A Comparative Study on Curriculum Contents and Teaching Methods Based on the Syllabi of Library and Information Science in Korea and Foreign Universities (국내외 문헌정보학 주요교과목 강의계획서분석을 통한 수업내용 및 방법 비교 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze curriculum contents, teaching methods and evaluation methods for the core courses in Library & Information Science. It focuses on syllabi both of Korean and foreign universities, and compares them to figure out their own characteristics and differences. The study aims to contribute to the advancements of domestic Library & Information Science in regards to their curriculum contents and methods. To this end, we collected and analyzed the syllabi of Information Organization, Information & Reference Services, Information Retrieval and Management of Libraries, which are used in the foreign LIS departments. As results, we found some differences between curriculum contents, teaching methods and evaluation methods used by Korean and foreign universities. In teaching methods, especially, the classes in Korean universities used the forms of lecture, presents, examination, while classes in foreign universities used more various methods, such as workshop, project, developing system, simulation, case study, interviews with expert.

Clinical Practice Satisfaction in the Department of Emergency Medical Service Students (응급구조과 학생의 임상실습 만족도)

  • This study analysed Emergency Medical Technology(EMT) students' satisfaction in clinical practice. It was discovered that satisfaction was a means of 3.61(${\pm}0.70$) and the factor which had a significant influence on satisfaction was desired job area (F=3.98, p=0.004). The factors which were significant to satisfaction were practice beginning grade(t=0.43, p=0.038), period of practice(F=2.82, p=0.025), and departments(F=11.81, p=0.000) In respect to significant positive correlations between practice procedures and satisfaction, observation frequency (r=0.221, p=0.000) and practice frequency(r=0.170, p=0.002) had significantly positive correlations with satisfaction. Based on the results above, it is suggested that to enhance EMT students' satisfaction in clinical practice, students should have clear points of view on their job and practice beginning grade and practice period should be properly considered according to characteristics of students. Also, effective practice programs which carefully consider peculiarity of Emergency Medical Technology should be developed further.

  • Workflow is defined as the automation of a business process, and consists of interrelated workflow tasks. Because many modem business processes nay involve activities that are geographically distributed between different departments or organizations, workflow inherently has the characteristics of distribution. In distributed workflow systems, each workflow task performs its assigned role by utilizing information resources placed at some hosts, and then transmits workflow execution control to the next tasks in a workflow definition. Hence, it is very important to appropriately allocate workflow tasks to hosts for high performance workflow processing. In this paper, we propose a multilevel workflow graph partitioning scheme for efficient placement of workflow tasks. This method can improve the performance of workflow processing by minimizing the remote communication costs occurred during workflow execution.

A Study on the Characteristic Changing of the Library and Information Science Curriculum (문헌정보학 교과과정의 특징적 변화에 관한 연구)

  • This research was done with the intent of showing the changes in the Library and Information Science(LIS) curriculum from 1991 until 2014, across the 40 Korean LIS departments. Using the department and faculty system, which I expected were the biggest change factors, I took these as the division points and analyzed the published data regarding curriculum offerings in units of 6-7 years. Fields with special characteristics were analyzed in more depth for changes. The results indicated several things. First, in the bibliography field the number of individuals had been reduced from 69 to 51 in 2014. Second, the subjects in records management had increased from 33 in 2005 to 57 in 2014. Third, in the linguistics field the decrease was from 63 in 1997 to 19 in 2014. Fourth, as a result of analyzing individuals that had been classified into the general LIS field, it was found that subjects related to the outline of the LIS, field studies, publication and copyrights, and career guidance were increasing. At the same time, the subjects related to the history of the library were decreasing.

Improvement Measures for Construction Education System in Specialized High School (특성화 고등학교의 건설교육 및 훈련체계 개선방안)

  • The construction industry is heavily dependent on labor force as automation to building constructions is difficult due to its characteristics such on-site production, custom manufacturing production. Thus, while securing and fostering high-quality functional manpower for stable construction work are significant, the construction workforce has been persistently lacking compared to demand. Young workers are reluctant to enter the construction industry due to high labor intensity, unstable employment structure, and uncertainty for the future. The employment rate for new jobs in the construction industry is half as high as in others. Currently, the departments related to construction are organized in specialized high school to conduct training for young workers. The graduates have a low ratio of employment rate to the construction industry and functional capacities fallen short of expectations. In this study, the education and training conditions of specialized high schools were analyzed to derive problems and key improvements of the education system were drawn. As an improvement for the analysis results, it provides solutions such as giving advantages of previous education experience, expand industry-academic cooperation with businesses, and expand links with external educational institutions.

A Study on Acquisition Processes in Public Libraries (공공도서관 도서구입 실태에 관한 조사연구)

  • This paper strives to examine the acquisition process in public libraries. It specifically attempts to survey the budget allocation, duties and organizational structures of acquisition departments in public libraries, and the overall process of book selection and acquisition. Data was drawn from a survey of 545 public libraries in the country. Specific statistics were gathered through literature and interviews to be analyzed, even though they were not very detailed in nature. In looking at the actual acquisition process, a thorough comparison on the backgrounds, outlines and characteristics of current projects and an analysis on the specifics of each project was also conducted.

