  • Continuous-time integrated filters, implemented in MOS VLSI technology, have been receiving considerable attention. In this paper, a continuous-time fifth order elliptic low-pass MOSFET-C filter has been designed with a cutoff frequency 3,400Hz. First an active RC filter is designed using cascade method which each block can be tunable. And then the resistors of an active RC network are replaced by a linear resistor using NMOS depletion transistors operated in the triode region. This continuous-time MOSFET filter have simpler structure than switched-capacitor filter, so reduce the chip area. The designed MOSFET-C filter characteristics are simulated by PSPICE program.

  • One of the most important problems in automatic continuity theory is to solve the question of continuity of an algebra homomorphism from a Banach algebra into a semisimple Banach algebra with dense range. Many results on this subject are obtained imposing some conditions on the domains or the ranges of homomorphisms. For most recent results and references in automatic continuity theory one may refer to [1], [4] and [5]. In this note we study some properties of homomorphisms from $C^{*}$-algebras into Banach algebras. It is shown that the range of an isomorphism from a $C^{*}$-algebra into a Banach algebra contains no non zero element of the radical of B. Using this result we show that the same holds for a continuous homomorphism, hence a Banach algebra which is the image of a $C^{*}$-algebra under a continuous homomorphism is necessarily semisimple. Thus if there is a homomorphism from a $C^{*}$-algebra onto a non-semisimple Banach algebra it must be discontinuous. Also it follows that every non zero homomorphism from a $C^{*}$-algebra into a radical algebra is discontinuous. Then we make a brief observation on the behavior of quasinilpotent element of noncommutative $C^{*}$-algebras in relation with continuous homomorphisms.momorphisms.

  • The mechanical properties of $SiC_f/SiC$ composites reinforced with continuous SiC fiber have been investigated in conjunction with the detailed analysis of their microstructures. Especially, the effect of test temperature on the characterization of $SiC_f/SiC$ composites was examined. In this composite system, a braiding Hi-Nicalon SiC fibric was selected as a reinforcement. $SiC_f/SiC$ composites have been fabricated by the reaction sintering process, using the complex matrix slurry with a constant composition ratio of SiC and C particles. The characterization of $RS-SiC_f/SiC$ composites was investigated by means of SEM, EDS and three point bending test. Based on the mechanical property-microstructure correlation, the high temperature applicability of $RS-SiC_f/SiC$ composites was discussed.

  • We study continuous fields and K-groups of crossed products of C*-algebras. It is shown under a reasonable assumption that there exist continuous fields of C* -algebras between crossed products of C* -algebras by amenable locally compact groups and tensor products of C* -algebras with their group C* -algebras, and their K-groups are the same under the additional assumptions.

  • The disease development of root-rot [pathogen:Cylindrocarpon destruction (Zinssm.) Scholten] occurred in 2-year old ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) was investigated in the continuous (the first cultivation: 1978∼1982, 2nd cultivation: 1990∼1993 and abolished in 1993 due to replanting problem) and replanted cultivation (period of cultivation: 1980∼1984). In the continuous cultivation, incidences of root-rot were 0.7% on May 3, 48.6% on May 24, and 95.8% on June 14, respectively. In the replanted cultivation, no symptom was observed on May 3 and disease incidence was generally lower compared with the continuous cultivation. On the aerial part of the ginseng infected by C. desiccates, the end and/or margin of leaves were changed to dark reddish color that appeared for behind the root-rot symptom. In this field, the longitudinal growth of lateral root was more inhibited than in the case of the replanted cultivation by C. destmctans. The inhibition rate of rootlet growth was 37.3% in the continuous cultivation as compared with that of replanted cultivation at June 14. Though lesions of root-rot were formed all over the roots, 61.2% of the lesions was positioned within 6 cm under the rhizome. Key words Panax ginseng, Cylindrocarpon destmtan, root-rot of ginseng, replanting problem of ginseng.

  • Effects of temperature on the gorwth characteristics and the chemical composition of pseudomonas cells grown under glucose-or methanol-utilizing continuous culture were studied. In a glucose-utilizing continuous culture, optimum dilution rate, agitation, pH, and temperature, for the higher biomass yield were $0.45hr^-$, 7000rpm, pH 7.5, and $30^{\circ}C$, respectively. But in a methanol-utilizing continuous culture, they were $0.125hr^-$, 600rpm, pH 8, and $30^{\circ}C$, respectively. In methanol-utilizing continuous culture, the maximum production rate of the cells was 1.48g, dry wt./1/hr at a dilution rate of $0.45hr^-$, and the cell yield was 0.46g. dry wt./g. glucose. In the methanol-utilizaing continuous culture, the maximum production rate of the cells was 0.33 7g. dry wt./1/hr. at a dilution rate of $0.125hr^-$ and the cell yield was 0.44g dry cell/g. methanol. The contents of protein of the cells increase with the increase ingrowing temperature (from 15 to $30^{\circ}C$), more or less, while the contents of RNA nad carbohydrate of the cells decreased. However, DNA contents of cells growth under the various temperature ranges didn't change. As the temeprature of cultivation rises at a constant dilution rate, the efficiency of RNA in protein synthesis was increased, showing the decreases in the ratio of RNA to protein.

  • It is shown in [1] that the Cauchy problem for the Fornberg-Whitham equation is well-posed in C1(ℝ) and the data-to-solution map is Hölder continuous from Cα to C([0, T]; Cα) with α ∈ [0, 1). In this short paper, we further show that the data-to-solution map of the Fornberg-Whitham equation is not uniformly continuous on the initial data in C1(ℝ).

  • Let X be a completely regular Hausdorff space, and E and F be Banach spaces. Let $C_{rc}(X,E)$ be the Banach space of all continuous functions $f:X{\rightarrow}E$ such that f(X) is a relatively compact set in E. We establish an integral representation theorem for bounded linear operators $T:C_{rc}(X,E){\rightarrow}F$. We characterize continuous operators from $C_{rc}(X,E)$, provided with the strict topologies ${\beta}_z(X,E)$ ($z={\sigma},{\tau}$) to F, in terms of their representing operator-valued measures.
