The variational nodal method for solving the neutron transport equation has evolved over 40 years. Based on a functional form of the Boltzmann neutron transport equation, the method now comprises a complete set of variants that can be employed for different problems. This paper presents an extensive review of the development of the variational nodal method. The emphasis is on summarizing the whole theoretical system rather than validating the methodologies. The paper covers the variational nodal formulation of the Boltzmann neutron transport equation, the Ritz procedure for various application purposes, the derivation of boundary conditions, the extension for adjoint and perturbation calculations, and treatments for anisotropic scattering sources. Acceleration approaches for constructing response matrices and solving the resulting system of algebraic equations are also presented.
In this article the conceptual meaning of expression, equation and identity used in Korean mathematics textbooks and American mathematics textbooks is compared and discussed. For this purpose definitions and examples in several mathematics textbooks which are used in Korean elementary school, the 1st grade of middle school and American middle school are investigated. It is founded out that at first there are some parts that give rise to misunderstanding and then there are differences between the Korean terminologies and their corresponding English counterparts. The definitions of expression, equation and identity are advised to examine in the view of middle mathematics curriculum.
The stresses and deflections in a laminated rectangular plate under thermal vibration are determined by using the moving least squares differential quadrature (MLSDQ) method based on the first order shear deformation theory. The weighting coefficients used in MLSDQ approximation are obtained through a fast computation of the MLS shape functions and their partial derivatives. By using this method, the governing differential equations are transformed into sets of linear homogeneous algebraic equations in terms of the displacement components at each discrete point. Boundary conditions are implemented through discrete grid points by constraining displacements, bending moments and rotations of the plate. Solving this set of algebraic equations yields the displacement components. Then substituting these displacements into the constitutive equation, we obtain the stresses. The approximate solutions for stress and deflection of laminated plate with cross layer under thermal load are obtained. Numerical results show that the MLSDQ method provides rapidly convergent and accurate solutions for calculating the stresses and deflections in a multi-layered plate of cross ply laminate subjected to thermal vibration of sinusoidal temperature including shear deformation with a few grid points.

This paper proposes a algebraic parameter determination of MRA(Model Reference Adaptive Control) controller using block Pulse functions and block Pulse function's differential operation. Generally, adaption is performed by solving differential equations which describe adaptive low for updating controller parameter. The proposes algorithm transforms differential equations into algebraic equation, which can be solved much more easily inn a recursive manner. We believe that proposes methods are very attractive and proper for parameter estimation of MRAC controller on account of its simplicity and computational convergence.

The objective of this paper is to develop a solution method for the differential-algebraic equation(DAE) derived from constrained muti-body dynamic systems. Mechanical systems are often modeled as bodies and joints. Differential equations of motion are formulated for bodies. Since the bodies are connected by joint, the differential variables must satisfy the kinematic constraint equations that come from the joints. Difficulties are arised due to drift of the differential variables off the constraint equations. An optimization method is adopted to correct the drift of the differential variables. To demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method a slider-crank mechanism is analyzed dynamically. Identical results are obtained as these from the commercial program DADS. Dynamic analysis of a High Mobility Multi-purpose Wheeled. Vehicle(HMMWV) is carried out to show the practicalism of the proposed method.
In this paper a new approach to obtain the solution of the linear-quadratic Gaussian control problem for singularly perturbed discrete-time stochastic systems is proposed. The alogorithm proposed is based on exploring the previous results that the exact solution of the global discrete algebraic Riccati equations is found in terms of the reduced-order pure-slow and pure-fast nonsymmetric continuous-time algebraic Riccati equations and, in addition, the optimal global Kalman filter is decomposed into pure-slow and pure-fast local optimal filters both driven by the system measurements and the system optimal control input. It is shown that the optimal linear-quadratic Gaussian control problem for singularly perturbed linear discrete systems takes the complete decomposition and parallelism between pure-slow and pure-fast filters and controllers.

A Haar wavelet based numerical method for solving singularly perturbed linear time invariant system is presented in this paper. The reduced pure slow and pure fast subsystems are obtained by decoupling the singularly perturbed system and differential matrix equations are converted into algebraic Sylvester matrix equations via Haar wavelet technique. The operational matrix of integration and its inverse matrix are utilized to reduce the computational time to the solution of algebraic matrix equations. Finally a numerical example is given to demonstrate the validity and applicability of the proposed method.

The paper proposes a practical meshless method for the free vibration analysis of clamped plates having arbitrary shapes by extending the non-dimensional dynamic influence function (NDIF) method, which was developed by the author in 1999. In the proposed method, the domain and boundary of the plate of interest are discretized using only nodes without elements unlike FEM and the system matrices are obtained by making domain nodes and boundary nodes satisfy the governing differential equation and boundary conditions, respectively. However, since the above system matrices are not square ones, the problem of free vibrations of clamped plates is not reduced to an algebraic eigenvalue problem. An additional theoretical treatment is considered to produce an algebraic eigenvalue problem. It is revealed from case studies that the proposed method is valid and accurate.
This paper presents the closed-form forward kinematics of the 6-6 Stewart platform of planar base and moving platform. Based on algebraic elimination method and with one extra linear sensor, it first derives an 8th-degree univariate equation and then finds tentative solution sets out of which the actual solution is to be selected. In order to provide more exact solution despite the error between measured sensor value and the theoretical one, a correction method is also used. The overall procedure requires so little computation time that it can be efficiently used for realtime applications. In addition, unlike the iterative schemes e.g. Newton-Raphson, the algorithm does not require initial estimates of solution and is free of the problems that it does not converge to actual solution within limited time. The presented method has been implemented in C language and a numerical example is given to confirm the effectiveness and accuracy of the developed algorithm.

This paper introduces the design of a reduced order observer with unknown inputs for the purpose of fault detection and isolation(FDI) in a class of bilinear systems. To Analyze the observer and FDI, this paper uses BPF(block-pulse functions). The operational properties of BPF are much applied to the analysis of bilinear systems. The integral operational matrix BPF converts the form of the differential equation into the algebraic problems.
