A Study of Housing Design Guidelines for the Single Household (독신 가구의 주거계획 방향에 관한 연구)

  • This study was conducted to examine housing preferences among single-person households and to propose guidelines for housing design choices for single people. One hundred and sixty responses to the questionnaire developed by this researcher were analyzed utilizing frequencies, percentages, and t-tests. There were significant differences between single households and non-single households in various aspects of housing preferences. Differences were found in the desired type and size of housing, needed amount of space, and the importance of space itself. Single persons wanted to live in a small apartment, about 83.45$m^2$ (25.29 pyung) size. They consider the bathroom and the master bedroom more important than the living room and kitchen. They prefer to have specifically function-oriented rooms such as shower, home office, computer room, exercise room, or leisure space. Single persons consider information-technological facilities within an apartment very important. They would like to adopt automatic and electronic technology in the house, such as optical communication network, automatic air-cleaning system, and internet TV. Housing preferences differ significantly according to socio-demographic variables such as gender and age. I propose in this study a small-sized, information-, high-tech- and leisure-oriented design that corresponds with the actual housing preferences of the single-person households.

An Aquaculture System Concept for Ocean Application (해양양식전진기지 개념설계)

  • An aquaculture system for feeding the caged fishes in the open water is suggested for ocean application. Survival and operation conditions are defined at the conceptual design. Wave and current drag forces are discussed to determine the proper dimension of the aquaculture system and the related mooring system. Second order wave drift force at the survival condition is the dominant force, which be reduced by minimizing the superstructure open to the surface. Automation in feeding, sorting, cleaning is introduced to use the ongoing technology for quality product. The suggested system has advantage compared to onshore culturing, but not to shallow water culturing system. There is room for real application in future by the countries, such as Korea and Japan, which are in short of fish supply and have willingness to venture towards the ocean aquaculture.

  • This paper introduces a simulation study regarding the operation of the Painted Body Storage (PBS) in an automobile factory. In the paint shop of the factory, same colored bodies are grouped together in order to increase the effectiveness of process, for example decrease the loss of cleaning the painting-gun when the color of body changes from one to another. However the production of automobiles in the assembly shop is a typical example of the mixed model assembly production. Therefore PBS locates between the paint shop and the assembly shop for control the input sequence of bodies to the assembly shop, and it enables to meet the smoothing requirement of assembly sequence. There are highly restricted constraints on the assembly sequence in a assembly shop. Those are spacing restriction and smoothing restriction. If such restrictions are violated, conveyor-stop or utility work will be necessary. Thus the major objective of PBS is to control the assembly sequence in a way to meet the two restrictions. In this paper a case study of PBS in an automotive factory is introduced. The storage/retrieval algorithms are suggested and the proposed system is verified using simulation models. Sensitivity analysis for operating factors is also conducted.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to evaluate performances of mobile personal robots. A set of performance measures is proposed and the corresponding evaluation methods are developed. Different from industrial manipulators, personal robots need to be evaluated with its mobility, navigation, task and intelligent performance in environments where human beings exist. The proposed performance measures are composed of measures for mobility including vibration, repeatability, path accuracy and so on, as well as measures for navigation performance including wall following, overcoming doorsill, obstacle avoidance and localization. But task and intelligent behavior performances such as cleaning capability and high-level decision-making are not considered in this paper. To measure the proposed performances through a series of tests, we designed a test environment and developed measurement systems including a 3D Laser tracking system, a vision monitoring system and a vibration measurement system. We measured the proposed performances with a mobile robot to show the result as an example. The developed systems, which are installed at Korea Agency for Technology and Standards, are going to be used for many robot companies in Korea.

Effects of Specimen Preparation Method and Contact Resistance on the Formation of Anodizing Films on Aluminum Alloys (시편의 준비 방법 및 접촉저항이 알루미늄 합금의 아노다이징 피막 형성에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, five different specimen preparation methods were introduced and their advantages and disadvantages were presented. One of them, an epoxy mounting method has advantages of constant exposure area, ease of surface preparation without touching the specimen surface during polishing or cleaning, use of small amount of material and ease of specimen reuse by polishing or etching. However, in order to eliminate unexpected errors resulting from preferable reaction at the specimen/epoxy interface and contact resistance between the specimen and copper conducting line for electrical connection, it is recommended to cover the wall side of the specimen with porous anodic oxide films and to remain the contact resistance lower than 1 ohm. The increased contact resistance between the specimen and Cu conducting line appeared to result in increases of anodizing voltage and solution temperature during anodizing by which thickness and hardness of anodizing film on Al2024 alloy were drastically decreased and color of the films became more brightened.

