  • We examined the effects of stimulants including sunlight and UV-irradiation on the spawning induction and early development of the noble scallop, Chlamys nobilis. The sunlight stimulation resulted in nuch faster spawning induction (100% success within 40 minutes) compared to UV-irradiation (100% success within 70 minutes). Early development of the scallop larva took place between 15$^{\circ}C$ to 3$0^{\circ}C$. The time to reach the early D-shaped stage was 63.5, 31.5, 18.5 and 17.0 hours at 15, 20, 25 and 3$0^{\circ}C$, respectively. The correlations between the water temperature-(WT) regimes and the time (t) required for each developmental stage are as follows. 2 cell stage: 1/t=0.0606WT-0.6194 ($r^2$=0.9791) 8 cell stage: 1/t=0.0304WT-0.3453 ($r^2$=0.9941) Morula: 1/t=0.0100WT-0.1049 ($r^2$=0.9663) Trochophore: 1/t=0.0058WT-0.0618 ($r^2$=0.9848) D-shaped larva: 1/t=0.0030WT-0.0282 ($r^2$=0.9731) These correlations indicated that the biological minimum temperature of the species is around 10.44$^{\circ}C$. The highest survival rate up to D-shaped larva at different water temperature was observed at $25^{\circ}C$.

  • Let ${\Gamma}$ be a nonzero torsionless commutative cancellative monoid with quotient group ${\langle}{\Gamma}{\rangle}$, $R={\bigoplus}_{{\alpha}{\in}{\Gamma}}R_{\alpha}$ be a graded integral domain graded by ${\Gamma}$ such that $R_{{\alpha}}{\neq}\{0\}$ for all ${\alpha}{\in}{\Gamma},H$ be the set of nonzero homogeneous elements of R, C(f) be the ideal of R generated by the homogeneous components of $f{\in}R$, and $N(H)=\{f{\in}R{\mid}C(f)_v=R\}$. In this paper, we introduce the notion of graded t-almost Dedekind domains. We then show that R is a t-almost Dedekind domain if and only if R is a graded t-almost Dedekind domain and RH is a t-almost Dedekind domains. We also show that if $R=D[{\Gamma}]$ is the monoid domain of ${\Gamma}$ over an integral domain D, then R is a graded t-almost Dedekind domain if and only if D and ${\Gamma}$ are t-almost Dedekind, if and only if $R_{N(H)}$ is an almost Dedekind domain. In particular, if ${\langle}{\Gamma}{\rangle}$ isatisfies the ascending chain condition on its cyclic subgroups, then $R=D[{\Gamma}]$ is a t-almost Dedekind domain if and only if R is a graded t-almost Dedekind domain.

  • Let C[0, $t$] denote the function space of real-valued continuous paths on [0, $t$]. Define $X_n\;:\;C[0,t]{\rightarrow}\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ and $X_{n+1}\;:\;C[0,t]{\rightarrow}\mathbb{R}^{n+2}$ by $X_n(x)=(x(t_0),x(t_1),{\ldots},x(t_n))$ and $X_{n+1}(x)=(x(t_0),x(t_1),{\ldots},x(t_n),x(t_{n+1}))$, respectively, where $0=t_0 <; t_1 <{\ldots} < t_n < t_{n+1}=t$. In the present paper, using simple formulas for the conditional expectations with the conditioning functions $X_n$ and $X_{n+1}$, we evaluate the $L_p(1{\leq}p{\leq}{\infty})$-analytic conditional Fourier-Feynman transforms and the conditional convolution products of the functions, which have the form $fr((v_1,x),{\ldots},(v_r,x)){\int}_{L_2}_{[0,t]}\exp\{i(v,x)\}d{\sigma}(v)$ for $x{\in}C[0,t]$, where $\{v_1,{\ldots},v_r\}$ is an orthonormal subset of $L_2[0,t]$, $f_r{\in}L_p(\mathbb{R}^r)$, and ${\sigma}$ is the complex Borel measure of bounded variation on $L_2[0,t]$. We then investigate the inverse conditional Fourier-Feynman transforms of the function and prove that the analytic conditional Fourier-Feynman transforms of the conditional convolution products for the functions can be expressed by the products of the analytic conditional Fourier-Feynman transform of each function.

