  • Command shaping is an important method to reduce vibration in flexible beam. This paper presents a very simple command control shaping which eliminates multiple mode residual vibration in a flexible beam in finite time. The command is constructed by solving linear equations. The finite time duration in which the desired motion of joint angle is achieved along with elimination of the residual vibration can be arbitrarily specified. The necessary conditions for using command as a reference input for the joint angle in a closed-loop configuration are also discussed. The effectiveness of Proposed scheme is demonstrated through computer simulation.

  • A fuzzy control strategy is described which is utilized to control the joint angle and tip deflection in single flexible manipulator. In this paper, an existing model for a single flexible manipulator is used f3r the initial development of an FLC. One FLC is designed to govern the joint angle of the manipulator as it is rotated from one position to another, and a second FLC is designed to attenuate the tip deflection which result from joint angle body motion. • The problem considered in this paper is that the tip position of a flexible cantilever beam is controlled to follow a command signal, using a pair of piezoelectric actuators at the clamped end. The beam is lightly damped and so the natural transient response is rather long, and also since the sensor and actuator are not collocated, the plant response is non-minimum phase. Two control strategies were investigated. The first involved conventional PID control in which the feedback gains were adjusted to give the fastest closed-loop response to a step input. The second control strategy was based on an internal model control (IMC) architecture. The control filter in the IMC controller was a digital FIR device designed to minimize the expectation of the mean square tracking error. The IMC controller designed fur the beam was found to have very much reduced settling times to a step input compared with those of the PID controller.

  • The static characteristic of a piezoelectric beam is for finding resonance frequency of the beam. In practice, it is required to analyze the beam with external command circuit including capacitors, inductors, and resistors for control. It means that the proper analysis of a piezoelectric beam with external command circuit is required by a dynamic analysis. We can also got transient and steady-state solution from the analysis. In this paper, the static and dynamic characteristic of the piezoelectric beam using FEM(Finite Element Method) are proposed.

  • In this paper, the optimal command input is considered in order to minimize the residual vibrations of a flexible cantilever beam when the beam simply changes its position by translation or rotation. Although a cantilever beam has many modes of vibration, it is shown that the consideration of the first mode is sufficient in this case. Thus, the problem becomes a singledegree-of-freedom system subjected to a ground excitation. Two simple methods are proposed to find the optimal command input based on the Shock Response Spectrum (SRS). The first method is the simplest and can be applied to lightly damped cases, and the second method is applicable to more general problems. The second method gives almost the same results as the input shaping method. However the proposed method gives a easier and clearer control strategy.

  • This paper aims to constitute a feedback vibration control system using wireless sensor networks and experiment it on a model structure to verify its effectiveness. For the purpose, we set up a feedback vibration control system composed of a wireless input/output(I/O) sensor node based on bluetooth, a home-made shear type MR damper, a shaker which generates a constant size of sine wave, and a simple beam model structure. The vibration control experiment was performed by shaking the 1/4 point of beam with a shaker. At the moment of shaking, we controled the vibration with MR damper which was placed vertically on the center of beam. Simultaneously, by acquiring acceleration response at the 2/4 point of beam, we evaluated the effectiveness of control capability. The control command was set to send a voltage signal to MR damper when the acceleration response, acquired from the wireless I/O sensor node placed at the center of beam, was more than a certain amount. Although the realtime feedback vibration control system constituted in this paper is effective only within a limited command system, it has been proven that the system was able to effectively decrease the vibration of structure by generating a control command aimed for realtime purpose. The system also showed a possibility to be used as a structural response control system adapting a variety of semi-active control algorithm.

  • A beam steering system of X-band 2-D phased array antenna for radar application is developed. The beam steering system consists of real-time command generator, beam steering unit, control PCB of array module and power supply. It plays a role of beam steering and on-line check of phased array antenna. The performance of beam steering system is verified with pulse timing of current control in phase shifters and measurement of far-field of phased array antenna. The developed beam steering system offers basic technology to develop full-scale beam steering system of multi-function radar.

  • A controller built with the gyro effect for a balance-beam can freely control the attitude of an unstructured object by changing the position of an inner gimbal. In this paper, we propose a new balance-beam controller that can detect the inertia of the load to limit the velocity of the load commanded by a user. We found that when there was smaller load inertia, a larger restoration displacement occurred. Therefore, the load can be identified by issuing a predefined command to measure the restoration displacement, which enables us to construct a controller that can limit the angular velocity of the load by planning the motion. Experimental results show the performance of the controller with different loads.
