  • An ATM switch is the basic component of an ATM network, and its functioning is to switch incoming cells arriving at an input port to the output port associated with an appropriate virtual path. In case of an ATM switch with buffer sharing scheme, the performance analysis is very difficult due to the interactions between the address queues. In this paper, the influences of the degree of traffic burstiness and some traffic routing properties are investigated by using the simulation. Also, some cell access strategies including priority access and cell dropping are compared in terms of cell loss probability.

  • This paper proposes a new Asynchronous Transfer Mode(ATM) switch architecture for the Broadband ISDN. The proposed switch has the architecture to prohibit the out-of-sequence in shared buffer switch system with being fixed buffer size in the out-buffered large scale ATM Switch System. then in this paper proposes cell resequence algorithm to decrease the out-of-sequence problem. also, we studied the out-of-sequence problem that was occurred by the cell transfer delay and the cell overflow due to the fixed buffer size when cell resequenced and we propose to implement optimal ACFIFO(Address Counter First In First Out) buffer size which has the minimized cell loss.

  • A wide class of networking application services, such as video teleconferencing, VOD, LAN bridging, and distributed data processing require multipoint communications. The essential component inteh network to achieve this is a multicast packet switch which is capable of packet replication and switching. In this paper, we propose an efficient mukticast addressing scheme using the smallest number of routing bits which is deterministic lower bound. The new scheme performs all point-to-multipoint connection in radix-2 tree ATM switch like banyan network. Also, we provide a simple radix-2 switch block diagram for achieving our algorithm. And we investigate several addressing schemes for implementing multicasting in radix-r tree ATM switch and evaluate several performance factors, such as complexity of the additional header bits, requirement of the internal speedup and complexity of the major hardware.

  • In this paper, we propose a multicast ATM switch that reduces traffic load by using the method of storing unicast cells and multicast cells separately according to the type of the cells. The switch is based on a shared memory type to reduce HOL blocking and deadlock. In the proposed switch, we use a control scheme that schedules stored cells to output ports to reduce the loss of traffic cells and to output effectively. We analyzed the Performance of the proposed switch through the computer simulation and the results have shown the effectiveness of the switch.

  • A 640Gb/s high-speed ATM switching system that is based on the technologies of advanced MCM, 0.25um CMOS and optical WDM interconnection is fabricated for future N-ISDN services. A 40 layer, 160mm$\times$114mm ceramic MCM realizes the basic ATM switch module with 80Gbps throughput. The basic unit ATM switch module with 80Gb/s throughput. The basic unit ATM switch MCM consists of in 8 chip advanced 0.25um CMOS VLSI and 32 chip I/O Bipolar VLSIs. The MCM employs an 40 layer, very thin layer ceramic MCM and a uniquely structured closed loop type liquid colling system is adopted to cope with the MCM's high-power dissipation of 230w. The MCM is Mounted on a 32cm$\times$50cm mother board. A three stage ATM switch is realized by optical WDM interconnection between the high-performance MCM.

  • This paper considers a TMN-based management system for the management of public ATM switching networks using a four-level hierarchical structure consisting of one network management system, several element management systems, and several agent-ATM switch pairs. Using Jackson's queuing model, we analyze the effects of one TMN command on the performance of the component ATM switch in processing local calls. The TMN command considered is the permanent virtual call connection. We analyze four performance measures of ATM switches- utilization, mean queue length and mean waiting time for the processor directly interfacing with the subscriber lines and trunks, and the call setup delay of the ATM switch- and compare the results with those from Jackson's queuing model.

  • Recently, the development of ATM switch, a backbone system of BISDN, is receiving worldwide study. Because the development of large communication equipments like a switching system need a lot of time and cost, the performance evaluation by menas of simulation is needed for the higher efficiency of development before actual implementation. So, a general and objective input environment is necessary for proper simulation. The main purpose of this paper is to offer a traffic generator which can provide such input environment as a file for computer simulation of ATM switch. To offer diverse input environment of ATM switch, we select parameters, and implement ATM traffic generator with software technology. Basides, a program to verify the propriety of ATM traffic generator in also proposed. It is expected that the proposed ATM traffic generator will offer diverse input environment for computer simulation to evaluate new ATM switching system, not influenced by any system structure.

  • Several guidelines can be developed for a satellite-based ATM switch. One of the most important of these is that the switch must provide a requirement for CLRs on the order of 10-10 to meet the QoS of high- performance traffic and avoid costly retransmissions. In this paper, the proposed approach shows not only the better traffic performance but also requires the little switching elements and buffers compared with original Knockout switch and other scheduling algorithm. As a result, the complexity becomes reduced. Simulation results indicate that proposed approach shows excellent cell loss ratio compared with existing switch architecture. Also, iii performance can be approached to the cell loss ratio, which is requirement for the satellite system, as window size increases. An(1 it shows thats low complexity is induced. Therefore, the proposed approach is appropriate for satellite on-board ATM switch architecture.

  • ATM has recently received much attention because of its high capacity, its bandwidth scalability, and its ability to support multiservice traffic. However, ATM is connection oriented whereas the vast majority of modern data networking protocols are connectionless. The alternative to support current service on ATM will be a router with attached switching hardware that has the ability to cache routing decisions. In this paper, we described the router using a switch and simulated the performance. From the results of the simulation, the routing delay was decreased as the number of flow channels. Cell-delay was shortest at 30,000 cell-time when the keeping time of a flow channel was. The line utilization was rapidly decrease when a flow-setup time is 20 30 cell-time. The results of this simulation could be applied to predict the performance of the router using ATM switch.