  • In this paper, we introduce an iterative method to study oscillatory properties of delay difference equations of the following form ${\nabla}_{\alpha}\;[x(t)\;-\;r(t)x(t\;-\;k)]\;+\;p(t)x(t\;-\;{\tau})\;-\;q(t)x(t\;-\;{\sigma})\;=\;0$, $t\;{\geq}\;t_0$, where $t_0\;{\in}\;\mathbb{R}$, t varies in the real interval ($t_0,\;{\infty}$), $\alpha$ > 0, $\kappa$, $\tau$, ${\sigma}\;{\geq}\;0$, $r\;{\in}\;C\;([t_0-{\alpha},\;{\infty}),\;\mathbb{R}^+$, p, $q\;{\in}\;C\;([t_0,\;{\infty}),\;\mathbb{R}^+)$ and ${\nabla}_{\alpha}x(t)\;=\;x(t)\;-\;x(t\;-\;{\alpha})$ for $t\;{\geq}\;t_0$.

  • Four genes (yqfR, yfmL, ydbR, deaD) were identified as putative DEAD-box RNA helicase genes in the genomic sequence of Bacillus subtilis by homology search. To understand the function of these genes, each of the genes was deleted and the constructed strains were tested for their growth charateristics at different temperatures. The growth rate of ydbR deletion mutant ($T_d$=53 min) was a little bit reduced at $37^{\circ}C$ as compared to that of wild type strain (CU1065). But the growth rate of other three (yqfR, yfmL, deaD) deletion mutants ($T_d$=30-40 min) is nearly equal to the growth rate of wild type ($T_d$=32 min). On the other hands, the growth rate of deletion mutants were reduced at $22^{\circ}C$ in order of yqfR ($T_d$=151 min), yfmL ($T_d$=214 min), ydbR ($T_d$=343 min), which showed cold-sensitive phenotype. The deletion mutant of deaD ($T_d$=109 min) grew equally as compared to the growth rate ($T_d$=102 min) of the wild type at $22^{\circ}C$ and did not show cold-sensitive growth. Double, triple and quadruple deletion mutants of these genes were constructed, and growth rate of these mutants were measured at various temperature conditions ($22^{\circ}C$, $37^{\circ}C$, $42^{\circ}C$) using LB broth. Multiple deletion mutations showed more severe cold-sensitive growth than single deletion mutations, and double deletion of ydbR and yfmL ($T_d$=984 min) showed most cold-sensitive growth than any other double mutants. Such a cold-sensitive growth of these mutations is quite similar to the result of csdA or srmB deletion in E. coli and suggested that physiological role of ydbR and yfmL is related with ribosome assembly.

