  • In the present computational approach, thermal buckling and frequency characteristics of a doubly curved laminated nanopanel with the aid of Two-Dimensional Generalized Differential Quadrature Method (2D-GDQM) and Nonlocal Strain Gradient Theory (NSGT) are investigated. Additionally, the temperature changes along the thickness direction nonlinearly. The novelty of the current study is in considering the effects of laminated composite and thermal in addition of size effect on frequency, thermal buckling, and dynamic deflections of the laminated nanopanel. The acquired numerical and analytical results are compared by each other to validate the results. The results demonstrate that some geometrical and physical parameters, have noticeable effects on the frequency and pre-thermal buckling behavior of the doubly curved open cylindrical laminated nanopanel. The favorable suggestion of this survey is that for designing the laminated nano-sized structure should pay special attention to size-dependent parameters because nonlocal and length scale parameters have an important role in the static and dynamic behaviors of the laminated nanopanel.

  • In this paper, stability analysis of sandwich toroidal shell segments (TSSs) with carbon nanotube (CNT)-reinforced face sheets featuring various types of auxetic cores, surrounded by elastic foundations under radial pressure is presented. Two distinct types of auxetic structures are considered for the core, including re-entrant auxetic structure and graphene origami (GOri)-enabled auxetic structure. The nonlinear stability equilibrium equations of the longitudinally shallow shells are formulated using the von Karman shell theory, in conjunction with Stein and McElman approximation while considering Winkler-Pasternak's elastic foundation to simulate the interaction between the shell and elastic foundation. The Galerkin method is employed to derive the nonlinear stability responses of the shells. The numerical investigations show the influences of various types of auxetic-core layers, CNT-reinforced face sheets, as well as elastic foundation on the stability of sandwich shells.

  • Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) effect deals with the enhancement of the Raman scattering intensity by molecules in the presence of a nanostructured metallic surface. The first observation of surface-enhanced Raman spectra was in 1974, when Fleischmann and his group at the University of Southampton, reported the first high-quality Raman spectra of monolayer-adsorbed pyridine on an electrochemically roughened Ag electrode surface. Over the last thirty years, it has developed into a versatile spectroscopic and analytical technique due to the rapid and explosive progress of nanoscience and nanotechnology. This review article describes the recent development in field of surface-enhanced Raman scattering research, especially fabrication of various SERS active substrates, mechanism of SERS effect and its various applications in both surface sciences and analytical sciences.

  • We report dry thermal development of negative resist polystyrene with low molecular weight. When developed on a hotplate at $350^{\circ}C$ for 30 min, polystyrene showed reasonable high contrast and resolution (30 nm half-pitch), but low sensitivity. Resist sensitivity was greatly improved at lower development temperatures, though at the cost of reduced contrast. In addition, we observed the thickness reduction due to thermal development was higher for larger remaining film thickness, implying the thermal development process is not just a surface process and the more volatile chains below the top surface may diffuse to the surface and get evaporated.

  • So far, all reviews and control approaches of spin relaxation have been done on lateral single electron quantum dots. In such structures, many efforts have been done, in order to eliminate spin-lattice relaxation, to obtain equal Rashba and linear Dresselhaus parameters. But, ratio of these parameters can be adjustable up to 0.7 in a material like GaAs under high-electric field magnitudes. In this article we have proposed a single electron QD structure, where confinements in all of three directions are considered to be almost identical. In this case the effect of cubic Dresselhaus interaction will have a significant amount, which undermines the linear effect of Dresselhaus while it was destructive in lateral QDs. Then it enhances the ratio of the Rashba and Dresselhaus parameters in the proposed structure as much as required and decreases the spin states up and down mixing and the deviation angle from the net spin-down As a result to the least possible value.

  • A low-cost, green and reproducible citric acid assisted synthesis of nanocrystalline $Al_{0.5}Ag_{0.5}TiO_3$ (n-AAT) powder is reported. X-ray, FTIR, energy dispersive X-ray, transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy analyses are performed to ascertain the formation of n-AAT. X-ray diffraction data analysis indicated the formation of monoclinic structure. Spherical shaped particles having the sizes of 3-15 nm are found. The mechanism of nano-transformation for the soft-chemical synthesis of n-AAT has been explained using simple organic chemistry rules and nucleation and growth theory. Dielectric study revealed that AAT ceramic might be a suitable candidate for capacitor applications.

  • This paper deals with free vibration analysis of nanosize rings and arches with consideration of surface effects. The Gurtin-Murdach model is employed for incorporating the surface effect parameters including surface density, while the small scale effect is taken into consideration based on nonlocal elasticity theory of Eringen. An analytical Navier solution is presented to solve the governing equations of motions. Comparison between results of the present work and those available in the literature shows the accuracy of this method. It is explicitly shown that the vibration characteristics of the curved nanosize beams are significantly influenced by the surface density effects. Moreover, it is shown that by increasing the nonlocal parameter, the influence of surface density reduce to zero, and the natural frequency reaches its classical value. Numerical results are presented to serve as benchmarks for future analyses of nanosize rings and arches.

  • A semi-empirical approach to model the temperature effects on I-V characteristics of Carbon Nanotube Field Effect Transistors (CNTFETs) is proposed. The model includes two thermal parameters describing CNTFET behaviour in terms of saturation drain current and threshold voltage, whose values are extracted from the simulated and trans-characteristics of the device in different temperature conditions. Our results are compared with those of a numerical model online available, obtaining I-V characteristics comparable but with a lower CPU calculation time.

  • We examine the total optical dielectric function (TODF) of impurity doped GaAs quantum dot (QD) from the viewpoint of anisotropy, position-dependent effective mass (PDEM) and position dependent dielectric screening function (PDDSF), both in presence and absence of noise. The dopant impurity potential is Gaussian in nature and noise employed is Gaussian white noise that has been applied to the doped system via two different modes; additive and multiplicative. A change from fixed effective mass and fixed dielectric constant to those which depend on the dopant coordinate manifestly affects TODF. Presence of noise and also its mode of application bring about more rich subtlety in the observed TODF profiles. The findings indicate promising scope of harnessing the TODF of doped QD systems through expedient control of site of dopant incorporation and application of noise in desired mode.
