  • Twenty three year old soldier, was referred to me because of extreme mandibular prognathism. Eight years before, the patient had become aware of some protrusion of his mandible. Up until this time, his jaws seemed to have been developing normally. The oblique osteotomy of the mandible was performed. Risdon cable wiring was used in the upper and lower jaw in order to immobilize the mandible by intermaxillary wiring. The patient recovered from the operation, and was discharged from the 1st Army Hospital after 6 months with good functional mandibular relationship. The appearance of the patient was greatly improved.

  • Due to Japanese imperialism's invasion of Korea and the policy of exterminating national culture, many independence activists from Korean medicine participated in the Manchurian Independence Army activities and the fight for freedom. Kang Woo-kyu, who threw a bomb at the governor-General of Korea on September 2, 1919, can be cited as a leader who learned East Asian medicine. Kim Kwanje, who organized a secret organization by opening an East Asian medicine clinic in Gimhae, Gyeongsangnam-do, was involved in the struggle of the medical corps while working as a medical student. He is accused of providing a shelter by treating members of the Uiryeoldan. In 1919, the Manchurian Independence Army unit, which launched the March 1st Movement armed struggle, was established, and those who served as military doctors in various organizations can be found. Park Se-jung, who participated as an independent soldier at the age of 47, treated wounded soldiers and patients as a military doctor. A branch office was also created by raising military funds and participating in the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea. Jang Hyong was able to raise independent military funds, campaign for the provisional government's independence petition, and lecture across the country mostly disguised as an East Asian medicine doctor, which led to several imprisonments for "fraud charges under the guise of similar medical practices".

  • This study analyzed the post-training satisfaction level and changes in their thinking of 202 maladjusted soldiers who participated in Green Camp from 2017 to 2018 through survey, and the operational status of Green Camp to 350 military officials. In addition, general matters of military official, matters concerning soldiers entering the Green Camp, matters concerning the use of the Green Camp, and matters related to the consultation of soldiers in their relevant units were analyzed through technical statistics. On March 17, 2019, the Department of Defense identified 6,118 98.4% of the 6,214 maladjusted soldiers with active duty failed to complete military service and discharged, among them, 66% or 4,014 reportedly experienced maladjustment. Therefore, it is necessary to earlier identify soldiers who are discharged due to maladjustment, to apply various methods such as education and career guide by civil expert, to conduct timely education through civil professional hospital so that they can complete their military service normally.

  • The present research investigated the influence of the enlistment motivation on an image of military organization, soldier's stress, a confidence of social life after discharge from military service and military life satisfaction in Korean military service. Participants of this research were 257 soldiers (121 conscript Army soldiers and 136 voluntary Marines) from 2 companies in the army and 2 companies in the Marine Corps located in South Korea. Results of this study showed that 1) conscript Army group(M=2.39, SD=.71)had a significantly higher score than voluntary Marines group(M=1.95, SD=.63)in extrinsic enlistment motivation. On the contrary, Marines group(M=4.16, SD=.76) had a significantly higher score than Army group(M=3.62, SD=.87) in intrinsic enlistment motivation. 2) Enlistment by intrinsic motivation has positive influence on the military life. Result of Regression analysis showed that enlistment by intrinsic motivation significantly predicted a military life satisfaction(𝛽=.402, t=6.424, p<.001), a confidence of social life(𝛽=.528, t=9.836, p<.001), and an image of military organization(𝛽=.494, t=8.486, p<.001). On the other hand, enlistment by extrinsic motivation has negative influence on the military life. Result of Regression analysis showed that enlistment by extrinsic motivation significantly predicted the soldier's stress in military life(𝛽=.415, t=6.642, p<.001), and no confidence of social life(𝛽=-.177, t=-3.306, p<.001). These results suggest that Korean military needs to focus on enhancing intrinsic enlistment motivation of young men of conscription age before conscription by educating, and advertising etc. And also, we discuss that Korean military needs to consider how to boost intrinsic motivation of military life.

