  • A Nanosized $WO_3$ and CuO powder mixture is prepared using novel high-energy ball milling in a bead mill to obtain a W-Cu nanocomposite powder, and the effect of milling time on the structural characteristics of $WO_3-CuO$ powder mixtures is investigated. The results show that the ball-milled $WO_3-CuO$ powder mixture reaches at steady state after 10 h milling, characterized by the uniform and narrow particle size distribution with primary crystalline sizes below 50 nm, a specific surface area of $37m^2/g$, and powder mean particle size ($D_{50}$) of $0.57{\mu}m$. The $WO_3-CuO$ powder mixtures milled for 10 h are heat-treated at different temperatures in $H_2$ atmosphere to produce W-Cu powder. The XRD results shows that both the $WO_3$ and CuO phases can be reduced to W and Cu phases at temperatures over $700^{\circ}C$. The reduced W-Cu nanocomposite powder exhibits excellent sinterability, and the ultrafine W-Cu composite can be obtained by the Cu liquid phase sintering process.

  • $Gd_2O_3$-doped $CeO_2$(GDC) solid solutions have been considered as a promising materials for electrolytes in intermediate-temperature solid oxide fuel cells. In this study, the nano-sized GDC powder with average panicle size of 69nm was prepared by a high energy ball milling process and its sintering behavior was investigated. Heat-treatment at $1200^{\circ}C$ of nano-sized GDC powder mixture led to GDC solid-solution. The enhanced densification over 96% of relative density was obtained after sintering at $1300^{\circ}C$ for 2h. It was found that the sinterability of GDC powder could be significantly improved by the introduction of a high energy ball milling process.

  • Recycling technology of aluminum foil scraps into aluminum flake powder by ball milling in dry or wet conditions was studied. Aluminum foil were laminated each other, elongated through microforging by the falling balls, fragmented into small foils and then changed into flake powder during ball milling. It is also possible to recycle foil scraps with thickness less than $60\mu\textrm{m}$ into aluminum paste by wet ball milling. As initial foil thickness decreases, foil is easily milled to flake powder by wet milling in mineral spirits. the appearance and the opaque character of glass painted with aluminum paste obtained by wet milling of foils are similar to those of aluminum paste made by ball milling of gas atomized powder.

  • This study surveyed consumers' sensory liking ratings of 3 types of developed brown rice products (brown rice nut waffles, Kimchi and tuna rice ball, sweet red-bean paste rice ball) and analyzed the drivers for liking or disliking the brown rice products. Each brown rice product had a brown rice to brown rice powder ratio of either: 100:0; 80:20; or 50:50. Forty consumers evaluated the acceptance of brown rice products on a 9-point hedonic scale and gave comments regarding liking or disliking each product. The results of the preference investigation analysis showed subjectivity depending on the brown rice product and the respondents' genders and ages. For brown rice nut waffles was affected by gender, age, and brown rice powder mixing ratio (p < 0.05). The variables "liking the aroma"; "liking the delicate flavor"; "liking the chewiness"; "liking the moistness"; "liking the softness"; "liking the harmony"; "liking the aftertaste" and "overall acceptability" did not differ significantly with the Kimchi and tuna rice ball. For the sweet red-bean paste rice ball product, the rates of liking the chewiness, stickiness, moistness, and softness of the 0% brown rice powder mix were all higher (p < 0.05) than were the rates of liking those same qualities in the 50% brown rice powder mix. Among all brown rice products, there were high correlations between the overall acceptability, liking the saltiness, liking the aroma, and liking the harmony. A preference investigation analysis showed that the brown rice product fillings were key factors to the products' overall acceptability.

  • In order to make a $Cu_2ZnSnSe_4$ (CZTSe) sputtering target sintered for solar cell application, synthesis of CZTSe compound by solid state reaction of Cu, Zn, Sn and Se mixed powders and effects of ball milling condition on sinterability such as ball size, combination of ball size, ball milling time and sintering temperature, was investigated. As a result of this research, sintering at $500^{\circ}C$ after ball milling using mixed balls of 1 mm and 3 mm for 72 hours was the optimum condition to synthesis near stoichiometric composition of $Cu_2ZnSnSe_4$ and to prepare sintered pellet with high density relatively.