  • I. Objectives Endodontic success depends on thoroughly cleaned and completely obturated root canal system. Effective cleaning and obturation will be achieved by well shaped canal. Numerous methodologies evaluating the efficacy and safety of canal preparation has been developed and the use of micro-computed tomography(MCT) in endodontic research is one of the latest innovations. This scientific tools could overcome the inherent limitations of other methodologies, and possesses the ability to visualize morphological characteristics in a detailed and accurate manner without destruction of the tooth and offers reproducible data in all three dimensions. The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal master apical file size with less transportation and more efficiency in removing the infected dentin. For this purpose we evaluated the transportation of canal center and change of untouched area after preparation sequentially from #25 file through #40 file with 3 different instruments:Stainless steel(SS) K-type hand instruments(MANI, Japan), ProFile.04 instruments (Dentply Tulsa Dental, USA) and Lightspeed instruments(Lightspeed Technology, San Antonio, USA) using micro-computed tomography.(omitted)

Numerical Analysis of Axial-Flow Cyclone Separator for Subway Station HVAC System Pre-Filter

  • In the Korean subway station, three types of pre-filters, which include auto filter, electrostatic precipitator (ESP) and auto cleaning demister, are widely used. However, these devices have some problems such as the difficulty of maintenance and high operating cost. In this study, axial-flow cyclone separator was employed as a pre-filter inside a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system. 3-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis was performed on a single unit axial-flow cyclone and coupled unit axial-flow cyclone. Calculated and measured pressure drop of the designed axial-flow cyclone were found be comparable to other types of pre-filters and the observed cut-off diameter was less than 10 micron. Considering lower operating and maintenance cost, axial-flow cyclone was proved to be a better solution as a pre-filter.

Effect of Citric Acid in Cu Chemical Mechanical Planarization Slurry on Frictional Characteristics and Step Height Reduction of Cu Pattern

  • Copper chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) has become a key process in integrated circuit (IC) technology. The results of copper CMP depend not only on the mechanical abrasion, but also on the slurry chemistry. The slurry used for Cu CMP is known to have greater chemical reactivity than mechanical material removal. The Cu CMP slurry is composed of abrasive particles, an oxidizing agent, a complexing agent, and a corrosion inhibitor. Citric acid can be used as the complexing agent in Cu CMP slurries, and is widely used for post-CMP cleaning. Although many studies have investigated the effect of citric acid on Cu CMP, no studies have yet been conducted on the interfacial friction characteristics and step height reduction in CMP patterns. In this study, the effect of citric acid on the friction characteristics and step height reduction in a copper wafer with varying pattern densities during CMP are investigated. The prepared slurry consists of citric acid ($C_6H_8O_7$), hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$), and colloidal silica. The friction force is found to depend on the concentration of citric acid in the copper CMP slurry. The step heights of the patterns decrease rapidly with decreasing citric acid concentration in the copper CMP slurry. The step height of the copper pattern decreases more slowly in high-density regions than in low-density regions.

Surface Modification of Functional Titanium Oxide to Improve Corrosion Resistance (내식성 향상을 위한 기능성 타이타늄 표면 개질)

  • Titanium is applied in various industries due to its valuable properties and abundant reserves. Generally, if a highly uniform oxide structure and a high-density oxide film is formed on the surface through anodization treatment, the utility value such as color appearance and corrosion inhibition efficiency is further increased. The objective of this study was to determine improvement of water-repellent property by controlling titanium oxide parameters such as pore size and inter-pore distance to improve corrosion resistance. Oxide film structures of different shapes were prepared by controlling the anodization processing time and voltage. These oxide structures were then analyzed using a Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FE-SEM). Afterwards, a Self-Assembled Monolayer (SAM) coating was performed for the oxide structure. The contact angle was measured to determine the relationship between the shape of the oxide film and the water-repellency. The smaller the solid fraction of the surface, the higher the water-repellent effect. The surface with excellent hydrophobic properties showed improved corrosion resistance. Such water-repellent surface has various applications. It is not only useful for corrosion prevention, but also useful for self-cleaning. In addition, a hydrophobic titanium may open up a new world of biomaterials to remove bacteria from the surface.

Wettability of Lubricant-Impregnated Electroplated Zinc Surface with Nanostructure (윤활유가 침지된 나노구조 전기아연도금층의 젖음성)

  • Electrodeposited zinc layer is widely used as a sacrificial anode for a corrosion protection of steel. In this study, we modified the surface of electrodeposited zinc to have a hydrophobicity, which shows various advanced functionalities, such as anti-corrosion, anti-biofouling, anti-icing and self-cleaning, due to its repellency to liquids. Superhydrophobicity was realized on electrodeposited zinc layer with a hydrothermal treatment, creating nanostructures on the surface, and following Teflon coating. The superhydrophobic surface shows a great repellency to water with high surface tension, while liquid droplets with low surface tension easily adhered on the superhydrophobic surface. However, immiscible lubricant-impregnated superhydrophobic surface shows a great repellency to various liquids, regardless of their surface tension. Therefore, it is expected that the lubricant-impregnated surface can be an alternative of superhydrophobic surface, which have a drawback for some liquids with a low surface tension.
