Cu-Al-Ni계 금속간화합물의 연소합성 Coating에 미치는 Ball Mill처리의 영향 (The Effect of Ball-milling Energy on Combustion Synthesis Coating of Cu-Al-Ni Based Intermetallics)

  • The possibility of Cu-Al-Ni intermetallic coating on the mild steel through the combustion synthesis has been investigated. In particular, the effect of the ball milling energy on the microstructure of the coating layer was examined to obtain the best coating condition. Experimental results show that Cu-Al-Ni powder compact was explosively synthesized and successfully coated with the steel matrix. It was revealed that the formation of $Cu_9Al_4$ intermetallic decreased with increase in the ball milling energy. This result supports that the high energy ball milling would be effective for obtaining the most suitable microstructure for Cu-Al-Ni coating layer. However, the excessive ball milling energy seems to decrease the bonding strength between the coating layer and the matrix.

  • SiC휘스커를 첨가한 알루미나 분말 기지 복합체의 치밀화에 미치는 상온 반복 압축의 영향을 조사하였다. 반복 압축 응력과 반복 횟수가 증가할수록, 또한 바이어스 압력이 낮을수록 복합체의 초기 성형 밀도가 증가하였으며 가압 및 제하 속도, 반복 속도는 분말의 미끄러짐과 재배열에 큰 영향을 미치지 않음을 알 수 있었다. 상온 반복 압축으로 인한 SiC 휘스커의 파단은 거의 없었으며 휘스커의 배열 방향은 반복 압축 방향에 관계없이 고른 분포를 나타냄으로써 상온 반복 압축 성형이 SiC 휘스커를 첨가한 알루미나 분말 기지 복합체의 초기 성형 밀도를 높일 수 있는 효과적인 방법임을 알 수 있었다.

Characterization of Spray-Dried Yttrium Aluminum Garnet Powder

  • Yttrium aluminum garnet(YAG) powders were synthesized by spray-drying of the hydroxides coprecipitated from a mixture of aqueous solutions of $Al(NO_3)_3.9H_2O \;and\; Y(NO_3)_3.6H_2O$ Phase formation in the powders during heat treatments and their sintering charactristics were investigated. In the powder obtained by washing the hydroxides before spray-drying, a metastable yttrium aluminum hexagonal (YAH) phase was first crystallized and then transformed into YAG as temperature was increased. The formation of YAH was attributed to a deviation in compositions of the particles from the starting composition of YAG. However, the powder prepared without washing step contained a stable yttrium aluminum monoclinic(YAM) phase in addition to YAG due to a large deviation from the starting composition. A powder compact of a single phase YAG was pressureless-sintered for 4 hrs at $1700^{\circ}C$ and the density was 93% of the theoretical density.

  • Characteristics of Al2O3-ZrO2 powders prepared by sol-gel process and their sintering behavior were investigated as a function of calcination temperature. The sol-gel processed powders were calcined at 800, 900, 1000, 1100, 1200$^{\circ}C$, and analyzed by X-ray diffraction technique. Pore size and distribution of green compact of the calcined powders were measured by mercury porosimeter. It is suggested that the optimal temperature of calcination for the sintering of Al2O3-ZrO2 powder prepared by sol-gel process is 1100$^{\circ}C$. In the Al2O3-17vol.% ZrO2 sintered specimen, which was sintered at 1600$^{\circ}C$ for 2hrs in air, 69vol.% tetragonal phse existed.

  • The direct reaction method has been used for the fabrication of Al-Mg/$Al_2O_3$ functionally gradient materials. It was found that the reaction layer of the Al-Mg/$Al_2O_3$ powder compact at $900^{\circ}C$ under air atmosphere led to the formation of reaction layers with varying ceramic phase contents. As the results of experiments by using the TGA system, the characteristics and growth behavior of the reaction layers were affected by the reaction temperature, the gas flow rate, the Mg contents and the $Al_2O_3$ contents.

