  • Based on the structural analysis of cantilever and the piezoelectric effect, we propose a new design of piezoelectric cantilever to harvest maximum vibration energy. Geometric parameters of piezoelectric cantilever are optimized according to two different types of cantilever structure. The main factors that affect the harvesting performance of the cantilever was the shape of the cantilever and the load at the free end. The amount of charge is affected by piezoelectric constant and mechanical strain of the cantilever.

  • In this paper, we studied about the effects of the rotating cantilever pipe conveying fluid with a moving mass. The influences of a rotating angular velocity, the velocity of fluid flow and moving mass on the dynamic behavior of a cantilever pipe have been studied by the numerical method. The equation of motion is derived by using the Lagrange's equation. The cantilever pipe is modeled by the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. When the velocity of a moving mass is constant, the lateral tip-displacement of a cantilever pipe is proportional to the moving mass and the angular velocity. In the steady state, the lateral tip-displacement of a cantilever pipe is more sensitive to the velocity of fluid than the angular velocity, and the axial deflection of a cantilever pipe is more sensitive to the effect of a angular velocity. Totally, as the moving mass is increased, the frequency of a cantilever pipe is decreased in steady state.

  • A conveying fluid cantilever pipe subjected to a uniformly distributed tangential follower force and three moving masses upon it constitute this vibrational system. The influences of the velocities of moving masses, the distance between two moving masses, and the uniformly distributed tangential follower force have been studied on the dynamic behavior of a cantilever pipe system by numerical method. The uniformly distributed tangential follower force is considered within its critical value of a cantilever pipe without moving masses, and three constant velocities and three constant distances between two moving masses are also chosen. When the moving masses exist on pipe, as the velocity of the moving mass and the distributed tangential follower force Increases. the deflection of cantilever pipe conveying fluid is decreased, respectively Increasing of the velocity of fluid flow makes the amplitude of a cantilever pipe conveying fluid decrease. After the moving mass passed upon the pipe, the tip- displacement of a pipe is influenced by the coupling effect between interval and velocity of moving mass and the potential energy change of a cantilever pipe. Increasing of the moving mass make the frequency of the cantilever pipe conveying fluid decrease.

  • State ment of Problems. Although some clinicians report long-term success with fixed partial denture (FPD) that contain cantilever pontic, the use of cantilever FPDs may be hazardous because of unfavorable leverages during mastication. Purpose of Study. This study aims to compare the stress induced in the periodontium with normal and reduced bone support, and to analyze the stress distribution patterns of anterior cantilevered FPDs using the finite element method. Results. Cantilever bridge with a reduced bone level generated the highest peak stresses in the periodontium. In the models of reduced bone support, a cantilever bridge exhibited the great-est mobility and a 3-unit fixed restorations induced the smallest mobility of canine. The highest peak stress level of a 3-unit bridge in the periodontium is similar to the unrestored situation. But stress distribution in the bone is modified. Conclusion. In reduced bone support, a cantilever bridge exhibited the greatest mobility and stress.

  • In this paper, we studied about the dynamic behavior of a cracked rotating cantilever beam. The influences of a rotating angular velocity, the crack depth and the crack position on the dynamic behavior of a cracked cantilever beam have been studied by the numerical method. The cracked cantilever beam is modeled by the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. The crack is assumed to be in the first mode of fracture and to be always opened during the vibrations. The lateral tip displacement and the axial tip deflection of a rotating cantilever beam is more sensitive to the rotating angular velocity than the depth and position of crack. Totally, as the crack depth is increased, the natural frequency of a rotating cantilever beam is decreased in the first and second mode of vibration.

  • A vibration analysis for a rotating cantilever beam with the tapered cross section is presented in this study. The stiffness changes due to the stretching caused by centrifugal inertia forces when a tapered cantilever beam rotates about the axis perpendicular to its longitudinal axis. When the cross section of cantilever beam are assumed to decrease constantly, the mass and stiffness also change according to the variation of the thickness and width ratio of a tapered cantilever beam. Such phenomena result in variations of natural frequencies and mode shapes. Therefore it is important to the equations of motion in order to be obtained accurate predictions of these variations. The equations of motion of a rotating tapered cantilever beam are derived by using hybrid deformation variable modeling method and numerical results are obtained along with the angular velocity and the thickness and width ratio.

  • In this paper the vibration system is composed of a rotating cantilever pipe conveying fluid. The equation of motion is derived by using the Lagrange's equation. Generally, the system of pipe conveying fluid becomes unstable by flutter. Therefore, the influence of the rotating angular velocity, mass ratio and the velocity of fluid flow on the stability of a cantilever pipe by the numerical method are studied. The influence of mass ratio, the velocity of fluid, the angular velocity of a cantilever pipe and the coupling of these factors on the stability of a cantilever pipe are analytically clarified. The critical fluid velocity ($u_{cr}$) is proportional to the angular velocity of the cantilever pipe. In this paper Flutter(instability) is always occurred in the second mode of the system.

  • In cantilever type piezoelectric energy harvester, the amount of power generation decreases rapidly when outside a certain frequency. The thickness and weight of the cantilever metal plate were modified to develop cantilevers that could produce high power over a wide frequency range. The thicker the cantilever, the higher the power in the higher frequency range. As the weight of the mass increased, the cantilever tended to generate higher power, and the frequency band decreased. A 0.6 mm metal plate cantilever that had a mass of 3.3 g generated power that exceeded 3 mW within the 91-102 Hz range, with average and output values of 9.484 mW and 20.748 mW, respectively, at 99 Hz.

  • The nanoscale sensing and manipulation have become a challenging issue in micro/nano-robotic applications. In particular, a feedback sensor-based manipulation is necessary for realizing an efficient and reliable handling of particles under uncertain environment in a micro/nano scale. This paper presents a piezoresistive MEMS cantilever for nanoscale force measurement in micro robotics. A piezoresistive MEMS cantilever enables sensing of gripping and contact forces in nanonewton resolution by measuring changes in the stress-induced electrical resistances. The calibration of a piezoresistive MEMS cantilever is experimentally carried out. In addition, as part of the work on nanomanipulation with a piezoresistive MEMS cantilever, the analysis on the interaction forces between a tip and a material, and the associated manipulation strategies are investigated. Experiments and simulations show that a piezoresistive MEMS cantilever integrated into a micro robotic system can be effectively used in nanoscale force measurements and a sensor-based manipulation.
