Effects of Storytelling in Advertising on Consumers' Empathy

  • Differentiated positioning becomes increasingly difficult when brand salience weakens. Also, the daily increase in new media use and information load has led to a social climate that regards advertising stimuli as spamming. For these reasons, the focus of advertisement-related communication is shifting from persuading consumers through the direct delivery of information to an emphasis on appealing to their emotions using matching stimuli to enhance persuasion effects. Recently, both academia and industry have increasingly shown an interest in storytelling methods that can generate positive emotional responses and attitude changes by arousing consumers' narrative processing. The purpose of storytelling is to elicit consumers' emotional experience to meet the objectives of advertisement producers. Therefore, the most important requirement for storytelling in advertising is that it evokes consumers' sympathy for the main character in the advertisement. This does not involve advertisements directly persuading consumers, but rather, consumers themselves finding an answer through the advertisement's story. Thus, consumers have an indirect experience regarding the product features and usage through empathy with the advertisement's main character. In this study, we took the results of a precedent study as the starting point, according to which consumers' emotional response can be altered depending on the storytelling methods adopted for storytelling ads. Previous studies have reported that drama-type and vignette-type storytelling methods have a considerably different impact on the emotional responses of advertising audiences, due to their different structural characteristics. Thus, this study aims to verify that emotional response aroused by different types of advertisement storytelling (drama ads vs. vignette ads) can be controlled by the socio-psychological gender difference of advertising audiences and that the interaction effects between the socio-psychological gender differences of the audience and the gender stereotype of emotions to which advertisements appeal can exert an influence on emotional responses to types of storytelling in advertising. To achieve this, an experiment was conducted employing a between-group design consisting of 2 (storytelling type: drama ads vs. vignette ads) × 2 (socio-psychological gender of the audience: masculinity vs. femininity) × 2 (advertising appeal emotion type: male stereotype emotion vs. female stereotype emotion). The experiment revealed that the femininity group displayed a strong and consistent empathy for drama ads regardless of whether the ads appealed to masculine or feminine emotions, whereas the masculinity group displayed a stronger empathy for drama ads appealing to the emotional types matching its own gender as well as for vignette ads. The theoretical contribution of this study is significant in that it sheds light on the controllability of the audiences' emotional responses to advertisement storytelling depending on their socio-psychological gender and gender stereotype of emotions appealed to through advertising. Specifically, its considerable practical contribution consists in easing unnecessary creative constraints by comprehensively analyzing essential advertising strategic factors such as the target consumers' gender and the objective of the advertisement, in contrast to the oversimplified view of previous studies that considered emotional responses to storytelling ads were determined by the different types of production techniques used. This study revealed that emotional response to advertisement storytelling varies depending on the target gender of and emotion type appealed to by the advertisement. This suggests that an understanding of the targeted gender is necessary prior to producing an advertisement and that in deciding on an advertisement storytelling type, strategic attention should be directed to the advertisement's appeal concept or emotion type. Thus, it is safe to use drama-type storytelling that expresses masculine emotions (ex. fun, happy, encouraged) when the advertisement target, like Bacchus, includes both men and women. For brands and advertisements targeting only women (ex. female clothes), it is more effective to use a drama-type storytelling method that expresses feminine emotions (lovely, romantic, sad). The drama method can be still more effective than the vignette when women are the main target and a masculine concept-based creative is to be produced. However, when male consumers are targeted and the brand concept or advertisement concept is focused on feminine emotions (ex. romantic), vignette ads can more effectively induce empathy than drama ads.

