analyzed and implemented. With clock control circuit and FIFO, high-speed communication between synchronous modules operating at different clock frequencies or with asynchronous modules is performed. The core size of implemented high-speed 32bit-interface chip for heterogeneous system is about 1.1mm ${\times}$ 1.1mm.

  • In this paper, we propose parallel Viterbi decoders applied to UWB(Ultra Wide Band). In consideration of power dissipation and ease of design, we design the architecture, using 132MHz clock instead of 528MHz clock in Baseband. Because Deinterleaver writes and reads the transmitted data per 6Ncbps(The number of coded bits per symbol). using the difference between the number of sampling clock per symbol and the number of coded bits per symbol, we reduce performance degradation of parallel Viterbi decoders. In comparison with using 528MHz clock, the result is little difference.

  • A novel clock distribution technique for pipelined-RSFQ logics using variable Bias Currents of JTLs as delay-medium is newly proposed. RSFQ logics consist of several logic gates or blocks connected in a pipeline structure. And each block has variable delay difference. In the structure, this clock distribution method generates a set of clock signals for each logic blocks with suitable corresponding delays. These delays, in the order of few to tens of pS, can be adjusted through controlling bias current of JTL of delay medium. While delays with resistor value and JJ size are fixed at fabrication stage, delay through bias current can be controlled externally, and thus, is heavily investigated for its range as well as correct operation within current margin. Possible ways of a standard delay library with modular structure are sought for further modularizing Pipelined-RSFQ applications. Simulations and verifications are done through WRSpice with Hypres 3-um process parameters.

  • When designing chip, it considers design specification, timing problem, and clock synchronization on place & route (P&R) process. P&R process is complicated because of considering various factors. Chip uses clock tree synthesis (CTS) to reduce clock path delay. The purpose of this study is to examine shallow-CTS algorithm for checking clock tree synthesizable. Using open source Parser-Verilog, register transfer level (RTL) synthesizable Verilog file is parsed and it uses Pre-CTS and Post-CTS process that is included shallow-CTS. Based on longest clock path in the Pre-CTS and Post-CTS stages, the standard deviation before and after buffer insertion is compared and analyzed for the accuracy of CTS. In this paper, It is expected that the cost and time problem could be reduced by providing a pre-clock tree synthesis verification method at the RTL level without confirming the CTS result using the time-consuming licensed EDA tool.

  • The mechanical clock was designed and produced by students as a trial theme of PBL class. The limit of making time is three weeks and main material is limited to paper. Only a basic mechanism drawing is given. As the principle of mechanical clock is not complex and does not need the special knowledge of mechanical engineering, even lower grade student seems to understand enough. This subject can train the skill of knowledge composition, creativity and the problem-solving ability. After execution, the validity and performance as the theme of PBL class was evaluated. As a result, the following findings were obtained. The paper made mechanical clock could be produced in three weeks. And, by additional improvements of the product, the enough strength and stable movement were achieved. Students can learn that many kinds of knowledge through actual experiences of design and making were required in manufacturing the real products. The proposed PBL style class is suitable as an introduction and training subject for lower grade student in department of engineering.

  • Power supply noise is fundamentally caused by large current peaks. Since large current peaks are induced by simultaneous switching of many circuit elements, power supply noise can be minimized by deliberate clock scheduling which utilizes nonzero clock skew. In this paper, nonzero skew clock scheduling is used to avoid the large peak current and consequently reduce power supply noise. While previous approaches require extra characterization efforts to acquire current waveform of a circuit, we approximate it only with existing cell library information to be easily adapted to conventional design flow. A simulated annealing based algorithm is performed, and the peak current values are estimated for feasible clock schedules found by the algorithm. The clock schedule with the minimum peak current is selected for a solution. Experimental results on ISCAS89 benchmark circuits show that the proposed method can effectively reduce the peak current.

  • A low-cost, high-performance 40 Gb/s clock recovery module using a phase-locked loop(PLL) for a 40 Gb/s optical receiver has been designed and implemented. It consists of a clock recovery circuit, a RF mixer and frequency discriminator for phase/frequency detection, a DR-VCO, a phase shifter, and a hold circuit. The recovered 40 GHz clock is synchronized with a stable 10 GHz DR-VCO. The clock stability and jitter characteristics of the implemented PLL-based clock recovery module has shown to significantly improve the performance of the conventional open-loop type clock recovery module with DR filter. The measured peak-to-peak RMS jitter is about 230 fs. When input signal is dropped, the 40 GHz clock is generated continuously by hold circuit. The implemented clock recovery module can be used as a low-cost and high-performance receiver module for 40 Gb/s commercial optical network.
