The Effects of Functional Group Cooking Activities on the Interpersonal Relationships and Depression of Stroke Patients: A Randomized Controlled Trial (기능적 그룹 요리활동이 뇌졸중 환자의 우울 및 대인관계에 미치는 영향: 무작위 배정 실험)

  • PURPOSE: This study examined the impact of functional group cooking activities on the depression and interpersonal relationships of stroke patients with psychological impairments. METHODS: Ten stroke patients were divided into an experimental group and a control group and participated in this study from October 2015 to January 2016. The experimental group and control group each comprised five stroke patients. Traditional occupational therapy was given to the control group and the experimental group undertook the cooking activity. Depression changes were measured using the Beck depression inventory (BDI), and the interpersonal relationships were evaluated using the relationship change scale. RESULTS: The findings indicate that, first, there was a significant difference in the depression changes in both groups before and after the intervention. Second, after the intervention, the interpersonal relationships of the experimental group showed a higher mean change value and were significantly higher than the control (experimental: 22.4, control: 4, p < .05). In contrast, there was no change in the depression status between the two groups. CONCLUSION: Functional group cooking activities appear to be more effective in improving interpersonal relationships than traditional occupational therapy. However, to establish that functional group cooking activities are linked to improvements in the depression status and interpersonal relationships of the participants, further studies would be needed with more extensive group activities and larger sample sizes.

Small Group Filial Therapy Effectiveness on Improving Young Children's Interpersonal Relationships (부모-자녀 놀이치료를 통한 부적응 유아의 대인관계 증진 사례 연구)

  • The study examined whether small group filial therapy for maladjusted young children and their mothers would improve children's interpersonal relationships. Two mother-child pairs participated in the program consisting 12 group parent education sessions by a therapist and 6 sessions of supervised play therapy. All 18 sessions ran 85-90 minutes once a week. Results showed positive changes on initiated interactions, co-play, emotional closeness and manifest joy in mother-child play interactions. Scores of playfulness rated by two trained observers during weekly group play time for the children showed improvement in terms of physical, social, and cognitive spontaneity, manifest joy and humor. Quality of children's interpersonal relationships in routine life of home and preschool was enhanced according to reports of mothers and preschool teachers.

Effects of Assertiveness Training on Assertiveness Behavior, Problem Solving Ability, and Interpersonal Relationships of Nursing College Students (주장훈련이 간호학생의 주장행동, 문제해결 및 대인관계에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of assertiveness training on assertiveness behavior, problem solving ability, and interpersonal relationships of nursing college students. Methods: A nonequivalent pre- and post-test experimental design was used. This study included 15 subjects in the experimental group, and 15 subjects in the control group, who were sophomore nursing students recruited from Gachon Nursing School located in Inchon City. The experimental group received 8 series of a ready planned and reorganized assertiveness training course, while the control group did not receive any training. The 120 minute training session was held on a weekly basis. The Maan-Whitney U Test was done to identify the changes in scores of assertiveness behavior, problem solving ability, and interpersonal relationships between the experimental and the control groups, after the assertiveness training. The data were collected before and after each part of the assertiveness training. The data collection period was from May 7 to July 10, 2001. Results: 1) The assertiveness behavior scores of the nursing students who participated in the assertiveness training were higher than those of the nursing students who did not participate in the assertiveness training. 2) The self problem solving evaluation scores of the nursing students who received assertiveness training were higher than those of the nursing students who did not receive the training. 3) The interpersonal relationship scores of the nursing students who participated in the assertiveness training were higher than those of the nursing students who did not participate in the assertiveness training. Conclusion: The study results showed that the assertiveness training was effective in promoting assertiveness behavior, problem solving ability, and changes in interpersonal relationships in nursing college students. It is suggested that well designed strategies are needed in the further studies in order to expand and apply the assertiveness training to other nursing student and nurse cohorts.