  • Special training soldier for thermal equipment during army heavy equipment maintenance education is small training equipment and many trainees have few opportunities for practical training, and there is a high risk of safety accidents during maintenance training. Because practical training is limited and repeated practice is difficult, a training system is needed. In this study, we propose a virtual training system that can reduce the training cost beyond the time and space, enable realistic experiential training, reflect the standard maintenance manual, and train teamwork. The virtual training system using the virtual augmented reality is a system that can reduce the cost beyond the space and time and can be practically practiced. The first-person virtual training system using HMD, which is the three-dimensional display system proposed in this study, is suitable for army thermal equipment maintenance education system. The proposed system is expected to be useful for maintenance training of other equipments and other groups because it has good scalability.

  • This paper presents a mixed linear and integer goal programming (GP) model to aid in strategic planning and scheduling of guard soldiers. The proposed model is a general-purpose model, hence can be used to produce an optimal schedule with respect to any user-provided combination of guard post objectives and soldier preferences. We extensively test the usefulness of the model on a real-life dataset from a guard post in the ROK Army with using three objectives set by the guard post and three preferences provided by individual solders. Numerical results and analysis from these experiments show that the proposed guard scheduling model efficiently as well as effectively generates an optimal guard schedule and can also be used for an optimal revision of any existing schedule. In summary, these illustrate that the proposed model can be practically used for optimal planning and scheduling of guard soldiers in guard posts.

  • Simultaneously with the founding of the Joseon military system was reformed. On the basis of Koryo's '2gun 6wie(二軍 六衛)' reorganized into '10wie 50ryong(10衛 50領)'. But the de facto central military power was in Euhungqingunwie(義興親軍衛) that is Lee Seong-gye's Elite Guard. In addition to these make up the backbone of the central forces that were Siwiepae(侍衛牌). Also a anti-legislation Seongzhongaima(成衆愛馬) was also presented. But soon the military command and military systems will start to repair. First, reform of military command system of the unified command system shall be established for the Euhungqingunwie(義興親軍衛). And Jeongdojeon has strengthened the military education and training. But, for the establishment of Military command system the most important was the reform of the private soldier. Military systems also have been systematized. shipwie(十衛) was changed to the shipsa(十司) in Taejo. After, they are expanded to shipyisa(十二司) in Sejong. And, the Gabsa(甲士) were returned. In addition, various special branch of the army, Byelsiwie(別侍衛), Naegumewie(內禁衛), gyumsabok(兼司僕) etc, are increased and founded.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to investigate sleep, fatigue, and the level of health promoting behaviors in Korean army soldiers. The factors influencing on health promoting behaviors of soldiers were also identified. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive survey design was used. Data was collected from 269 soldiers in four military units of Korea in July 2015. Verran and Snyder-Halpern Sleep Scale, Fatigue Severity Scale, and Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile-II were used. Results: The health promoting behaviors were significantly different by perceived health status (p<.001) and presence of fatigue (p<.001). There were significant correlations between quality of sleep, fatigue, and health promoting behaviors of the subjects. In a multiple linear regression analysis, the level of health promoting behaviors were lower in the subjects with high level of fatigue (p<.001) and with fair perceived health status (p=.003). Conclusion: In order to increase health promoting behaviors of soldiers, it takes into account of soldiers' fatigue and perceived health status. Environmental arrangement for soldiers for the break time is needed urgently to decrease their fatigue as well as to improve their sleep quality.

  • In recent years, interest in the welfare of soldiers is increasing. More specifically, soldiers enlisted to fulfill their military service obligations live a group life that is controlled by group life, unlike military officers selected by their will. Therefore, this study aims to verify whether there is an effect of improving the morale of soldiers by increasing the satisfaction of military service meals along with the trend of increasing morale through enhancement of soldier welfare. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, we surveyed 145 army soldiers working in the front and rear areas and used 137 valid samples for analysis. The results of this study are as follows. First, both SERVQUAL (Responsiveness·Assurance, Tangibles) and Servicescape (Spatial Environment, Spatial Design) had a positive (+) effect on military meal satisfaction. Second, military service satisfaction and emotional commitment have a positive (+) effect on morale. Third, satisfaction with military meals has a positive effect on emotional commitment. This research has also shown that improvements in SERVQUAL (Responsiveness·Assurance, Tangibles) and Servicescape (Spatial Environment, Spatial Design) improve military service satisfaction and emotional engagement. Military food service SERVQUAL (Responsiveness·Assurance, Tangibles) and Servicescape (Spatial Environment, Space Design) must pay attention to increase military morale.
