  • Cache bypassing is a scheme to prevent unnecessary cache blocks from occupying the capacity of the cache for avoiding cache contamination. This method is introduced to alleviate the problems of non-volatile memories (NVMs)-based memory system. However, the prior works have been studied without considering wear-out attack. Malicious writing to a small area in NVMs leads to the failure of the system due to the limited write endurance of NVMs. This paper proposes a novel scheme to prolong the lifetime with higher resistance for the wear-out attack. First, the memory reference pattern is found by modified reuse distance calculation for each cache block. If a cache block is determined as the target of the attack, it is forwarded to higher level cache or main memory without updating the NVM-based cache. The experimental results show that the write endurance is improved by 14% on average and 36% on maximum.

  • Nowadays, various security systems are developed and used for protecting information on the network. Although security solutions can prevent some of the security risks, they provide high performance only if used appropriately in accordance with their purposes and functionality. Security solutions commonly used in information protection systems include firewalls, IDS, and IPS. However, despite various information protection systems are introduced, there are always techniques that can threaten the security systems through bypassing them. The purpose of this paper is to develop effective training techniques for responding to the bypass attack techniques in the information security systems and to develop effective techniques that can be applied to the training. In order to implement the test bed we have used GNS3 network simulator, and deployed it on top of virtual operating system using VirtualBox. The proposed correspondence training scenario against bypassing information protection system attacks could be very effectively used to counteract the real attacks.

  • Many organizations divide the network to manage the network in order to prevent the leakage of internal data between separate organizations / departments by sending and receiving unnecessary traffic. The most fundamental network separation method is based on physically separate equipment. However, there is a case where a network is divided and operated logically by utilizing a virtual LAN (VLAN) network access control function that can be constructed at a lower cost. In this study, we first examined the possibility of bypassing the logical network separation through VLAN ID scanning and double encapsulation VLAN hopping attack. Then, we showed and implemented a data leak scenario by utilizing the acquired VLAN ID. Furthermore, we proposed a simple and effective technique to detect and prevent the double encapsulation VLAN hopping attack, which is also implemented for validation. We hope that this study improves security of organizations that use the VLAN-based logical network separation by preventing internal data leakage or external cyber attack exploiting double encapsulation VLAN vulnerability.

  • Whitelist-based ransomware solution is known as being vulnerable to false impersonation attack using DLL injection attack. To solve this problem, it is proposed to monitor DLL injection attack and to integrate the monitoring result to ransomware solutions. In this paper, we show that attackers can easily bypass the monitoring mechanism and then illegally access files of a target system. It means that whitelist-based ransomware solutions are still vulnerable.

  • As a main component of Internet of Things (IoTs), the wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have been widely applied to various areas, including environment monitoring, health monitoring of human body, farming, commercial manufacture, reconnaissance mission in military, and calamity alert etc. Meanwhile, the privacy concerns also arise when the users are required to get the real-time data from the sensor nodes directly. To solve this problem, several user authentication and key agreement schemes with a smart card and a password have been proposed in the past years. However, these schemes are vulnerable to some attacks such as offline password guessing attack, user impersonation attack by using attacker's own smart card, sensor node impersonation attack and gateway node bypassing attack. In this paper, we propose an improved scheme which can resist a wide variety of attacks in WSNs. Cryptanalysis and performance analysis show that our scheme can solve the weaknesses of previously proposed schemes and enhance security requirements while maintaining low computational cost.

  • U.S. Obama government is submit a motion to consider cyber attacks on State as a war. 7.7DDoS attack in Korea in 2009 and 3.4 DDoS attacks 2011, the country can be considered about cyber attacks. China hackers access a third country, bypassing South Korea IP by hacking the e-commerce sites with fake account, that incident was damaging finance. In this paper, for WiBro service, DDoS attacks, hackers, security incidents and vulnerabilities to the analysis. From hacker's attack, WiBro service's prognostic relevance by analyzing symptoms and attacks, in real time, Divide Red, Orange, Yellow, Green belonging to the risk rating. For hackers to create a blacklist, to defend against attacks in real-time air-conditioning system is the study of security. WiBro networks for incident tracking and detection after the packets through the national incident response should contribute to the development of technology.

  • It is known that memory has been frequently a target threatening the computer system's security while attacks on the system utilizing the memory's weakness are actually increasing. Accordingly, various memory protection mechanisms have been studied on OS while new attack techniques bypassing the protection systems have been developed. Especially, buffer overflow attacks have been developed as attacks of Return to Library or Return-Oriented Programing and recently, a technique bypassing the countermeasure against Return-Oriented Programming proposed. Therefore, this paper is intended to suggest a detection mechanism at binary level by analyzing the procedure and features of Jump-Oriented Programming. In addition, we have implemented the proposed detection mechanism and experimented it may efficiently detect Jump-Oriented Programming attack.

  • Traditional DDoS defence methods are performed at server side which was attacked. If servers detect DDoS attack, they use some methods for defending the attack such as increasing the bandwidth, bypassing the traffic, blocking the IP addresses or blocking the ports by the firewall. But as lots of people use smart-phones, it is possible a smart-phone to be a zombie and DDoS attack could be much more a huge and powerful forms than now. Victims are not only a server but also a host which becomes a zombie. While it performs DDoS attack, zombie smart-phone users have to pay the extra charge. After finish the attack, DDoS try to destroy hard drives of zombie hosts. Therefore the situation is changed rather than to defend DDoS server side only, we should protect a client side who needs to prevent DDoS attacks. In this paper, we study a defence method that we terminates a process which perform the attack, send the information to different hosts when a zombie PC or smart-phone perform DDoS attacks.

  • Vulnerabilities related to memory have been known as major threats to the security of a computer system. Actually, the number of attacks using memory vulnerability has been increased. Accordingly, various memory protection mechanisms have been studied and implemented on operating system while new attack techniques bypassing the protection systems have been developed. Especially, buffer overflow attacks have been developed as Return-Oriented Programing(ROP) and Jump-Oriented Programming(JOP) called Code Re-used attack to bypass the memory protection mechanism. Thus, in this paper, I analyzed code re-use attack techniques emerged recently among attacks related to memory, as well as analyzed various detection mechanisms proposed previously. Based on the results of the analyses, a mechanism that could detect various code re-use attacks on a binary level was proposed. In addition, it was verified through experiments that the proposed mechanism could detect code re-use attacks effectively.

  • DNS spoofing is an attack in which an attacker intervenes in the communication between client and DNS server to deceive DNS server by responding to a fake IP address rather than actual IP address. It is possible to implement a pharming site that hacks user ID and password by duplicating web server's index page and simple web programming. In this paper we have studied web spoofing attack that combines DNS spoofing and pharming site implementation which leads to farming site. We have studied DNS spoofing attack method, procedure and farming site implementation method for portal server of this university. In the case of Kyungsung Portal, bypassing attack and hacking were possible even though the web server was SSL encrypted and secure authentication. Many web servers do not have security measures, and even web servers secured by SSL can be disabled. So it is necessary that these serious risks are to be informed and countermeasures are to be researched.