Effects of Gender and Interpersonal Factors on Early Adolescents' Trajectories of Mobile Phone Use With Reference to its Purposes (초기 청소년의 성별 및 대인관계 요인이 휴대전화 용도별 이용빈도의 변화에 미치는 영향)

  • Objective: This study aimed to investigate the trajectories of mobile phone use with reference to its purposes, and to examine the effects of gender and interpersonal factors on the same in early adolescents. Methods: Latent growth modeling was used with a sample of 2,378 early adolescents from Grade 4 to 8. Data from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey conducted by the National Youth Policy Institute were used. Results: In boys and girls, overtime, the level of mobile phone use for communicating with family decreased, while that for communicating with friends increased. Level of mobile phone use for entertainment increased across time in boys; however, in girls, it increased from Grade 4 to 6 and decreased thereafter, until Grade 8. Gender was associated with the changes of mobile phone use according to the purpose of the same. Positive parenting, negative parenting, relationships with peers, and relationships with teachers predicted changes in mobile phone use for communicating with friends. Conclusion: These findings suggest that the processes involved in the trajectories of mobile phone use in early adolescence operate differently based on the purposes of the same. Additionally, the present results show that interpersonal factors are highly associated with mobile phone use for communicating with friends.

The Changes of Self-esteem and Leadership during Two Years in Nursing Students (간호대학생의 학년 진급에 따른 자아존중감과 리더십의 변화)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the changes of self-esteem and leadership scores in nursing students during two years. Method: The subjects were 233 nursing students in their first year in 2007, and 257 in their third year in 2009. Data were collected 2 times for the same subjects, in 2007 and 2009 respectively, with the same structured questionnaires. Result: Satisfaction for major and interpersonal relationships of nursing students was significantly increased in the third year over the first year. Self-esteem and leadership scores were significantly increased in the third year over the first year (t=5.48, p<.001, t=5.63, p<.001). Self-esteem and leadership scores increased significantly according to satisfaction degree, interpersonal relationship and year. Self-esteem was positively related to leadership (r=.50, p<.001). Conclusion: The result of this study may show the increase in self-esteem and leadership of nursing students relevant with their year of nursing. This finding suggests the importance of satisfaction and interpersonal relationships to increase self-esteem and leadership.

Interpersonal support, Tension in life changes & Life satisfaction in Urban Housewives (도시주부의 대인적 지지, 생활긴장감 및 만족도)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate interpersonal support, tension in lifechanges & satisfaction. The selected sample is composed of 387 housewives in ChongJoo city. SAS pc program was used for the statistical analysis of the data. Data was analyzed by frequency, F-test, percentage, mean, Duncan's Multiple Range Test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, Regression Analysis. Major findings as follows: 1)At wedding & funeral ceremony, kin networks of her parents & parents-in law side were variables to have influence on tension in life changes. And the number of social organization participated were a variable to have influence on the satisfaction. The age of couple, education of couple, duration of marriage, income, family lifecycle, the number of children, pattern of family were variables to influence tension in life changes, but were not variables to influence on the satisfaction. 2) At usual or wedding & funeral ceremony, kin networks of her parents side were variables to influence on instrumental & companionship support. And the number of friends was a variable to influence on companionship & informational support. The number of neighbors was a variable to influence on instrumental, companionship & informational support. The number of social organization participated was a variable to influence on companionship & emotional support. The age of couple, education of couple,income, duration of marriage, family life cycle, number of children, family size, family type were variables to influence on interpersonal support. 3)The relationship between tension and satisfaction in life changes was negative, and between instrumental support and satisfaction was negative also. But between companionship support and satisfaction was positive relationship and between tension of personal &social life and instrumental support was positive relationship. The relationship between tension of marriage life and companionship support was negative and between tension of family life and information support was negative relationships. The received companionship support was lower tension in life changes than not received it. But the received instrumental support was higher tension of personal & social life. The received companionship & informational support was higher satisfaction than not received them. But the received instrumental support was lower satisfaction than not received it. 4) Instrumental & companionship support, at usual kin network of her parents in taw side, at wedding & funeral ceremony kin network of her parents side,were variables to influence on tension in life changes.   • This study aimed to analyze the class effect of subjects to which Problem-Based Learning is applied to college students majoring in aviation service at university in Chungcheong. And we derive implications for continuously operating Problem-Based Learning classes. For the study, <Service Manners and Practice>, <Theory of Air Reservation Operation & Practice>, and <Introduction to In-flight Food & Beverage> were selected among the courses opened in the first semester of 2022. This study analyzes changes in communication competence, interpersonal skills, self-directed learning skills, higher-order thinking skills, information technology application skills, and problem-solving skills reflecting the core competencies of the universities to which the study students belonged. First, we analyzed the changes in communication competence, interpersonal skills, self-directed learning skills, higher-order thinking skills, information technology application skills, and problem-solving skills before and after classes by reflecting on the core competencies of the universities to which the study students belonged. As a result, all item except for interpersonal skills were improved. In addition, a qualitative analysis was conducted on the degree of learning improvement based on the contents of the reflection journal written during learning precess. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that it is effective for learning abilities such as communication, interpersonal relationships, self-directed learning skills, utilization of information, and problem-solving.