  • To fabricate W-Cu nanocomposite powder, $WO_3$-CuO powder mixture was high-energetically ball-milled and subsequently hydrogen-reduced. The effect of ball-milling on the hydrogen-reduction behavior of$ WO_3$-CuO was investigated with non-isothermal hygrometric analysis during hydrogen-reduction. Increasing the ball-milling time, the reduction peak temperatures of humidity curves were shifted to low temperature. It was considered that the reduction temperature should be decreased because the specific surface area of each oxide considerably increased with increasing the ball-milling time. In case of ball-milling for 0 h, $WO_3$and CuO were independently hydrogen-reduced and W particles were nucleated on the surface of Cu adjacent to W by CVT. However, in case of ball-milling for 50 h, the aggregates of about 200-300 nm were observed. W particles of size below 30-50 nm were homogeneously distributed with Cu in the aggregates.

  • Electromagnetic wave energies are consumed in the form of thermal energy, which is mainly caused by magnetic loss, dielectric loss and conductive loss. In this study, CNT was added to the nanocrystalline soft magnetic materials inducing a high magnetic loss, in order to improve the dielectric loss of the EM wave absorption sheet. Generally, the aspect ratio and the dispersion state of CNT can be changed by the pre-ball milling process, which affects the absorbing properties. After the various ball-milling processes, 1wt% of CNTs were mixed with the nanocrystalline $Fe_{73}Si_{16}B_7Nb_{3}Cu_1$ base powder, and then further processed to make EM absorption sheets. As a result, the addition of CNT to Fe-based nanocrystalline materials improved the absorption properties. However, the increase of ball-milling time for more than 1h was not desirable for the powder mixture, because the ballmilling caused the shortening of CNT length and the agglomeration of the CNT flakes.

  • Study about the feasibility and effect of high-energy ball milling on a specific Mg alloy under protection medium of alcohol was presented via comparing with conventional vacuum milling. More fine particles with wider powder size distribution but more irregular shape were shown of the powder milled under alcohol. No obvious oxide was revealed from the two kinds of Mg alloy powders with limited milling time. And since slip induced in a preferential direction, the (002) texture was formed in the Mg alloy powders at the initial stage of alcohol milling. More O and Fe contaminants were introduced into the powders milled under alcohol according to the EDS analysis.

  • This study investigated the effects of revolution speed and ball size in planetary milling on the microstructure and dehydrogenation behavior of TiH2 powder. The particle size analysis showed that the large particles present in the raw powder were effectively refined as the revolution speed increased, and when milled at 500 rpm, the median particle size was 1.47 ㎛. Milling with a mixture of balls of two or three sizes was more effective in refining the raw powder than milling with balls of a single size. A mixture of 3 mm and 5 mm diameter balls was the optimal condition for particle refinement, and the measured median particle size was 0.71 ㎛. The dependence of particle size on revolution speed and ball size was explained by changes in input energy and the number of contact points of the balls. In the milled powder, the endothermic peak measured using differential thermal analysis was observed at a relatively low temperature. This finding was interpreted as the activation of a dehydrogenation reaction, mainly due to the increase in the specific surface area and the concentration of lattice defects.

  • In this research, the optimal manufacturing conditions of fine Si powders from Si scrap were investigated as a function of different initial powder size using the high-energy ball milling equipment, which produces the fine powder by means of an ultra high-energy within a short duration. The morphological change of the powders according to the milling time was observed by Scanning electron microscopy (SEM). With the increasing milling time, the size of Si powder was decreased. In addition, more energy and stress for milling were required with the decreasing initial powder size. The refinement of Si scrap was rapidly carried out at 10min ball milling time. However, the refined powder started to agglomerate at 30 min milling time, while the powder size became uniform at 60 min milling time.
