  • We shall propose ML, ordinary jackknife and biased reducing estimators of the parameter in the right truncated exponential distribution with an unidentified uniform outlier when the truncated point is unknown and their biases and MSE's are compared numerically each other in the small sample sizes.

Comparing distances obtained from galaxy scaling-relations with the help of group catalogues

  • Galaxy scaling relations, such as the Tully-Fisher relation and the fundamental plane can be used to derive redshift-independent distances. These two scaling-relations are valid for mutually exclusive morphological galaxy types, solid group catalogues are required to compare them within galaxy clusters hosting multiple galaxies. With our investigation, we aim to better understand systematic effects between the scaling rations that may cause potential biases in peculiar motion studies.

  • 다시점 자료 연구에서 일반화추정방정식은 가상관행렬을 잘못 가정하더라도 모수의 일치추정량을 도출하므로 많이 이용된다. 하지만, 결측 체계가 완전임의결측이 아닌 경우에는 편의추정량을 제공하고, 시간-종속적 공변량이 포함된 경우에는 가상관행렬에 따라 회귀계수 추정값이 다르게 도출될 수 있는 문제점이 있다. 결측 체계가 임의결측인 경우에 발생하는 문제를 해결하기 위해 가중 방법과 다중대체 방법을 사용하는 것이 제안되었다. 본 논문에서는 시간-종속적 공변량이 포함된 이분형 반복측정자료를 GEE를 이용하여 분석할 때 다양한 결측 체계에서 일반화추정방정식 방법, 가중 방법, 다중대체 방법의 회귀계수 추정에 대한 로버스트성과 정확성을 모의실험을 통하여 비교해 보았다. 세 가지 방법 모두에서 시간-종속적 공변량의 회귀계수가 시간-독립적 공변량의 회귀계수에 비해 가상관행렬에 따라 추정값의 차이가 크게 나타났다. 다른 두 방법에 비해 다중대체 방법이 가상관행렬의 형태에 대해 더 로버스트하고 편의도 작은 추정치를 도출하였다.

환자만족도 조사의 응답편견과 신뢰도 (Response Bias and Reliability of Patient Satisfaction Survey)

  • 치과의료기관의 질관리를 위한 환자만족도 조사의 측정도구를 개발하고 평가하기 위하여 3회의 설문조사를 실시하였다. 51개소의 치과의료기관이 조사에 참아하였으며, 1017명이 응답하였고, 의료기관의 유형과 자료수집 방법에 따라 5개의 표본 집단으로 분류되었다. 표본 집단과 응답자의 특성에 따른 측정값, 신뢰도, 응답편견의 차이와 효과를 비교하기 위하여 정규성검정, t 검정, 분산분석, 카이스케어 검정, Kruscal-Wallis 검정을 실시하였다. 응답 편견과 균형척도에 의한 신뢰도, 타당도, 척도판별력의 저하효과가 추정되었다. 1. 측정 도구 문제를 평가하기 위한 독립 표본의 신뢰도를 비교한 결과 4개의 표본 집단의 내적 일관성의 신뢰도는 비슷한 수준을 보이고 있다. 2. 두 항목의 균형 척도에 대한 긍정 응답 편견률은 20%이며, 교육 수준에 따라 유의한 차이가 나타났다(P<0.05). 3. 환자 관점의 질 평가 척도의 측정값은 독립 표본 사이에 유의한 차이가 나타나지 않았으며, 연령에 따라 20대와 60대 사이에 유의한 차이가 나타나고 있다(P<0.01). 4. Likert 5점 척도로 구성된 총화평정척도의 평균은 4.16으로 좌측으로 편이되고 중앙값에 집중된 높은 첨도의 분포를 보였다. 5. 하위척도 사이의 평균차, 삼사분위값 대 일사분위값의 평균차가 95%의 신뢰구간에 포함되어 측정도구의 판별력은 매우 낮았다.

Analysis of Organic Molecular Markers in Atmospheric Fine Particulate Matter: Understanding the Impact of "Unknown" Point Sources on Chemical Mass Balance Models

  • Particle-phase organic tracers (molecular markers) have been shown to be an effective method to assess and quantify the impact of sources of carbonaceous aerosols. These molecular markers have been used in chemical mass balance (CMB) models to apportion primary sources of organic aerosols in regions where the major organic aerosol source categories have been identified. As in the case of all CMB models, all important sources of the tracer compounds must be included in a Molecular Marker CMB (MM-CMB) model or the MMCMB model can be subject to biases. To this end, the application of the MM-CMB models to locations where reasonably accurate emissions inventory of organic aerosols are not available, should be performed with extreme caution. Of great concern is the potential presence of industrial point sources that emit carbonaceous aerosols and have not been well characterized or inventoried. The current study demonstrates that emissions from industrial point sources in the St. Louis, Missouri area can greatly bias molecular marker CMB models if their emissions are not correctly addressed. At a sampling site in the greater St. Louis Area, carbonaceous aerosols from industrial point sources were found to be important source of carbonaceous aerosols during specific time periods in addition to common urban sources (i.e. mobile sources, wood burning, and road dust). Since source profiles for these industrial sources have not been properly characterized, method to identify time periods when point sources are impacting a sampling site, needs to avoid obtaining biases source apportionment results. The use of real time air pollution measurements, along with molecular marker measurements, as a screening tool to identify when point sources are impacting a receptor site is presented.

