  • More and more residential and mobile users are requiring access to the Internet. This paper presents an architecture of the network solution for cost-effective Internet/intranet access between users and Network Service Providers(NSPs). It also presents a functional architecture of Internet access router in the integrated access node system. The proposed Internet access router provides the functionality that users select any of a number of NSPs and mutiple user PPP calls are multiplexed over each secure tunnel between the Internet access router and NSP.

  • We demonstrate an optical asynchronous transfer mode/wavelength division multiplexing (OATM/WDM) optical access network, using a router based on an optical header decoder to conduct next-generation communications. The router consists of a decoder or hardware analysis processing of the header bit and switches. The router in the OATM/WDM optical access network is a key technology by which to satisfy subscribers’ requests, including reliability, cost efficiency, high speed, large-capacity transmission, and elevated information security. In this study, we carry out experiments in which a header decoder delivers to 16 and 32 subscribers with a single wavelength in the router. These experiments confirm the decoder’s successful operation via hardware using 4 and 5 header bits. We propose that this system may significantly contribute toward the realization of an optical access network that provides high-quality service to subscribers of next-generation communications.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient Care of Address (CoA) configuration scheme for network mobility support in the railroad environment. Mobile routers in a train visit each access router in the fixed order. Such regular movement characteristic of a train enables a current subnet access router to inform the next subnet access router of the mobile routers' interface identifiers before the mobile routers move to the next subnet access router. So, the next subnet access router can make care of addresses for the mobile routers in advance. The numerical results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the stateless scheme with respect to CoA configuration time.

  • An ACL(: Access List), a list that determines network access, is used for the security of the network. An ACL if applied to a interface of router can filter particular packets. Also it can block or allow the access of certain unauthorized IPs or ports, based on the source address, destination address, and TCP/UDP port. This paper presents a simulation case to verify the effect of a router-based network applying Standard ACL or Extended ACL. The network was created through designing topology and then making a common virtual network using a Packet Tracer.

  • In the MIPv6 network, when mobile nodes move into new newtwork, they need to find the new access router and points(AR/AP) for the newtwork. Unless they are not connected to authorized AR/APs, they can be exposed to a lot of attacks. In this paper we propose a protocol to authenticate AR/AR and MN each other. This protocol is based on the public key scheme which is used in the SEcure Neighbor Discovery(SEND) protocol.

  • Recently hospitals have divided into many divisions, specialized the medical service, and shown organic cooperation, all to provide patients with various and high quality medical service. They have also showed improvement in information protection by introducing an information protection system to regulate the access to patients' medical and personal information. The purpose of this paper is to present a case study to implement of a limited hospital medical information system that can regulate the access to medical information. For this, a router-based virtual network applying an ACL(: Access Control List) to regulate access to information was made using a packet tracer.

  • Multi-homing mobile router separates network for user connection and network for internet access using various interfaces for internet access. This paper proposes a load balancing metric in order that multi-network mobile router distributes its traffic to one of several heterogeneous network interfaces. To evaluate the performance of the load balancing metric, experiments on traffic balancing is performed on real commercial networks were used in Korea and Hong Kong.

  • The wireless LAN environment using Mobile IP is constructed and managed to be connected with Ethernet based wired networks. However, there have been many problems with wireless networks using Mobile IP. Some important facts on network performance have not been considered when introducing wireless LAN by Mobile IP to wired networks. In this paper, we suggest schemes which can solve problems on Handover latency caused by the asymmetrical connectivity of the Access Router at applying the HMIPv6 and on binding updates due to the MN frequent movement. Our proposed schemes can reduce network latency by using the HMIPv6 architecture with a virtual router layer, and reduce communication overhead by interchanging information of the MN movement between routers. Our schemes are expected to assist in constructing a more real and effective wireless LAN environment based on the HMIPv6 and FMIP.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient seamless handoff scheme to minimize packet loss and unnecessary packets on the Internet using the peculiar mobility characteristics of public vehicles such as trains. MR (Mobile Router) in a train visits each AR (Access Router) in the fixed order. As the MR detects reachability to the NAR (Next Access Router) on the new link, the PAR (Previous Access Router) can directly deliver packets from MR's HA (Home Agent) to the NAR according to the HML (Handoff Mobile router List). Then. the NAR buffers them until the MR finishes L3 (Layer 3) handoff procedure with the NAR. Therefore, our scheme can support a seamless handoff without the packet loss and unnecessary packets on the Internet. The result of our performance evaluation has shown that the proposed scheme could provide excellent performance, compared with the NEMO basic support protocol and the Bi-casting protocol.
