  • Recently, as the research of effective resource management for supporting of various next generation internet service, the admission control mechanisms using the dynamic provisioning methods in differentiated service networks are studied. However, even though admission control mechanism is applied to the network, there exits the unfairness of call blocking probability among the different bandwidth requested services. In this paper, we propose the new admission control policy heuristic algorithm that provides fairness of call blocking probability between the large bandwidth requested service and the small bandwidth requested service. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm provides not only blocking probability fairness but also high bandwidth utilization.

  • There have been a number of researches on real-time packet scheduling based on EDF algorithm to support end-to-end delay bound guarantees for real-time traffic transmission. However, EDF-based packet scheduler could not guarantee the real-time requirements of real-time traffic if there exist non-real-time traffic. In this paper, we propose a new admission control algorithm and packet scheduling scheme considering non-real-time traffic in the real -time packet scheduler based on EDF policy. Proposed admission control algorithm has pseudo-polynomial time complexity, but we show through simulation that it can be used with little run-time overhead.

  • It is essential to guarantee a handoff dropping probability below a predetermined threshold for wireless mobile networks. Previous studies have proposed admission control policies for integrated voice/data traffic in wireless mobile networks. However, since QoS has been considered only in terms of CDP (Call Dropping Probability), the result has been a serious CBP (Call Blocking Probability) unfairness problem between voice and data traffic. In this paper, we suggest a new admission control policy that treats integrated voice and data traffic fairly while maintaining the CDP constraint. For underprivileged data traffic, which requires more bandwidth units than voice traffic, the packet is placed in a queue when there are no available resources in the base station, instead of being immediately rejected. Furthermore, we have adapted the biased coin method concept to adjust unfairness in terms of CBP. We analyzed the system model of a cell using both a two-dimensional continuous-time Markov chain and the Gauss-Seidel method. Numerical results demonstrate that our CAC (Call Admission Control) scheme successfully achieves CBP fairness for voice and data traffic.

  • To provide reliable differentiated service for internet clients, many studies on differentiated service are widely done. According to the types of the request of the clients in cluster-based web systems, SLA (Service Level Agreement) between service provider and the clients is considered. In this Paper, we study primary-backup web switch in the web systems that distribute the request of clients to each of web servers and also study performance isolation and admission control schemes of heterogeneous web systems which distinguish the servers into each different function domains. We analyze the availability, the response time and the performance of admission control through various simulated experiments on the proposed web systems.

  • The growth of the World Wide Web and web-based applications is creating demand for high performance web servers to offer better throughput and shorter user-perceived latency. This demand leads to widely used cluster-based web servers in the Internet infrastructure. Load balancing algorithms play an important role in boosting the performance of cluster web servers. Previous load balancing algorithms suffer a significant performance drop under dynamic and database-driven workloads. We propose an estimation-based load balancing algorithm with admission control for cluster-based web servers. Because it is difficult to accurately determine the load of web servers, we propose an approximate policy. The algorithm classifies requests based on their service times and tracks the number of outstanding requests from each class in each web server node to dynamically estimate each web server load state. The available capacity of each web server is then computed and used for the load balancing and admission control decisions. The implementation results confirm that the proposed scheme improves both the mean response time and the throughput of clusters compared to rival load balancing algorithms and prevents clusters being overloaded even when request rates are beyond the cluster capacity.

  • Multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) networks require dynamic flow admission control to guarantee end-to-end quality of service (QoS) for each Internet protocol (IP) traffic flow. In this paper, we propose to tackle the joint routing and admission control problem for the IP traffic flows in MPLS networks without rerouting already admitted flows. We propose two mathematical programming models for this problem. The first model includes end-to-end delay constraints and the second one, end-to-end packet loss constraints. These end-to-end QoS constraints are imposed not only for the new traffic flow, but also for all already admitted flows in the network. The objective function of both models is to minimize the end-to-end delay for the new flow. Numerical results show that considering end-to-end delay (or packet loss) constraints for all flows has a small impact on the flow blocking rate. Moreover, we reduces significantly the mean end-to-end delay (or the mean packet loss rate) and the proposed approach is able to make its decision within 250 msec.

  • In cognitive radio systems, secondary users, unlicensed users, can use primary users' spectrum to increase spectrum efficiency. At that time, the systems must satisfy primary users' QoS. When secondary users use cognitive radio systems, secondary users communication can be terminated, because of satisfying primary users' QoS. However, secondary users' communication terminating is not good for both secondary users and whole systems. So, cognitive radio systems need an efficient algorithm for secondary users of admission control and keeping connections. In this paper, we present an algorithm which consist of two part, admission control and connections control.

  • The method of connection admission control is presented by using the equations related with traffic classes for real-time connection admission control. without assuming the cell arrival processes in the multi-level structure of ATM traffic control. The equations related with traffic classes are obtained by 3 or 4 of first order inequalities from the admissible ranges of connection considering the expected total instantaneous demand to guarantee the required quality of services of each class.

  • Connection admission decision in ATM networks requires decision made in real time using fast algorithm. It is difficult to construct a model of the multiplexed traffic and thus, approximation of the traffic load is necessary. In this paper, we propose a measurement-based dynamic CAC(Connection admission Control) in ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) networks, which observes current traffic by the moving window and set the window size to the value which is computed from the measured cell loss amount. It is based on the measurements of the traffic load over an admission period that is load enough to reflect the current traffic behavior instead of analytic modeling. And, the dynamic reallocation of bandwidth for each class leads to effective bandwidth utilization. The performance of proposed method is analyzed through computer simulation. The performance of proposed method is analyzed by using SIMAN simulation package and FORTRAN language. As can be seen in the simulation result, cell loss performance and bandwidth utilization have been increased.

  • In this paper, we propose and the call admission control mechanism that can improve the capacity of the wireless system for the non-uniform traffic load distribution based intelligent information in multiple cellular CDMA environment. The number of mobile stations that can be served simultaneously in a base station is limited by the amount of total interference received in CDMA system. Further, the average number of mobile stations in each cell may not be uniformly distributed. In this paper, considering this factors, the call admission control mechanism using the effective bandwidth concept is adapted to improve the system capacity of non-uniform traffic load distribution based intelligent information. Thus, the bandwidth for a new call can be varied dynamically for reducing the blocking rate of new calls and the dropping rate of handoff calls. The suggested call admission control mechanism is experimented through simulation by dynamically assigning the bandwidth to new and handoff calls. The simulation results show that the proposed call admission control mechanism can accommodate more mobile stations than the other methods in multiple cellular CDMA environment.
