Immobilization of Laccase on $SiO_2$ Nanocarriers Improves Its Stability and Reusability

  • Laccases have a broad range of industrial applications. In this study, we immobilized laccase on $SiO_2$ nanoparticles to overcome problems associated with stability and reusability of the free enzyme. Among different reagents used to functionally activate the nanoparticles, glutaraldehyde was found to be the most effective for immobilization. Optimization of the immobilization pH, temperature, enzyme loading, and incubation period led to a maximum immobilization yield of 75.8% and an immobilization efficiency of 92.9%. The optimum pH and temperature for immobilized laccase were 3.5 and $45^{\circ}C$, respectively, which differed from the values of pH 3.0 and $40^{\circ}C$ obtained for the free enzyme. Immobilized laccase retained high residual activities over a broad range of pH and temperature. The kinetic parameter $V_{max}$ was slightly reduced from 1,890 to 1,630 ${\mu}mol/min/mg$ protein, and $K_m$ was increased from 29.3 to 45.6. The thermal stability of immobilized laccase was significantly higher than that of the free enzyme, with a half-life 11- and 18-fold higher at temperatures of $50^{\circ}C$ and $60^{\circ}C$, respectively. In addition, residual activity was 82.6% after 10 cycles of use. Thus, laccase immobilized on $SiO_2$ nanoparticles functionally activated with glutaraldehyde has broad pH and temperature ranges, thermostability, and high reusability compared with the free enzyme. It constitutes a notably efficient system for biotechnological applications.

Developing a Measurement Tool for Student Satisfaction in Higher Education (대학교육 학생만족도 측정도구 개발 연구)

  • This study identified essential areas of student satisfaction by presenting questions concerning each educational area. The measurement tool of this study was developed based on a literature review, and its validity and reliability were verified through qualitative research and exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. To measure student satisfaction in university, we developed a tool comprising seven areas: curriculum and instruction; student advising, educational environment, student support, campus life, university image, and administrative services. A total of 54 questions were prepared, and 7 factors were derived. Cronbach's alpha was 0.970 for all questions and ranged from 0.70 to 0.93 for each factor. The results of the confirmatory factor analysis were GFI 0.830, CFI 0.916, TLI 0.910, RMR 0.047, and RMSEA 0.047, which confirmed the suitability of the research model. Moreover, the convergent validity showed that the questions in this tool consistently described the component areas. Therefore, the research tools developed in this study were found to be suitable for measuring student satisfaction.

Analysis of Published Papers and their Keywords in the Korean Journal of Women Health Nursing (2003-2006) (여성건강간호학회지의 최근 3년간의 논문분석(2004-2006년))

  • Purpose: This research was aimed to explore the major subjects and research theme and to classify characteristics of the key words in recent Korean Journal of Women Health Nursing. Methods: With survey design, whole 103 published papers during 2003-2006 were analyzed with structured analysis form; research subjects, research methodology, data analysis, and key words of the published papers were classified and extracted. Various theme was founded and classified to 9 domains. Results: Most of the research subjects were women. Eighty-eight percent of papers conducted quantitative research; 83% chose convenience sampling and 69% used survey design, while experimental design was 29%. Key words were categorized 9 domains: demographic, health related concept, health behavior(intervention), sex-related, life event, disease, et al. Among 9 domains, health related concept, especially psycho-social topics such as depression, anxiety, stress were mostly studied and then physiologic topics such as labor pain, fatigue, and menstrual symptoms. Conclusion: Most of the subjects were women and the most common domain studied was health related concepts in Korean Journal of Women Health Nursing. And key words and topics were on women's health issues. We can conclude that Korean Journal of Women Health Nursing has published by her own philosophy.

  • Recently, Interest in power the quality was increased because of increasing the use of sensitive load equipment into an electrical disturbance such as computer, Electricity, Electronics, Telecommunications and semiconductor device. In addition, To enhance power quality, the instantaneous voltage drop occurred in precision load equipment is a need for proper compensation. In order to solve the problem, The developed dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) using an electric double layer capacitor (EDLC) has been applied. In this paper, We will do study to apply hybrid capacitors that have high energy density to the same size compared to the EDLC to DVR. Also, As a emergency luminaires of emergency power supply that we can support more than 10 years of life was confirmed the applicability of hybrid capacitor.

