Time Pickoff method using an Automatic Gain Control (자동 이득 조절(AGC) 기반의 Time pickoff 회로)

  • A time-pickoff circuit used for time measurement suffers from a timing error due to the dependence of the generation time of a timing pulse on the size of the input signal, i.e., time walk. In this study, a time-pickoff method, which employs an automatic gain control (AGC) circuit, is proposed for reducing the timing error. The AGC circuit is added to the input of the comparator, and it renders the sizes of input signals of the comparator relatively uniform. The performance of the proposed time-pickoff method is analyzed using the SPICE simulation, and experiments are performed to confirm the analytical results. The measured time walk is reduced to 2.000 ns by 65% for input signals with a dynamic range of 20 dB as compared to a typical leading-edge discriminator.

  • The purpose of interlocking system in railway is to prevent the route for a train being set up and its protecting signal cleared if there were already another, conflicting route set up and the protecting signal for that route cleared. Recently, conventional relays circuitry in industrial field is replaced to computer-based control systems according to the advance of computer and communication technology. Therefore, interlocking systems in railway field are rapidly changing from existing relay-based interlocking system to computer-based electronic ones that executes the vital interlocking logic to assure the safety train routes at trackside signaling equipment room using electronic circuits. So it is very important to verify the performance of developed electronic interlocking system by plentiful laboratory testing before actually application in the railway system. However the laboratory testing in the present state of railway signaling is preformed individually by manual, so very much test time and cost are required. To solve these problems, we are developed the simulator for automatic interlocking inspection in this research. This simulator is able to operate on general personal computer and has following beneficial functions : automatic test sheet generation for inspection, automatic inspection execution and et al. The experiments are executed to test the feasibility of the developed simulator the experimental results have good agreements with the anticipated ones.

Mitigation of Low Frequency AC Ripple in Single-Phase Photovoltaic Power Conditioning Systems

  • A photovoltaic power conditioning system (PV PCS) that contains single-phase dc/ac inverters tends to draw an ac ripple current at twice the output frequency. Such a ripple current perturbs the operating points of solar cells continuously and it may reduce the efficiency of the current based maximum power point tracking technique (CMPPT). In this paper, the ripple current generation in a dc link and boost inductor is analyzed using the ac equivalent circuit of a dc/dc boost converter. A new feed-forward ripple current compensation method to incorporate a current control loop into a dc/dc converter for ripple reduction is proposed. The proposed feed-forward compensation method is verified by simulation and experimental results. These results show a 41.8 % reduction in the peak-to peak ac ripple. In addition, the dc/ac inverter control system uses an automatic voltage regulation (AVR) function to mitigate the ac ripple voltage effect in the dc link. A 3kW PV PCS prototype has been built and its experimental results are given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • Recently, various applications of robot system become more popular in accordance with rapid development of computer hardware/software, artificial intelligence, and automatic control technology. Formerly robots mainly have been used in industrial field, however, nowadays it is said that the robot will do an important role in the home service application. To make the robot more useful, we require further researches on implementation of natural communication method between the human and the robot system, and autonomous behavior generation. The gesture recognition technique is one of the most convenient methods for natural human-robot interaction, so it is to be solved for implementation of intelligent robot system. In this paper, we describe the state-of-the-art of advanced gesture recognition technologies for intelligent robots according to three methods; sensor based method, feature based method, appearance based method, and 3D model based method. And we also discuss some problems and real applications in the research field.

  • National projects on renewable energy and new energy are driven more actively than ever in many countries for the exhaustion of fossil fuel energy from the turn of the century. Such activities began to spread out in railway industry with centering around west European countries. Electric energy is generated on the hybrid vehicle itself, which contributes to reduction of the cost for construction of the infrastructure required for the supply of electric power. Hybrid tram is mainly composed of propulsion system to control electric energy, automatic guidance system to control steering and operation, and central vehicle unit to control and monitor major electronic devices. Generation and supply of electric power are made by the combination of engine generator and battery, or fuel cell and super capacitor.

A Study on the Resetting of Incremental Heat Rate Curve of Combined Cycle Unit by Combination (복합발전기 조합별 증분비 곡선 재설정에 관한 연구)

  • Combined Cycle Unit(CC) generates the primary power from the Gas Turbine(GT) and supplies the remaining heat of the GT to the Steam Turbine(ST) to generate the secondary power from the ST. It plays a major role in terms of energy efficiency and Load Frequency Control(LFC). Incremental Heat Rate(IHR) curves of economic dispatch(ED) of CC is applied differently by GT/ST combination. But It is practically difficult because of performance test by all combinations. This paper suggests a reasonable method for estimating IHR curves for partial combinations(1:1~(N-1):1) using IHR curves when operating with GT alone(1:0) and with all(N:1) combinations of CC.

  • Lots of researches and applications on the automated overhead cranes in shops have been done for some decades, but a few successful results are reported. Integrated crane control systems designed by famous engineering companies are still expensive and are not satisfactory in view of maintenance and reliability. A more reasonable control system fit to requirements of manufacturing industries is suggested in the study. The new deigned system has superior capabilities for anti-sway of rope and position control. The controller for automated operations is composed of a Linux-based PC for non real-time control and a high-speed PLC for hard real-time control. Some algorithms required for coil yard operations as well as main control algorithms such as reference position generation, position control and anti-sway control have been designed and fully tested on the new crane simulator. The designed crane control system showed satisfactory performance on position control accuracy and anti-sway of rope. The maximum positional error is 8mm and the maximum sway error is 0.1 degrees. The suggested control strategies have been successfully applied to the 10-1 crane in No. 4 CGL of in the Kwangyang Steel Works and in commercial operation.

  • AVR(Automatic Voltage Regulator) of exciter control system in AC generator controls voltage and current according to load and terminal voltage variations in order to remain at the bus voltage. The output characteristics of main generator is dependent on the control performance of AVR. This paper presents the PWM type exciter system with transient response compensator for robust control of load variations. Additional transient response compensator generates compensation signal for load variation. So the proposed excitation control system has fast dynamic response in transient period and can control terminal voltage constantly. The proposed method is verified by the computer simulation and experimental results in prototype generation system.

  • The design and implementation of an engine control system has become an important area in developing a new car, but the implementation of an engine control system is becoming a tedious and time-consuming work as the level of complexity increases. In order to shorten the development cycle of the control system, rapid control prototyping (RCP) technique deserves developers' attention. A new RCP platform has been developed for an automotive engine control application. This prototyping system strictly adheres to the layered architecture of the final production ECU, and separates the automatically generated part of software, or the application area, from the hand coded area, which generally carefully designed and tested because of the hardware dependency and the efficiency of microcontroller. The $Matlab{\circledR}$ tool-chain of Mathworks Inc. has been selected as a base environment in this study. A newly developed Engine Control Toolbox of Real-Time $Workshop{\circledR}$ converts a graphically represented control algorithm into optimized application codes and links them with other parts of the software to generate executable code for the target processor.

  • Automatic transfer equipments of manufacturing and process line trend toward big size as LCD glass is big size, heavy weight. The conventional stocker uses rotational motor and mechanical power converter device as travel axis of stocker crane and then frequent maintenances by complex structure and mechanical friction are required. Also it has problem to minimize the particle generation. To solve these problems, this paper verified the performance of permanent magnet(PM) excited transverse flux linear motor(TFLM) that is big power density per unit volume applied for travel axis of 7 generation stocker that is being big size, high power, long distance by the experiment based on proposed control algorithm, controller and power converter device.
