  • Revision of KS, Korean Standards, is currently actively discussed. It is just the time for a new world class standards under the new system with WTO, World Trade Organization. This paper is a part of “Researchs on the Standards in the Building Acoustic Field”, as one of KS revision projects. The aim of this study is to define the requirements for measuring the reverberation time and other major room acoustical parameters.

  • This article reviews recent developments in the emerging field of cellular-level biomedical ultrasonics with the specific focus on the mechanics of ultrasound-cell interaction. Due to the nature of the field at its relative infancy, the review poses more questions than it provides answers. Discussed are topics such as the basic structure of a biological cell, the origin of cell's elasticity, a theoretical framework for ultrasound-cell interaction, and shape deformation of cells and its measurement, Some interesting problems for future study are proposed.

  • In this paper we study the convergence behavior of the least mean fourth(LMF) algorithm where the error raised to the power of four is minimized for a multiple sinusoidal input and Gaussian measurement noise. Here we newly obtain the convergence equation for the sum of the mean of the squared weight errors, which indicates that the transient behavior can differ depending on the relative sizes of the Gaussian noise and the convergence constant. It should be noted that no similar results can be expected from the previous analysis by Walach and Widrow/sup [1]/.

  • There are two general techniques to observe particle movements in fluid. One is the acoustic time domain correlation technique and another is the frequency domain Doppler-shift techniques. Both techniques were reviewed and mentioned their some merits and demerits in ocean wave and current observation. Some possible application of acoustic time domain correlation technique in ocean wind wave measurement was discussed.

  • In Korean traditional music, the frequency of Hwang-Jong tone is not known precisely, to say nothing of the temperament. So we measured the frequency of Hwang-Jong tone in solo pieces for the woodwind instruments such as daegum, piri and danso. According to the results of the measurement, the frequency of Hwang-Jong tone is about 328Hz, which is closer to the frequency of E$_3$(330Hz) than that of E$^b_3$(311Hz). This result is different from the existing theory that the frequency of Hwang-Jong tone is close to that of E$^b_3$.

  • Electromagnet ic wave falling on solid surface acts on the medium with a force. This force brings about a redistribution of surface charges and the surface potential is varied. By measuring this potential variations, the surface electrical properties on conductors, semicionductors and dielectrics can be tested. In this paper, two dimensional photocharge voltage on the $LiNbO_3$ wafer induced by He-Ne laser beam, the temperature characteristics and the capacitive coupling test structure for the photocharge voltage measurement for the dielectrical materials are shown.

  • In this paper a simple measurement technique for mechanical-acoustic transfer functions is proposed . The mechanical-acoustic transfer functions, generally , are measured through mechanical excitations ; impact hammers or shakers. Recently , by virtue of vibro-acoustical reciprocity principle, they are measured through acoustic excitations : loudspeakers. This kind of test needs to measure the volume velocity , the radiation characteristics of a sound source. Because the volume velocity of the sound source is changed by driving signal , it is difficult to measure it. However , the new method in this paper needs not to measure the volume velocity of a sound source by combination of mechanical and acoustic excitations. Moreover, this method has the methodological advantages, such as usage of a general loudspeaker for the reciprocal excitation, no sptatial limitations for measurements of mechanical-acoustic transfer functions.

  • This pater is a study on the measurement of solid-borne sound propagation in buildings. The purpose of this paper is to present the data needed for comfortable building enevironment. Solid-Borne sound in apartment building was measured at the source of sound and at many receiving locations in building. Dispersion of the sound level was analyzed to understand noises level at different locations. Graphic method as well as polynomial regression techniques were employed. For this experiment, we made use of the TAPPING MACHINE according to the standard rules of ISO as a impulse exciter, and the measurement was carried out after the building has been all completed. Noticeable noise reductions were observed as the distance from the source to the receiving location increases.