Correlation of Stress-coping, Humor Sense, and Adaptation to College of Baccalaureate Nursing Students (간호대학생의 스트레스대처, 유머감각과 대학생활적응의 관계)

  • This study aimed to identify the correlation of stress-coping, humor sense, and adaptation to college of nursing students. Three hundred thirty eight subjects completed a structured questionnaire in June 2012. Data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. The mean scores were as follows; stress-coping 43.33, humor sense 72.18, and adaptation to college 68.02. It meant beyond the intermediate level. Significant differences were found between adaptation to college scores and general characteristics such as gender, academic year, family type, economic status, campus life satisfaction, relation with faculties, grade, and the relationship with the opposite gender. There was significant but weak correlation of stress-coping, humor sense, and adaptation to college. These results suggest that it is necessary to develop individualized education programs considering students' characteristics. Additionally, university adjustment related factors should be studied.

  • In this study, we examined the satisfaction level of J university's compulsory liberal arts subject with quantitative research. The results quantitative research are as follows. First, men are more interested in creative thinking, college life guidance and career path design than girls. Second, the level of satisfaction with the required liberal arts subject by grade was found to be without a statistical significant difference. Third, the satisfaction level of each line of learning was shown in the order of natural engineering, health and welfare, physical fitness, and humanities. The satisfaction level of the lines of learning was found to vary. Fourth, The satisfaction level of each campus was found to vary. The results of this study could be used as basic data to improve the college liberal arts curriculum, especially the compulsory liberal arts curriculum.   • Today, mobile devices are becoming essential for everyday life, and integration of mobile computing, situation recognition and intellectual service accelerates mobile interaction. Surrounding intelligence detection technology is extremely important. These technologies can automatically acquire and recognize surrounding information and situations. Situation recognition can realize wide-range mobile recognition for intellectual services of users' diverse activities, by distinguishing many surrounding devices and recognizing their situations. Thus, this paper suggests application for students' mobile authentication such as college campus attendance authentication, and redesign existing plastic student ID as NFC-compatible mobile authentication system. Experiment results proved NFC-compatible mobile touch-based interactions can maximize the strengths of NFC technology because it can recognize limits in some situations such as tardiness and absences by automating student validation and preventing far-distance reading.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the published research in the Journal of Muscle and Joint Health and to suggest the future perspectives. Methods: In this study, we reviewed the contents of 195 articles published in this journal from the first issue of the year 1994 to 2007. Results: The majority of subjects were adult, mostly with arthritis. The position of the authors was mostly professor (73.3%). Most of studies did not clearly describe about ethical consideration. The data collection was mostly conducted in the hospital (53.8%) or community (36.9%), with the questionnaire (62.6%). The types of research design were correlational study (36.4%), experimental study (31.8%), survey (18.5%), and qualitative research (4.6%). Physical variables included pain, fatigue, activities of daily living, joint flexibility, muscle strength, etc., psychosocial variables were measured by self-efficacy, depression, quality of life, etc., and cognitive variables by knowledge, education, etc. The most utilized nursing intervention for experimental study were exercise, self-help, and education. Conclusion: Further research is needed to extend the target population research design from multidisciplinary perspectives.

Influence of learning motivation, communication skill, academic self-efficacy on self-directed learning ability in nursing students (간호학생의 학습동기, 의사소통능력, 학업적 자기효능감이 자기주도학습능력에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate learning motivation, communication skill, academic self-efficacy which influence self-directed learning ability in nursing students. A total of 194 second year students were recruited from nursing department in Gwangju. Structured questionnaire was self-administrated from November 2 to 30, 2015. In self-directed learning ability, there were significant differences in gender, personality disposition, applied motivation, satisfaction on major, satisfaction of campus life, and school grade. In multiple regression analysis, learning motivation, communication skill, academic self-efficacy, satisfaction on major and school grade were significant factors of self-directed learning ability explaining 53.1% of the variables. In conclusion, to enhance self-directed learning ability for nursing students, it is necessary to develop program and curriculum for increasing learning motivation, communication skill, and academic self-efficacy.

  • Natural Killer (NK) cells are the lymphocytes that are derived from hematopoietic stem cells, developed in the bone marrow from hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) by sequential acquisition of functional surface receptors, and express the repertoire of inhibitory and activating receptors. Recently, Osteopontin (OPN) has been identified as a critical factor for differentiation of natural killer cells. However, the detailed mechanism of OPN-induced NK differentiation has been still to be elucidated. Here, we determined the signaling pathway and possible receptor for OPN in NK differentiation. OPN induced expression of Bcl-2 and activation of Erk kinase. Inhibition of Erk pathway decreased the effect of OPN on NK differentiation. In addition, the expression of integrin ${\alpha}9$ was significantly increased by OPN during NK differentiation, suggesting the possible role of a major signaling molecule for OPN- induced NK differentiation.