  • In the present work, Al-$B_4C$ composite powders were fabricated using a mechanical milling process and its milling behaviors and mechanical properties as functions of $B_4C$ sizes ( $100{\mu}m$, 500 nm and 50 nm) and concentrations (1, 3 and 10 wt.%) were investigated. For achieving it, composite powders and their compacts were fabricated using a planetary ball mill machine and magnetic pulse compaction technology. Al-$B_4C$ composite powders represent the most uniform dispersion at a milling speed of 200 rpm and a milling time of 240 minutes. Also, the smaller $B_4C$ particles were presented, the more excellent compositing characteristics are exhibited. In particular, in the case of the 50 nm $B_4C$ added compact, it showed the highest values of compaction density and hardness compared with the conditions of $100{\mu}m$ and 500 nm additions, leading to the enhancement its mechanical properties.

The Effect of the Sintering Additives on the Fabrication and Thermal Conductivity of Porous Sintered RBSN

  • The nitriding and post-sintering behavior of silicon powder compact containing sintering additives of 2.3 wt% and 7 wt% were investigated in this study. Regardless of the liquid phase content, elongated large grains of a typical morphology evolved in the post-sintered specimens. Phase analysis revealed a complete phase transformation into ${\beta}-Si_3N_4$ in both porous systems. Oxynitride second phases (mellilite) precipitated in the latter, while those were free in the former containing less amount of liquid phase. The post-sintering condition that yielded a favorable microstructure for a filter application was achieved when the specimens were soaked at $1800^{\circ}C$ for 2 h. It was found that the thermal conductivity of porous $Si_3N_4$ ceramics is dominated by the porosity more than this factor is influenced by the addition of $Al_2O_3$.

  • 고온자전연소법에 의한 질화알루미늄 합성에 있어서, 반응물(Al) 형상과 희석제(AlN) 입도 등의 형상학적 조건이 반응생성물에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 평균 입경(34$\mu$m)이 같은 두 종류의 Al 분말(입상, 편상)과 평균입경이 다른 4종류의 AM분말을 희석제로 사웅하여 반응 성형체를 준비하였다. 반응성형체의 충진밀도는 이론밀도의 $35\%로 고정하였고, 초기 질소압은 $1\~10MPa$, 희석을은 $0.4\~0.7$로 변화시키면서 반응을 실시하였다. 반응물과 희석제의 입도를 비슷하게 조절함으로써, 상대적으로 질소압이 낮은 1MPa의 조건에서도 순도 $98\% 이상, 입경 수십 $\mu$m의 AlN 합성이 가능함을 확인하였다. 이러한 고순도, 고입경화는 연소파 진행 후, 성형체 내부로 질소가스 투입 용이성의 차이에 의한 현상이라고 판단된다.

  • A single electro-discharge-sintering (EDS) pulse (1.0 kJ/0.7 g), from a $300{\mu}F$ capacitor, was applied to atomized spherical Ti-6Al-4V powder in a low vacuum to produce porous-surfaced implant compacts. A solid core surrounded by a porous layer was formed by a discharge in the middle of the compact. XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) was used to study the surface characteristics of the implant material. C, O, and Ti were the main constituents, with smaller amounts of Al, V, and N. The implant surface was lightly oxidized and was primarily in the form of $TiO_2$ with a small amount of metallic Ti. A lightly etched EDS implant sample showed the surface form of metallic Ti, indicating that EDS breaks down the oxide film of the as-received Ti-6Al-4V powder during the discharge process. The EDS Ti-6Al-4V implant surface also contained small amounts of aluminum oxide in addition to $TiO_2$. However, V detected in the EDS Ti-6Al-4V implant surface, did not contribute to the formation of the oxide film..

다출력 유도가열 공정을 이용한 다공질 6061 알루미늄 합금의 기공 제어 공정 (A Process for the Control of Cell Size of 6061 Al foams by Multi-step Induction Heating Method)

  • Multi-step induction heating process was applied to the powder compact melting technique as a new heating process to achieve pinpoint accuracy, faster cycle time, repeatability, non-contact and energy-efficient heat in a minimal amount of time. The objective of this study is the establishment of the input data diagram of multi step induction heating process for automation of the fabrication process of 6061 Al foams with desired density. At first, proper induction coil was designed to obtain a uniform temperature distribution over the entire cross sectional area of specimen. By using this coil, foaming experiments were performed to investigate the multi-step induction heating conditions such as capacity, temperature and time conditions of each heating and holding step. On the basis of the obtained multi-step induction heating conditions, relationship between final heating temperature and fraction of porosity was investigated.
