EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES OF SCUFFING MECHANISM IN OIL LUBRICATED PISTON-RING/CYLINDER SLIDING CONTACTS

  • Experiments have been conducted to investigate scuffing mechanism in oil lubricated piston-ring /cylinder sliding contacts. Samples were extracted from actual components to simulate the real contact geometry and other influencing conditions. A standard test machine. with some modifications, has been used for the investigation of the effects of surface temperature load and sliding velocity. preliminary tests were carried out to find the critical temperature of scuffing using gradient temperature under a constant load, reciprocating frequency and stroke. The experimental and analytical results show that a transition from lubricated contact to adhesion, accompanied by the phenomena such as material transfer between the two sliding surfaces, local contact welding and temperature rise, and sharp increase in friction coefficient, appears to contribute to the final failure of scuffing.

유한요소해석을 이용한 현장 덧씌우기 콘크리트의 부착강도 평가 방법 제안 (Proposal of Bond Strength Evaluation Method for Overlay Concrete at Field)

  • Significant improvements in bond strength between new and existing concrete can be achieved through the modification of the new concrete by latex modification. But, no test method has been adopted as a standard to measure the bond strength between the concrete used to repair and the substrate being repaired. The performance of old and the new concrete construction defends upon band strength between old and the new concrete. Current adhesion strength measurement method is inaccurate method that ignore effect of stress concentration by shape of specimens. Therefore, this research calculates stress concentration coefficient using finite element analysis and direction tensile strength test (pull-off test). The result shows that the required core depth is 2.5 cm. Elastic modulus and overlay thickness do not influence in stress concentration.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop eco-friendly internal material of acrylic emulsion mortars using light-weight aggregate carrier which contains pyroligneous liquid. Four types of light-weight aggregates (vermiculite, perlite, charcoal, zeolite) that are widely used in building materials are selected and the properties such as adhesion, water absorption coefficient, antibiosis, crack and impact resistance are evaluated in accordance with KS F 4715. As a result, the properties of acrylic emulsion mortars using light-weight aggregate carrier are satisfied with KS requirements. The antibiosis is improved with increasing zeolite light-weight carrier content.

  • The development and maintenance of a sound bond are an essential requirements of concrete repair and replacement. The bond property of a bonded overlay to its substrate concrete during the lifetime is one of the most important performance requirements which should be quantified. A standard or a verified bond strength measurement method is required at field for screening, selecting materials and quality control for overlay or repair materials. This study compares the nipple pipe direct tensile test, flexural adhesion test, and core pull-off test with their test results. Substantial differences in the failure stresses of three test methods were attributed to their different geometries and loading conditions. From these comparison and investigation, core pull-off test was relatively good because the coefficient of variation values were about 2%. It would be suitable for use in-situ because of its simplicity and accuracy.

High-Q factor ZnO-based Film Bulk Acoustic Resonator Devices

  • In this paper, we studied a ZnO-based film bulk acoustic resonator (FBAR) device fabricated on a specially designed multi-layerd Bragg reflector part. Very thin chromium adhesion layers (0,03um thick) were additionally deposited to improve the quality of the Bragg reflector and some thermal treatments were performed to improve the resonant characteristics of the device. At the operating frequency of ${\sim}2.7GHz$, excellent resonant characteristics were observed in terms of return loss and quality factor, and effective electromechanical coupling coefficient. These findings are expected to be highly promising and effective for improving the performance of the FBAR devices at high frequency.

  • Metal nanohoneycomb structures were fabricated by E-beam evaporation and a two-step anodization process in phosphoric acid. Their tribological properties of adhesion and friction were investigated by AFM in relation to the pore size of the nanohoneycomb structures. Variations of the adhesive force are not found with pore size, but formation of the pore greatly reduces the adhesive force compared to the absence of pore structure. The coefficient of friction increased nonlinearly with pore size, due to surface undulation around the pore. Tribological properties do not differ greatly between the original nanohoneycomb structure and the metal nanohoneycomb structure.

  • This paper describes on the electrical and physical charateristics thin-film type Pt-RTD\\`s on Si wafers, in which MgO thin-films were used as medium layer in order to improve adhesion of Pt thin-films to SiO$_2$ layer. The MgO medium layer had the properties of improving Pt adhesion to SiO$_2$ and insulation without chemical reaction to Pt thin-films and the resistivity of Pt thin-films was improved. In the analysis of properties of Pt-RTD, TCR value had 3927 ppm/$^{\circ}C$ and liner in the temperature range of room temperature to 40$0^{\circ}C$

피니싱 처리 이후 알카자이트 수복재의 표면거칠기와 미생물 부착 (Surface Roughness and Microbial Adhesion After Finishing of Alkasite Restorative Material)

  • 이 연구는 새롭게 개발된 알카자이트 재료인 Cention N에 finishing처리를 한뒤에 표면 거칠기와 박테리아 부착에 대하여 조사하고자 함이다. 레진강화형 글래스아이오노머와 컴포짓트 레진, 알카자이트 재료를 원통형의 디스크 형태로 제작하였다(n = 48). 이 후 대조군과 3가지 카바이드버, 미세다이아몬드 버, 화이트스톤버의 피니싱 버에 따른 4가지 하위군으로 분류하였다. 표면 거칠기는 atomic force microscope으로 조사하였으며 표면관찰은 scanning electron microscope을 이용하여 진행하였다. 우식원성 미생물인 streptococcus mutans의 시편 부착을 위하여 CDC biofilm reactor를 사용하여 바이오필름을 배양한후 집락형성단위를 측정하였다. 레진과 Cention N의 아무처리 하지 않은 컨트롤 군의 표면 거칠기는 통계적으로 유의하게 피니싱 처리된 시편들보다 거칠었다. 하지만 표면 거칠기와 미생물 부착사이의 상관관계는 매우 약했다(PCC = 0.13). RMGI와 Cention N은 레진시편에 비해 미생물 부착이 적게 일어났다. Cention N은 피니싱만으로도 임상적으로 허용되는 수준인 0.2 ㎛ 이하의 거칠기를 보였으며 이온 방출 성질로 미생물 부착이 레진과 비교시 적은 것을 확인할수 있었다.

B2O3첨가에 따른 V2O5-P2O5-ZnO계 유리의 물성 및 구조와 봉착특성 (Effect of B2O3 Addition on Thermal, Structure, and Sealing Properties V2O5-P2O5-ZnO Glass)

  • We have investigated a glass-forming region of $V_2O_5-P_2O_5-ZnO$ glass and the effects of the addition of modifier oxides ($B_2O_3$) to the glass systems as a sealing material to improve the adhesion between the glass frits and a soda lime substrate. Thermal properties and coefficient of thermal expansion were measured using a differential scanning calorimetry, a dilatometer and a hot stage microscopy. Structural changes and interfacial reactions between the glass substrate and the glass frit after sintering (at $400^{\circ}C$ for 1 h) were measured by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and scanning electron microscope. The results showed that the adhesion strength increases as the content of $B_2O_3$ at 5 mol% increases because of changes in the structural properties. It seems that the glass structures change with $B_2O_3$, and the $Si^{4+}$ ions from the substrate are diffused to the sealing glass. From these results, we could understand the mechanism of strengthening of the adhesion of soda lime silica substrate by ion-diffusion from the substrate to the glass.
