The development of automatic system using multimodel in hazard analysis (위험성 분석에서의 다중모델을 이용한 자동화 시스템의 개발)

  • There are many kinds of complicated equipments in the chemical plants. So the chemical plants have high possibility of accidents. Hazard analysis is one of the basic tasks to ensure the safety of chemical plants. However, it has many shortcomings. To overcome the problems, there have been attempts to automate this work by utilizing computer technology, particularly knowledge-based technique. However, many of the past approaches are lacking in properties: safeguard consideration, accident diversity, cause and consequence diversity, pathway leading to accidents, and various hazard analysis reasoning. Therefore, in this study, three analysis algorithms were proposed using multimodel approach, and a hazard analysis system, AHA, was developed on G2. The case study was solved with AHA system successfully.

Analysis of the Mechanical Behavior of Bellows for Electromagnetic Control Valve (전자기 제어 밸브를 위한 벨로우즈의 기계적 거동에 관한 연구)

  • The behavior of a bellows for an electromagnetic control valve was investigated. The bellows consists of an outer metal bellows, inner spring, and metal caps. The bellows needs to have sensitive and precise motion against external loads and pressure loads in order to control the position of the valve accurately. The spring constant of the inner spring and load-displacement curve of the bellows set were measured using a test machine. The inner spring showed a linear relation between load and displacement. The bellows set showed small stiffness at small displacement, and then the stiffness slightly increased upon subsequent displacement. Based on the measured data, finite element analysis was performed. Axisymmetric conditions were applied, and shell elements were used. The effective material properties of the outer bellows material were extracted. Additional analysis was performed, and the behavior of the bellows was analyzed using the finite element model.

A Study on Improvement of High Resolution Regional NWP by Applying Ocean Mixed Layer Model (해양혼합층 모델 적용을 통한 고해상도 지역예측모델 성능개선에 대한 연구)

  • Ocean mixed layer (OML) depth affects diurnal cycle of sea surface temperature (SST) induced by change of solar radiation absorption and heat budget in ocean. The diurnal SST variation can lead to convection over the ocean, which can impact on localized precipitation both over coastal and inland. In this study, we investigate the OML characteristics affecting the diurnal cycle of SST for the Korean Peninsula and surrounding areas. To analyze OML characteristics, HYCOM oceanic mixed layer depth (MLD) and wind field at 10 m from ERA-interim during 2008~2016 are used. In the winter, MLD is deeply formed when the strong wind field is located on perpendicular to continental slope over deep seafloor areas. Besides, cooling SST-induced vertical mixing in OML is reinforced by dry cold air originated from Siberia. The OML in summer is shallowly distributed about 20 m. In order to estimate the impact of OML model in high resolution NWP model, four experimental simulations are performed. At this time, the prognostic scheme of skin SST is applied in NWP to simulate diurnal SST. The simulation results show that CNTL (off-OML) overestimates diurnal cycle of SST, while EXPs (on-OML) indicate similar results to observations. The prediction performance for precipitation of EXPs shows improvement compared with CNTL over coastal as well as inland. This results suggest that the application of the OML model in summer season can contribute to improving the prediction for performance of SST and precipitation over coastal area and inland.

Monitoring of the Volcanic Ash Using Satellite Observation and Trajectory Analysis Model (인공위성 자료와 궤적분석 모델을 이용한 화산재 모니터링)

  • Satellite remote sensing data have been valuable tool for volcanic ash monitoring. In this study, we present the results of application of satellite remote sensing data for monitoring of volcanic ash for three major volcanic eruption cases (2008 Chait$\acute{e}$n, 2010 Eyjafjallaj$\ddot{o}$kull, and 2011 Shinmoedake volcanoes). Volcanic ash detection products based on the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectro-radiometer (MODIS) observation data using infrared brightness temperature difference technique were compared to the forward air mass trajectory analysis by the HYbrid Single-Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory (HYSPLIT) model. There was good correlation between MODIS volcanic ash image and trajectory lines after the volcanic eruptions, which support the feasibility of using the integration of satellite observed and model derived data for volcanic ash forecasting.

Development and Validation of Exposure Models for Construction Industry: Tier 1 Model (건설업 유해화학물질 노출 모델의 개발 및 검증: Tier-1 노출 모델)

  • Objectives: The major objective of this study was to develop and validate a tier 1 exposure model utilizing worker exposure monitoring data and characteristics of worker activities routinely performed at construction sites, in order to estimate worker exposures without sampling. Methods: The Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals(REACH) system of the European Union(EU) allows the usage of exposure models for anticipating chemical exposure of manufacturing workers and consumers. Several exposure models have been developed such as Advanced REACH Tools(ART). The ART model is based on structured subjective assessment model. Using the same framework, a tier 1 exposure model has been developed. Worker activities at construction sites have been analyzed and modifying factors have been assigned for each activity. Korean Occupational Safety and Health Agency(KOSHA) accrued work exposure monitoring data for the last 10 years, which were retrieved and converted into exposure scores. A separate set of sampling data were collected to validate the developed exposure model. These algorithm have been realized on Excel spreadsheet for convenience and easy access. Results: The correlation coefficient of the developed model between exposure scores and monitoring data was 0.36, which is smaller than those of EU models(0.6~0.7). One of the main reasons explaining the discrepancy is poor description on worker activities in KOSHA database. Conclusions: The developed tier 1 exposure model can help industrial hygienists judge whether or not air sampling is required or not.

