  • The immigration procedure at airports is vital to making passenger and cargo transport faster. The rapid procedure of immigration could be an important determining factor when passengers select an air transport company, one that should have high satisfactory in terms of their service level and efficiency. Therefore, the advanced airport makes it easy for customers and their cargo to proceed. The coordination between authorities related to the Korean international airport is not satisfactory for customers. This paper analyzes the factors necessary to enhance the airport immigration procedure with the movement of aircrafts, passengers, cargo, and post, using the CK(Cook and Kress) model of DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis). From this study, the author found that research and development will be needed to improve the immigration procedure, especially on facilities and their operating systems. There are needed, also, performance indicators and a continuous monitoring system.

  • This research focused on such a passenger sample that used to fly between Incheon int'l airport(ICN) and Dubai int'l airport(DXB) using either a national carrier or gulf carriers because the route between ICN and DXB is one of the international air routes with the toughest competition under the global pressure of open air transport market. Based on the results from the empirical research, this paper proposed a competitive advantage which a national carrier must have to cope with global competition under the open sky policies and implications for sustainable strategies of them. National carrier passengers perceived product benefits had a significant positive effect on price reliability in spite of lower price competitiveness. Following the empirical analysis results, it was proven a national carrier should try to improve product benefit sought by passengers to maintain sustainable competitive advantage in the market against foreign airlines.

A Study on the Precursors of Aviation Turbulence via QAR Data Analysis (QAR 데이터 분석을 통한 항공난류 조기 인지 가능성 연구)

  • Although continuous passenger injuries and physical damages are repeated due to the unexpected aviation turbulence encountered during operations, there is still exist the limitation for preventing recurrence of similar events because the lack of real-time information and delay in technological developments regarding various operating conditions and variable weather phenomena. The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the meteorological data of the aviation turbulence occurred and actual flight data extracted from the Quick Access Recorder(QAR) to provide some precursors that the pilot can identify aviation turbulence early by referring thru the flight instrumentation indications. The case applied for this study was recent event, a scheduled flight from Incheon Airport, Korea to Narita Airport, Japan that suddenly encountered turbulence at an altitude of approximately 14,000 feet during approach. According to the Korea Meteorological Administration(KMA)'s Regional Data Assessment and Prediction System(RDAPS) data, it was observed that the strong amount of vorticity in the rear area of jet stream, which existed near Mount Fuji at that time. The QAR data analysis shows significant changes in the aircraft's parameters such as Pitch and Roll angle, Static Air Temperature(SAT), and wind speed and direction in tens of seconds to minutes before encounter the turbulence. If the accumulate reliability of the data in addition and verification of various parameters with continuous analysis of additional cases, it can be the precursors for the pilot's effective and pre-emptive action and conservative prevention measures against aviation turbulence to reduce subsequent passenger injuries in the aviation operations.

A Research on the Relationship between Duty Free' Locations and Sales of its Product Attributes at Airport : a Case of Departure and On-Arrival Duty Free at Incheon International Airport (공항 면세점 위치와 판매품목별 매출액 간 관계성 연구: 인천국제공항 출국장 및 입국장 면세점 사례를 중심으로)

  • On-arrival duty free will prevent Korean outbound passengers from keeping the duty free items they purchased at the departure during their travel. Most Korean tourists have requested the airport authority to install on-arrival duty free since the grand-opening of Incheon int'l airport. Considering the fierce hub airport competition in the North East Asian region, the Korean government's decision to install on-arrival duty free is regarded as a well-timed intervention. The purpose of the research was to analyze sales correlation based on a comparison of sales of both departure and on-arrival duty free and to propose an administrative implication. Compared to business conglomerates running departure duty free, on-arrival duty free operators, who are small or medium companies, have weakness in product composition, marketing, and merchandising capabilities. According to the analysis, outbound passengers, who purchased fashion accessories and leather products at the departure duty free, tended to purchase cosmetics/perfume or liquor on the arrival duty free. Such complementary purchasing behavior of passengers showed there is barely a negative correlation between departure and on-arrival duty free.

A Study on Ways to Improve Hub-Airport Competitiveness Through Forming Economy Zone: Focus on the Incheon International Airport (공항 경제권 형성을 통한 허브 경쟁력 향상 방안에 대한 연구: 인천국제공항을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to find factors that Incheon International Airport should focus on and improve in order to have hub-competitiveness through economic zone centered on airport. Text analytics was conducted on online review written by passengers who used world class transit airport to derive environmental factors. After that, we select 15 major factors among the derived environmental factors based on the previous studies. This study used IPA analysis for experts in aviation field to investigate the importance and performance of the factors. Results showed that performance was evaluated to be lower than importance in all factors, and accessibility(convenience, diversity, cost and time), free economic zone and various shopping facilities were top 3 factors to be specifically improved. This study is meaningful in that it can understand passengers' perceptions by using the advantages of text analysis and surveys method. The result of study can be used to establish policy and strategic directions to solidify the position of hub airports in the future.