  • In order to consider the change of the magnetic anisotropy energy by the Al or Ga substitution for Fe, spin reorientation temperature $T_{SR}$ and Curie temperature $T_{c}$ in $R_{2}Fe_{17-x}M_{x}$ (R=Er, Tm, M=Al, Ga) have been studied both experimentally and theoretically. As a result, $T_{SR}$ and $T_{c}$ for $R_{2}Fe_{17-x}M_{x}$ shift toward higher temperature side with x ($0{\leq}x{\leq}2.0$). The ${\Delta}T_{c}$ the difference of the $T_{c}'s$ between $Er_{2}Fe_{17-x}Al_{x}$ and $Tm_{2}Fe_{17-x}Al_{x}$, is always about 10 K independent of Al-content. But in the case of Ga substitution, the ${\Delta}T_{c}$ increases with Ga-content ; especially, the ${\Delta}T_{c}$ for x=2.0 is 43 K. This value of the ${\Delta}T_{c}$ is not explained by only the difference of the de Gennes fator G between $Er^{3+}$ and $Tm^{3+}$, but it is thought that the values of $J_{ErFe}$ and $J_{TmFe}$ themselves are not equal. • Although resistance of Helicobacter pylori to clarithromycin is a major cause of failure of eradication therapies, little information is available regarding gene mutations of clarithromycin-resistant primary and secondary H. pylori isolates in Korea. In the present study, we examined gene mutations of H. pylori 238 rRNA responsible for resistance to clarithromycin. DNA sequences of the 238 rRNA gene in 21 primary clarithromycin-resistant and 64 secondary clarithromycin-resistant strains were determined by PCR amplification and nucleotide sequence analyses. Two mutations of the 238 rRNA gene, A2143G and T2182C, were observed in primary clarithromycin-resistant isolates. In secondary isolates, dual mutation of A2143G+T2182C was frequently observed. In addition, A2143G+T2182C+ T2190C, A2143G+T2182C+C2195T, and A2143G+T2182C+A2223G were observed in secondary isolates. Furthermore, macrolide binding was tested on purified ribosomes isolated from T2182C or A2143C mutant strains with $[^{14}C]$erythromycin. Erythromycin binding increased in a dose-dependent manner for the susceptible strain but not for the mutant strains. These results indicate that secondary isolates show a greater variety of 238 rRNA gene mutation types than primary isolates, and triple mutations of secondary isolates are associated with A2143G+T2182C in H. pylori isolated from Korean patients.

  • Let $\mathcal{W}$ be an additive full subcategory of the category R-Mod of left R-modules. We provide a method to construct a proper ${\mathcal{W}}^H_C$-resolution (resp. coproper ${\mathcal{W}}^T_C$-coresolution) of one term in a short exact sequence in R-Mod from those of the other two terms. By using these constructions, we introduce and study the stability of the Gorenstein categories ${\mathcal{G}}_C({\mathcal{W}}{\mathcal{W}}^T_C)$ and ${\mathcal{G}}_C({\mathcal{W}}^H_C{\mathcal{W}})$ with respect to a semidualizing bimodule C, and investigate the 2-out-of-3 property of these categories of a short exact sequence by using these constructions. Also we prove how they are related to the Gorenstein categories ${\mathcal{G}}((R{\ltimes}C){\otimes}_R{\mathcal{W}})_C$ and ${\mathcal{G}}(Hom_R(R{\ltimes}C,{\mathcal{W}}))_C$ over $R{\ltimes}C$.

  • In this paper, the effect of J-R curve changes on the determination of parameters in a failure model owing to the presence or absence of a side groove in a C(T) specimen is investigated. A stress-modified fracture strain model is implemented for FE damage simulations. C(T) specimens were taken from SA508 grade 1a low-alloy steel piping material, and some of them were processed with a side groove. Fracture toughness tests were performed at room temperature and at $316^{\circ}C$. The parameters of the failure model were determined by damage simulations using the J-R curves obtained from the tests. Finally, the results show that the determination of failure model parameters is not affected by variations in J-R curves owing to the presence or absence of a side groove.

  • In this letter, we report on the investigation of Ni/Si/Ni Ohmic contacts to n-type 4H-SiC. Ohmic contacts have been formed by a vacuum annealing and $N_2$ gas ambient annealing method at $950^{\circ}C$ for 10 min. The specific contact resistivity ( $\rho_{c}$ ), sheet resistance($R_s$), contact resistance($R_c$), transfer length($L_T$) were calculated from resistance($R_T$) versus contact spacing(d) measurements obtained from 10 TLM(transmission line method) structures. The resulting average values of vacuum annealing sample were $\rho_{c}=3.8{\times}10^{-5}\Omega cm^{3}$, $R_{c}=4.9{\Omega}$, $R_{T}=9.8{\Omega}$ and $L_{T}=15.5{\mu}m$, resulting average values of another sample were $\rho_{c}=2.29{\times}10^{-4}\Omega cm^{3}$, $R_{c}=12.9{\Omega}$ and $R_{T}=25.8{\Omega}$. The physical properties of contacts were examined using X-Ray Diffraction and Auger analysis, there was a uniform intermixing of the Si and Ni, migration of Ni into the SiC.