A Study on Cooling Effect and Power Control of a Mini Ozonizer (소형 오존발생장치의 전력제어와 냉각효과에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, a control method of a mini ozone generator is proposed, and also a cooling technique is described which is cooling down the flowing air gap into a silent discharger to $2^{\circ}C$ to generate ozone of high density and diffusing power. As the digital control system for this method, a double feedback loop is designed which detects the voltage and current of equivalent capacitor of the discharger and compensates for the poor power waveform caused by the noise at high discharging frequency. During the plant modeling of this system, computing time factor is considered as a unique parameter of the power system to improve the transient responses with regard to fluctuating load and to replenish the computing time delay of the controller. Through the experiment, sinusoidal input current for discharger can be acquired and all the effectiveness of this accurate control system over unstable ozone discharger are proved.

Axial magnetic gear with a closed magnetic path (자기 폐회로를 갖는 축형 마그네틱 기어)

  • A magnetic shutter gear is a device that transfers mechanical power by synchronizing the magnetic field between permanent magnet layers facing circumferentially through a harmonic modulator. However, magnetic gears uses many rare-earth permanent magnets to guarantee comparable torque density to that of mechanical reducer. Hence, we propose a novel axial magnetic gear with a dramatically reduced number of permanent magnets and a closed magnetic path. The torque of the system was compared to that of an existing shutter gear through a harmonic analysis of the air-gap magnetic field. The modulator thickness and open ratio were considered as the primary design parameters, and the cogging effect was analyzed for variation of the reduction ratio. A dynamic model between the high-speed side and low-speed side was derived, and position control was performed for a constructed hardware implementation.

Investigating the Effect of Open Skies Policies (항공자유화의 추진이 미치는 영향에 대한 연구)

  • As open skies polices have permeated all over the world, Korea's basic direction of aviation policy is promoting the benefit of the public and the national carriers' competitive power by establishing open skies agreements between the countries. The open skies' directions should be promoted by considering the relationships of various attributes such as governments, airlines, and passengers. To decide the right directions of open skies, we should investigate the economic effects of open skies policies. This research develops a simulation model to analyze the dynamic characteristics of open skies. By using the developed model, this research analyzes the economic effects of open skies. The results showed that open skies have direct impacts on not only frequencies, airfare, consumer welfare but also air transport industry and regional economy. Therefore, it is necessary to take suitable aviation policy that can increase the effects of open skies.

Operability of Composting Facilities by Modeling (모델링에 의한 퇴비화 시설의 운전성에 관한 연구)

  • Composting facilities are operated with air and moisture control. Composting effects on two operating factors was analysed changing aeration rate with and without water addition to maintain the optimun moisture level. Though the composting facilties are provided with appropriate surroundings for compositing, operating temperature is set for decomposition rate. Accordingly control of decomposition phases was analysed by modeling the process of high and low decomposition phases with various operating temperature. A composting model of "The Library of Compost Engineering Software" developed by Roger T. Haug Inc. in U.S.A. was applied in modeling. As result of this study, operation with optimum moisture has more sensitive temperature to aeration fluctuation and lead to higher reaction rate with lower aeration than operation with poor moisture. Decomposition rate in composting facilities depend on slow decomposition phase because high rate decomposing substances already have been decomposed before entire process is not completed. In order to enhance decomposition rate of organics, effective decomposition in slow decomposition phase needs to be focused.

A Study on Installed Performance Analysis Modelling for a Helicopter Propulsion System Considering Intake Loss (흡입구 손실을 고려한 헬리콥터 추진시스템의 장착성능 해석 모델에 관한 연구)

  • In this work the realistic install performance analysis of a helicopter was performed together with power extraction enabling to operate auxiliary system as well as intake pressure loss, loss due to bleed air, etc. which must be considered in practical propulsion system's performance modelling to be installed to the airframe. The pressure loss occurring in intake was estimated from the intake performance map with relationships of Mach Number and pressure loss. In order to evaluate the proposed installed performance model, the experimental data for comparison must be needed when mounted in propulsion system. However because of lack of accessibility to such real data at the moment, the alternative way was made through comparison that the analysis results by the proposed model were compared with a wellknown commercial program GASTURB's analysis results. The validity of the proposed installed performance model was consequently confirmed because its average deferences from the GASTURB's results were within 0.5%.