Convergence Study on Ability and Accuracy in Drug Dose Calculations of Nursing Students (간호학생의 약물용량계산능력과 정확도에 관한 융합적 연구)

  • This study is to find the weaknesses in drug dose calculations of nursing students by analyzing their general characteristics, confidence(C), performances in classes(PC) and exam sheets of drug dose calculations. The data were analyzed using SPSS 19.0. There was no significant difference between male and female students in simple calculation ability(SCA), but male students' mean scores were higher in applied calculation ability(ACA) and accuracy on calculation(AC). There were no significant differences in calculation abilities according to high school departments. And students were weak in questions which are needed ACA. The explanation rate of C on PC and PC on AC were 4.2% and 3.2% respectively, so there were weak positive effects from C to PC, and PC to AC. This study suggests that there is a need to develop and implement an intervention program according to students' abilities to increase AC, C, and PC by studying math on an ongoing basis. This study needs to be cautious in generalizing, because the data set was limited to nursing students from one university.

A Study on Preservation Metadata Elements for Research Information (연구정보를 위한 보존 메타데이터 요소 개발에 관한 연구: 경제·인문사회연구회 연구관리시스템을 중심으로)

  • This study aimed at developing preservation metadata elements and its applications for research information which is considered as a valuable digital resource these days. Specifically, the developed preservation metadata intends to provide a basis for the research information of the government-funded research institutes in economic and social science fields which are major knowledge producers of national policy. To ensure the interoperability of the research information across various departments and organizations, this study compared the elements from the CERIF(European Standard) and those from the PREMIS Data Dictionary which is based on OAIS reference model (ISO 14721). Based on this comparative analysis, this study developed complementary preservation metadata elements based on the two standards' characteristics. Consequently, this study suggested a new preservation metadata elements and its applications that are compatible between the two systems and can be implemented in practice.

Clinical Characteristics of Intentional Carbon Monoxide Poisoning (의도성 여부를 중심으로 한 일산화탄소 중독환자의 임상적 특성)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the changes in the characteristics of patients with carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning, as well as the distinctive differences in intentionally exposed patients. Methods: The medical records of CO poisoning patients, who visited nine emergency departments between January 2010 and December 2011, were reviewed retrospectively. The clinical information including age, gender, hospitalization, type of discharge, cause and location of exposure, site of onset, concentration of initial blood carboxyhemoglobin (COHb), methods of treatment and presence of neurological complications was examined. The subjects were divided into an intentional and non-intentional group and the differences between them was compared. Results: A total 209 subjects were recruited. The median age was 38 years (29~49.5 years). They frequently complained of nausea and vomiting, and the most common exposures occurred in winter, normally in the home. The cause of exposure was usually fire, followed by incomplete combustion of fuels. The median initial blood COHb was 13.15%. The proportion of intentionally exposed patients was 21%. They were significantly younger, more frequently discharged against medical advice, and showed a higher initial blood COHb level (22.85%) than the non-intentional group. Conclusion: This study suggests that those with intentional CO poisoning are normally discharged against medical advice even when they have a higher initial COHb level. An adequate explanation of the delayed neurologic sequelae and short term follow-up observation is recommended for those patients with intentional exposure.

A Study on the knowledge and attitude of AIDS In college students (일 대학 학생들의 AIDS에 대한 지식, 태도의 관한 연구)

  • Purpose : This study is a descriptive correlation study to offer the basic materials for developing the preventive program of continuously increasing AIDS in the young people by examining the knowledge and attitude of AIDS in college students. Methods : The period of data collection was from May 1 to 15, 2009, 300 freshman, sophomore and junior students who understood the purpose of the research and agreed to participate in the questionnaire were randomly sampled, structured questionnaire was distributed to them and their responses were collected. Instruments used for this study included those used by Kim and Lee and revised and complemented by this researcher to measure the knowledge of AIDS and those by Yun and Lee revised and complemented by the researcher to measure the attitude of AIDS. For data analysis, it measured technical statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficient using SPSS/PC 12.0. Results : The results of this study are summarized as follows. 1. The whole knowledge of AIDS the subjects had scored 58.9 and their average attitude scored $3.78(1{\pm}25)$. 2. In the degree of knowledge of AIDS depending on general characteristics and health-related characteristics of the subjects, it was found that the students at the department of emergency medical showed higher knowledge(t=3.638, p=.001) and positive attitude of AIDS(t=3.330, p=.001) compared to students at other majors. 3. In the degree of knowledge of AIDS depending on AIDS-related education, subjects who had experienced AIDS education(t=1.973, p=.050), those with the experience of theory education(F=4.057, p=.008), those who felt the necessity of AIDS education(t=4.588, p=.000), and those who were willing to take part in AIDS education(t=2.898, p=.004) showed higher know1edge of AIDS. In the attitude of AIDS, subjects with theory-oriented AIDS education(F=3.012, p=.032), those who felt the necessity of AIDS education(t=2.445, p=.015), and those who were willing to take part in AIDS education(t=2.379, p=.018) showed positive attitude of AIDS education. 4. As the knowledge of AIDS the subjects was higher(r=.329, p=.000), they showed more positive attitude of AIDS and it meant that there was positive correlations. Conclusion : Consequently, systematic, concrete and continuous education of AIDS suitable to the requirements of college students is needed to induce changes of their knowledge and attitude of AIDS and for this, AIDS education program which can be used properly by the developmental stages of college students who belong to late adolescence should be developed in the field of school and if possible, curriculum of sex education including AIDS education should be established in all departments of college.