CORDEX-동아시아 2단계 영역 재현실험을 통한 WRF 강수 모의성능 평가 (Evaluation of Reproduced Precipitation by WRF in the Region of CORDEX-East Asia Phase 2)

  • This study evaluates the performance of the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model in reproducing the present-day (1981~2005) precipitation over Far East Asia and South Korea. The WRF model is configured with 25-km horizontal resolution within the context of the COordinated Regional climate Downscaling Experiment (CORDEX) - East Asia Phase 2. The initial and lateral boundary forcing for the WRF simulation are derived from European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecast Interim reanalysis. According to our results, WRF model shows a reasonable performance to reproduce the features of precipitation, such as seasonal climatology, annual and inter-annual variabilities, seasonal march of monsoon rainfall and extreme precipitation. In spite of such model's ability to simulate major features of precipitation, systematic biases are found in the downscaled simulation in some sub-regions and seasons. In particular, the WRF model systematically tends to overestimate (underestimate) precipitation over Far East Asia (South Korea), and relatively large biases are evident during the summer season. In terms of inter-annual variability, WRF shows an overall smaller (larger) standard deviation in the Far East Asia (South Korea) compared to observation. In addition, WRF overestimates the frequency and amount of weak precipitation, but underestimates those of heavy precipitation. Also, the number of wet days, the precipitation intensity above the 95 percentile, and consecutive wet days (consecutive dry days) are overestimated (underestimated) over eastern (western) part of South Korea. The results of this study can be used as reference data when providing information about projections of fine-scale climate change over East Asia.

2014년 JCOMM 해수 염분 측정 국제 상호비교실험 결과 보고 (Summary of 2014 JCOMM Pilot Inter-Comparison Project for Seawater Salinity Measurements)

  • The inter-comparison project for seawater salinity measurements, in which 25 laboratories from 16 countries took part, was conducted by JCOMM (Joint WMO/IOC Technical Commission for Oceanography and Marine Meteorology) for the first time in 2014. Two seawater samples of different salinity values ranging from 30-35 and 20-25 for Sample A and Sample B respectively and which had sufficient homogeneity and stability were distributed to all participants. Participants measured the salinity in their own laboratories at least 3 times and reported the results. Statistical treatments were applied to the results to assess discrepancies among laboratories. 20 out of the 25 laboratories used laboratory salinometers and statistics for this group were denoted as belonging to group ${\alpha}$; while 5 out of the 25 laboratories used hand-held measuring instruments and statistics for this group were denoted as belonging to group ${\beta}$. Bias described as discrepancy among laboratories in group ${\alpha}$ was within ${\pm}0.001$ and expanded uncertainty (k = 2) was in the vicinity of 0.002. The bias and the uncertainty of Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST), in group ${\alpha}$, were 0.000 and 0.002, respectively. The biases of group ${\beta}$ were greater than group ${\alpha}$ because of constraints related to instrument accuracy. Biases from 3 laboratories in group ${\beta}$ exceed the accuracy specification of the corresponding instruments. Considering that the uncertainty of Standard Seawater (SSW) is of the order 0.001 to 0.002, the inter-comparison results show that 16 laboratories among the 25 laboratories made high quality measurements, largely indistinguishable from one another.

극단치 분포의 모수 추정방법 비교 연구(회귀 분석법을 기준으로) (Comparison Study of Parameter Estimation Methods for Some Extreme Value Distributions (Focused on the Regression Method))

  • 극단치 분포의 모수 추정방법으로 최우추정법, 확률가중적률법, 회귀분석법은 기존 연구에서 활발하게 적용되어져 왔다. 그러나 이들 세 가지 추정방법 가운데, 회귀분석법의 우수성은 엄격하게 평가되어진 적이 없다. 본 논문에서는 몬테칼로 시뮬레이션을 통하여 Generalized Extreme Value(GEV) 분포와 Generalized Pareto(GP) 분포의 모수 추정에 회귀분석법 및 다른 추정방법을 적용하여 비교 연구한다. 시뮬레이션 결과, 표본의 크기가 작은 경우 회귀분석 법은 GEV 분포의 위치모수 추정시 편의 측면과 효율성 측면에서 다른 방법보다 우수한 경향을 나타내었다. GP 분포의 규모모수 추정시에는 표본의 크기 가 작을 경우 회귀분석법이 다른 방법보다 작은 편의를 나타내었다. 회귀분석법은 표본의 크기 가 작거나 적당히 큰 경우에도 GEV 분포나 GP 분포의 형태모수 추정시에 형태모수의 값이 -0.4일 경우, 다른 방법보다 우수한 경향을 나타내었다.

Preferences and flexibility in decision-making among dental clinicians regarding the treatment of multirooted teeth: an interactive communication device-based survey at two academic conferences

  • Purpose: Decision-making by dental and medical experts can be influenced by their biases, interests, and experiences, and academic arguments about controversial issues may additionally be considered indirect experiences capable of affecting decision-making. This study reports on the use of interactive communication devices to evaluate preferences and flexibility in decision-making among dental care providers who attended two distinct academic conferences. Methods: Two debates were presented by a team of two lecturers at two academic conferences (focusing on periodontology and implant dentistry, respectively) and the audience members of each session were surveyed. Before each lecture, two case modules about the diagnosis and treatment of multirooted molar lesions were provided, and interactive communication devices were used to collect responses about decision-making preferences in treatment planning immediately before and after a debate about treatment strategies. Results: In total, 81 and 84 completed answers from both conferences were obtained for the first and second case modules, respectively. The preferred treatment plan differed significantly according to the focus of the conference, and a tendency emerged for the clinicians participating in each conference to express uniform preferences. However, attending the debates resulted in significant changes in decision-making preferences regardless of the conference focus or the characteristics of the participants. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that providing continuing education via debates on controversial issues may be effective in widening conceptual knowledge and reducing biases among experts in the dental and medical fields.
