  • This study aims to suggest principles of making example sentences when describing grammar items and examines aspects of example sentences presented in Korean integrated textbooks. The requirements of example sentences in grammar descriptions have been mentioned in several preceding research. However, there is little research which focuses particularly on example sentences in grammar descriptions and examines the appropriacy of example sentences presented in Korean integrated textbooks. Therefore, this study sets up five principles to make appropriate example sentences and examine if these principles are in line with example sentences in Korean integrated textbooks published recently. Comprehension and use of grammar items are two significant aspects when making sentences. Thus, example sentences should show meaning, form and pragmatic information unambiguously. The findings show that most textbooks follow the five principles. However, some example sentences do not meet the requirements to be effective examples. In particular, the integrated textbooks need to include more example sentences related to the topic and the goals of the unit considering the role of grammar.

  • This study was conducted for the purpose of providing basic data that aims to develop the clinical practice education program and improve satisfaction for clerkship by evaluating the satisfaction of students who participated in learning using role-play in the clerkship of the department of pediatric dentistry. 85 senior dental students participated in this study. The students were divided into 17 groups and randomly performed role-plays in their role. After each role-play, a questionnaire designed to evaluate students' satisfaction on interest and appropriacy and satisfaction on usefulness towards role-play were completed by 77 students. The mean score of total satisfaction was 3.38 on a 5 point Likert scale. The mean score satisfaction on interest and appropriacy was 3.99 and the mean score satisfaction on usefulness was 3.79. The satisfaction score in the role group of parents was the highest and there was a significant difference in mean scores by the role groups (p < 0.05). Students evaluated the role-play as an interesting and useful educational tool in clerkship. It is necessary to undergo further trials and complement programs to upgrade the quality of dental clerkship.

  • Until now, there were few supports on reading the mathematical expressions except text based expressions, so it is important to provide the reading of the mathematical expressions. Also, there are various of obstacles for people who are not visually impaired when reading the mathematical expressions such as the situation of presbyopia, reading the mathematical expressions in the vehicles, and so on. Therefore, supports for people to read mathematical expressions in various situations are needed. In the previous research, the main goal was to transform the mathematical expressions into Korean text based on Content MathML. In this paper, we expanded the range of the research from a reading disabilities to people who are not reading disabilities. We tested appropriacy of the rules we made to convert the MathML based expressions into speech and defined 3 math-to-speech rules in korean based on levels. We implemented the mathematical expressions by using 3 math-to-speech rules. We took comprehension test to find out whether our math to speech rules are well-defined or not.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the development of mechanical projectile transfer system to prevent musculoskeletal problems in the firing test range. Prior to 2010, the projectile has been transferred from the worktable to the loading device of 155mm K9 fixed-type artillery by manual. Because the amount of firing test has been increased drastically since 2010, two types of mechanical projectile transfer system were developed to prevent musculoskeletal problems. The NIOSH lift equation and the working posture assessment system such as OWAS, RULA and REBA were used to evaluate the appropriacy of working weight and posture by manual transfer of projectile. The configuration and operation procedure of projectile transfer systems which were developed to improve work efficacy and to reduce the burden of manual transferring were described. The improvements were assessed by the number of processes, the tact time and the working posture assessment for operation of this system by comparing to the manual transfer of projectile.

  • Recently, one of countermeasures against aging SOC infrastructures, performance-focused management including the serviceability, functionality, durability, and economics has been changed from the structural safety-focused evaluation has changed into The current inspection and diagnosis for the major SOC facilities in Korea has been carried out by the specific principle of details, and most of them checked by the visual inspection are focused on the repair and rehabilitation of the damaged structures, thus they are the preventive maintenance. However, the performance-focused management should be replaced for the effective and economic maintenance as wells as for the minimization of the damage. In this regard, this study the appropriacy of the current evaluation items about the concrete retaining wall, one of SOC infrastructures as the previous step forward the performance-focused management. In order to deduct the effective evaluation items in order, the entropy, analytic hierachy process (AHP), and promethee analysis were peformed and the results were compared and discussed.

  • The purpose of sewer system is to separate rain water from sewage water. Through this, it is possible to prevent the flood and preserve public water territory. For the past few years, many problems of the sewer system have been solved by the execution of sewer rehabilitation project. However, they still exist in sewer system caused by I/I, which are divided into infiltration and inflow. Infiltration means the rain water and underground water that infiltrate through breakage point on pipes, inflow means the water that flows in through misconnection on pipes. This study shows how the I/I calculation has changed according to the new standardized manual and identifies the I/I difference between the new calculation and the existing one. Through the analysis on the two calculation methods we examined the appropriacy of the new method by comparing it to the old one. The result points out that the new standardized manual is more appropriate than the old in aspect of objectivity and reproducibility(establish standardization), rationality(alteration of inflow unit).

  • Recently the government expands its investment in basic research to overcome the limit of technology catch-up strategy. At this point, Korea's R&D supporting system needs to be evaluated whether it is appropriate to support creative basic research. Therefore, this study approaches to analyze the cases of basic research supporting system about the characteristics of basic research and necessary systematic requirements. This research discussed the necessity for introducing the paradigm of policy management system of basic research. Also it found that the performance of basic research is very important element for the effectiveness of research itself as well as continuous appropriacy of the system.

  • With the development of network and IT technology, people are searching and purchasing items they want, not bounded by places. Therefore, there are various studies on how to solve the scalability problem due to the rapidly increasing data in the recommendation system. In this paper, we propose an item-based collaborative filtering method using Tag weight and a recommendation technique using MapReduce method, which is a distributed parallel processing method. In order to improve speed and efficiency, the proposed method classifies items into categories in the preprocessing and groups according to the number of nodes. In each distributed node, data is processed by going through Map-Reduce step 4 times. In order to recommend better items to users, item tag weight is used in the similarity calculation. The experiment result indicated that the proposed method has been more enhanced the appropriacy compared to item-based method, and run efficiently on the large amounts of data.

  • This study aimed to exploratorily investigate the new roles of libraries in the era of K-MOOC. For this, potential roles were derived and categorized from former researches and practices. And to evaluate the appropriacy of those roles, two expert surveys were conducted. Panel A was comprised of 30 professors who had been running K-MOOC classes and Panel B was comprised of 30 librarians of Universities that had adopted K-MOOC. The result shows that they both agree about distinct roles of library as information provider such as licensing and providing digital contents requested from information users, while technological part, for example, recording video and audio, managing website, and providing open access, was considered inappropriate because those roles were already taken by CTLs. Also, professors agree that information literacy education is required for teachers not just for students as the speed of technological development is too swift and librarians agree that they have to equipped with core competence in preparation for upcoming change by creating added value, establishing closer relationship with various educational and technological institutes, and securing organizational flexibility.
