  • The increasing resistance of head lice Pediculus humanus capitis to many drugs has highlighted the need for new alternatives to control head lice in adults. The effect of two types of extracts (aqueous and alcoholic) of Citrullus colocynthis fruit on adult lice was tested in vitro. The results showed that the alcoholic extract with a concentration of 20% showed similar efficacy in killing adult lice to that of Natroba 9% w/w, with values ranging between 87% to 98% within 18 minutes, followed by a 20% aqueous extract with a 44% to 79% death rate. A 10% concentration of both types of extracts had moderate lethality for lice, while a 5% concentration did not show strong lethality for adult lice. These results revealed significant differences between the control group and those treated with alcoholic and aqueous extract concentrations of C. colocynthis fruits at the probability level p ≤ 0.05.

The subjects were 354 adult learners, who were over 20 years of age. They had a lifelong learning experience in various lifelong education institutes and facilities located in the D provincial areas. The statistical methods of this study were correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis and path analysis. The results showed that the adults' participation motives for lifelong learning had positive effects on the social capital formation, and it had effects on the satisfaction and learning outcomes. Adult learners' satisfaction and learning outcomes had positive effects on the social capital formation. In addition, there were mediating effects between adult learners' participation motives and social capital formation. This study is meaningful for the development of lifelong learning by providing theoretical and practical implications.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the parallel dual mediating effects of positive and negative affects in the relationship between adult attachment and self-compassion of teachers in the early childhood education and care centers. Methods: Two hundred and six teachers participated in the survey who were recruited from kindergarten and child care centers in Seoul and five provinces in South Korea. The data were analyzed by means of frequency, percentages, Cronbach's reliability coefficient and Pearson's correlation using SPSS 25.0 and model 4 provided in The PROCESS macro for SPSS 3.4 version. Results: First, the teachers' degrees of anxiety and avoidance in their adult attachment were below the median scores. Those of positive and negative affects, and their self-compassion were close to the median scores. Second, there were parallel dual mediation effects of positive and negative affects between anxious attachment and self-compassion of teachers. Meanwhile, only positive affect had a mediating effect in the path of teachers' avoidant attachment and self-compassion. Conclusion/Implications: This study confirmed that it is important to raise positive affect by lowering each level of anxiety and avoidance in their attachment for teachers in order to improve their self-compassion. It implied the need to provide support for attachment stability enhancement and to pay attention to improve their self-compassion.

Results: The subjects reported many unmet needs for parental education, and have the highest level of need for education related to breast cancer. Women with daughters have higher level of need for parental education compared to subjects with sons. There was a negative correlation between parenting stress and parental behaviors and between parenting stress and need of parental education. • Most consumers have experienced unexpected consumer problems in the new consumption environment. Accordingly consumer education is very important to prevent consumer problems in advance. Adult consumers don't have many chances to take consumer education with various reasons though they are in a core position in the economy. This study developed an on-line consumer education program for adults in consumerism in the website, www.bestmaker.com/cw. The contents of consumerism were divided into five subfields such as consumer rights, responsibility and roles; consumer law; consumer participation; consumer protection; on-line survey. The on-line consumer education program was given to 164 adult consumers who could use internet, and the contents and the methods of the consumer education were evaluated by the same consumers with an on-line survey. The results of the survey show that those in 30's through 40's and with higher education are more satisfied with the contents and the methods of the on-line consumer education. This study implies that the contents, the methods, and the design of an on-line consumer education need to be consistent each other and well organized altogether.

  • Purpose: this study was to evaluate Cognitive Function Test for the Korean population. Digit Forward (DF), Digit Backward (DB) and Trail Making Test-A(TMT-A) and the translated version of the Trail Making Test-B (TMT-B) were used. The study examined the performance of Korean normal adult population whose age ranged from 20 to over 80. It was predicted that performances of the Korean population would be different from that of the United States population due primarily to their differences in language, and education. Method: Normal Korean adults at the Daejeon Metropolitan City and Chungchung Province (N=298) participated in this study. Seven age scores were evaluated; 20~29, 30~39, 40~49, 50~59, 60~69, 70~79, & >80s. The effects of age, gender, and years of education was examined, which yielded significant age and education effects. The scores were further specified accordingly in terms of years of education (0, 1~6, 7~12, 13~16, & >17), and gender. Result: As the age increased cognitive function score decreased. As the years of education increased, cognitive function scores increased. There was no difference in cognitive function scores according to gender. Age and year of education had significant effects on cognitive function and explained 52-58% of variants of each test. Conclusion: The data of the cognitive function tests are expected to be utilized for research purposes such as basic and clinical studies, as well as practical purpose such as cognitive assessment for traumatic brain injury, stroke, and elderly and nursing education for assessment tools.

  • Havruta is the best teaching and learning method for developing the process of thinking, and it is a method of education centered on a range of student activities. This study examined the effects of adult learning nursing education using the Havruta learning method on the critical thinking disposition, learning commitment, and learning satisfaction. Data collection was carried out from September to December, 2017 in 96 second grade nursing college students attending a university in U city. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, ${\chi}^2-test$, t-test, and two-way repeated ANOVA using the SPSS WIN 23.0 program. The critical thinking disposition, learning commitment, and learning satisfaction were similar in the experimental group, who performed the adult nursing education using the Havruta learning method, and the control group. On the other hand, after the adult nursing education using the Havruta learning method, the critical thinking tendency (md=.14, p=.045), learning commitment (md=.27, p=.025), learning satisfaction (md=.30, p=.031) increased significantly. Therefore, adult nursing education using the Havruta learning method is an effective program to improve the critical thinking disposition, learning commitment, and learning satisfaction of nursing college students.