Harmonics Analysis and Reduction of Incheon International Airport (인천국제공항 여객터미널의 고조파분석에 의한 저감대책 강구)

  • In this paper, we perform the harmonic filter design for Incheon international airport, especially passenger terminal based on the results of measurement and analysis. Also, we show the waveform of machines which produce harmonics as a harmonic source. For harmonic filter design, we propose the APF(Active Power Filter) and ZSF(Zero Sequence Filter) design. Also, we simulate the filter effects using EDSA package. The results show the effectiveness of the method.

  • 1983년에 중국 정부가 자국민의 해외 여행을 허가한 이래, 중국의 아웃바운드 해외 관광 시장은 비약적으로 발전하였다. 대한민국은 이러한 현상의 최대 수혜 국가 중 하나가 되었으며, 항공운송 분야에 있어 특히 혜택을 보았다. 현재 인천국제공항의 전체 이용객 중 23.9%가 중국인이며, 추후에도 중국여객들이 인천국제공항의 주요한 고객으로 남을 것으로 전망된다. 중국의 광활한 영토와 13억이 넘는 인구를 고려할 때, 중국을 하나의 시장으로만 보는 것이 아니라 여러 지역들이 모인 집합체로 바라볼 필요성이 제기된다. 이렇게 할 시, 각 지역마다 다른 중국여객들이 공항 이용에 있어 보이는 태도와 행동양상의 차이점을 파악하여, 차별화된 서비스 제공의 밑바탕이 될 수 있다. 이를 통하여 중국여객들의 인천국제공항 이용 시 고객 가치와 만족도의 향상에 기여할 수 있다. 본 연구는 중국 정부가 경제, 사회 등의 요소를 고려하여 공인한 방식대로 중국 전체를 다섯 개의 권역으로 분할하여 중국여객들이 인천국제공항 이용에 있어 느끼는 만족도를 조사하고자 한다. 특별히 면세점 이용과 관련된 만족도에 중점을 두고자 한다. 권역별로 지니는 차이점을 분석하여, 권역별로 상이한 서비스 전략을 추진하기 위한 전략적 방향성을 제시한다.

  • Baggage Handling System(BHS) is an important element of ground operation services and the importance is further emphasized as air demand increases and passengers change. If there is a problem with departure baggage handling, the aircraft's gate occupancy time will be longer than the initial plan, resulting in congestion of the anchorage leading to final passenger terminal and mooring and road congestion and arrival or It is delayed until the processing of the baggage of the connecting flight and it can cause an economic loss such as confusion in the operation of the airport. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the perception of service quality of BHS users on public Institutions performance through user satisfaction, user performance, and user loyalty. Analysis results using Structural Equation Model was suggested and its implication was discussed in the conclusion.

  • The primary objective of this paper is to introduce the application of Human-Machine Interface (HMI) and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies in flight operations. These include: self-check-in, baggage handling, airport security and surveillance, airport operations monitoring, In-Flight Entertainment and Connectivity (IFEC), cockpit design, and cabin crew support. This paper investigates the application status and development trends of HMI and AR technologies for airports and aircraft. These technologies can provide more efficient in-flight passenger service and experience by using AR devices. This paper also discusses the developments such as; the Integrated Control Application (ICA) for the IFEC interface, AR flight simulation training program using the fixed-based simulator, and the AR aircraft cabin interior concept test program. These applications present how HMI and AR techniques can be utilized in actual flight operations. The developed programs in this paper can be applied to their purpose within aircraft interiors and services to enhance efficiency, comfort, and experience.

The Effects of Airport Tax Refund System's Innovation Characteristics, Chinese Passenger's Individual Control Beliefs on Receiving Intention

  • 본 연구의 목적은 공항 세금 환급시스템의 혁신적 특성과 중국인 탑승객의 개인 통제신념이 수용 의도에 미치는 영향을 규명하고자 하였다. 본 연구는 계획된 행동이 세금환급을 받으려는 의도에 미치는 영향에 대해 이론적으로 고찰하고 분석하였다. 공항에서 세금환급시스템을 이용한 경험이 있는 중국인 탑승객 343명을 대상으로 자료를 수집하였다. 실증 분석 결과, 시스템 혁신적 특성에서 상대적 이점, 적합성 및 복잡성이 높고, 인식된 위험이 낮을수록, 개인 통제신념에서 행동신념, 규범신념 및 통제신념이 높을수록 이용자의 수용의도가 높은 것으로 판명되었다. 이용자 채택 단계에 따른 수용 의도 간의 차이를 분석한 결과, 초기 수용자 집단이 후기 수용자 집단보다 수용 의도가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이용자의 채택 단계에 따라 수용 의도에 영향을 미치는 요인은 차이가 있었는데, 초기 수용자 집단에서는 시스템 혁신적 특성 중 적합성과 개인 통제신념이 중요한 변수였으며, 후기 수용자 집단에서는 시스템 혁신 특성 중 인식된 위험과 규범신념을 제외한 개인의 통제신념이 중요한 변수로 분석되었다. 따라서 공항 세금 환급시스템에 대한 초기 수용자들에게는 더 많은 확신을 줄 필요가 있으며, 후기 수용자들에게는 지각된 위험을 감소시켜 주어야 할 것이다.