The Changes in the Work Patterns of Nurses after Implementation of an Information System in Tertiary Hospitals in Seoul (서울시 3차 의료기관의 병원정보시스템 사용에 따른 간호사의 업무내용변화)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze changes in the work patterns of nurses working in tertiary hospitals in Seoul, Korea Method: Structured self-administered questionnaires were sent to the nursing department of each hospital, and distributed to nurses. The questionnaires were designed to identity changes in work patterns, frequency of contact inside & between departments, and interpersonal relationship inside & between departments. And also variables for analysis included the followings ; acknowledgement of convenience, information applicability, willingness to participate in, and job satisfaction after implementation of a Hospital Information System. A total of 249 nurses from 13 hospitals replied. Results: Changes in direct nursing time showed the most improvement and the frequency of contact was decreased while interpersonal relationships among coworkers was improved. As most nurses expressed a positive opinion of the HIS including its convenience, and information applicability, their willingness to participate in it and job satisfaction, it can be concluded that the implementation of the HIS has resulted in positive influences in the work patterns of clinical nurses.

  • This study is a case study using the Enneagram counseling technique for adult women who are having difficulties in interpersonal relationships. As a result of the analysis, the client learned how to express emotions and thoughts without suppressing the interpersonal difficulties they are currently experiencing at work. Focusing on the current task, he looked at what he was obsessed with in the most difficult and difficult situation, and confirmed that he realized that he had become obsessed with the interaction of distorted emotions and thoughts of the ego. During the counseling process, the client looked back on herself and realized a new communication method, understood her personality change, social interaction and attitude change in order to restore confidence, and also showed changes in relationship formation with co-workers.

The Impact of Movement Education Programs on the Empathy Ability of Disabled Children

  • The purpose of this paper is to understand and express emotions and experiences from the perspective of others through empathy, which is crucial for maintaining social relationships. The smooth formation of interpersonal relationships through the physical activity of children with disabilities holds significant meaning. Children with disabilities often lack opportunities for interaction with their peers compared to typical children, and the absence of effective communication methods poses difficulties in forming relationships. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effects of a movement education program on enhancing empathy in children with disabilities. The program was implemented for 12 weeks from April to June 2023, involving five children with disabilities. The movement education program comprised 12 topics, encompassing physical, emotional, and cognitive domains. Empathy was measured in two areas: cognitive empathy and emotional empathy. The results indicated improvement in both cognitive and emotional empathy after the program compared to the pre-assessment. The rate of progress varied depending on the type and severity of the disability, but overall, positive changes in the development of empathy were observed. Through this research, it is hoped that movement programs can be practically utilized as a valuable resource.