구강보호장치의 재료적인 특성이 하악골 충격 시악골 및 두부에 미치는 영향에 관한 유한요소분석 (FEM Analysis of the Effects of Mouth guard material properties on the Head and Brain under Mandibular Impact)

  • 연구목적: 본 연구의 목적은 하악골 충격 시 구강보호장치의 재료적 성질에 따른 악골과 두부에 미치는 영향을 조사하는 것이다. 연구재료 및 방법: 경질과 연질의 서로 다른 성질을 가지는 구강보호장치를 두부외상이나 뇌질환 병력이 없고 정상교합과 자연치열을 가진 한국 성인 여성에게 제작하고, CT를 이용하여 악골과 두부의 3차원 유한요소모델을 제작하였다. 이 유한요소모델은 두개골, 뇌, 상악골, 하악골, 관절원판, 치아와 구강보호장치를 포함하며 407,825개의 elements와 82,138개의 node로 구성되어 있다. 0.1초동안 하악골 3부위에서 800 N으로 사선 방향의 힘을 가하였을 때 두 가지 재료에 따른 상악 치아, 상악골 및 두개골의 응력분포를 평가하였고 동일한 조건하에서 두 재료에 따른 뇌의 변위량을 비교하였다. 결과: 이 연구를 통해 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 상악치아에서 유효응력 값을 비교하였을 때 연질의 구강보호장치가 경질의 구강보호 장치보다 응력값이 유의차 있게 작게 나타났다 (P < .05). 2. 상악골과 두개골에서 응력값을 비교하였을 때 연질의 구강보호장치가 경질의 구강보호장치보다 응력값이 유의차 있게 작게 나타났다 (P < .05). 3. 경질의 구강보호장치에서 연질의 구강보호장치보다 상악치아 및 상악골과 두개골에 더 많은 응력집중부위를 보였다. 4. 경질의 구강보호장치와 연질의 구강보호장치 간에 하악 충격 시 뇌의 변위량은 연질의 구강보호장치 쪽이 크게 나타났으나 유의차는 없었다. 본 연구를 통하여 악골 충격 시에 경질 및 연질 구강보호장치가 상악골과 두개골에서의 응력분포에 미치는 양상을 알 수 있었지만, 아직도 이의 상관관계를 모두 파악하기에는 불충분한 점이 많으리라 생각되며, 스포츠 외상에 따른 구강보호장치의 재료에 따른 상관관계에 대하여 보다 더 많은 연구가 필요할 것으로 사료된다.

분리막/다공 전극형 전기분해 조합공정을 이용한 하.폐수의 고도처리 (Advanced Treatment of Sewage and Wastewater Using an Integrated Membrane Separation by Porous Electrode-typed Electrolysis)

  • 본 연구에서는 생활오수, 산업폐수, 축산폐수 등에서 발생하는 질산성화합물 및 난분해성 화합물을 효과적으로 처리하기 위해 막분리법과 다공 전극형 전기분해법을 조합한 하 폐수의 고도처리 기술을 제안하였고 제안 시스템의 효율성을 검토하였다. 제안하는 시스템은 활성슬러지 공정, 막분리 공정, 다공 전극형 전기분해공정의 3단계로 구성하였다. 본 연구에서 구성되는 막분리 공정은 부유물질을 제거해줌으로써 전기분해공정의 부하를 최소화할 수 있는 역할을 담당할 수 있게 하여 시스템을 안정하게 운전할 수 있도록 하였다. 전기분해 하이브리드 공정에 있어서는 다공성 전극으로 구성함으로써 비표면적의 확대로 인한 전극의 효율성을 높였다. 아울러 외부전압을 인가함에 따라 처리제의 공급 없이 장치에 유입된 물을 분해시킴으로써 산화 환원 반응을 유도하였다. 즉 중간체로서 수소 자유전자 라디칼과 산소원자 라디칼이 발생되어 난분해성 유기물을 산화 분해하는 역할을 담당하도록 하였다. 이는 전극 내에서 발생하는 중간체를 폐용질의 분해에 사용하기 때문에 친환경적 처리공법이었다. 실험결과들은 제안공정이 활성슬러지공법에 비하여 우수한 공정임을 보여 주었다. SS제거율은 제안공정, 막분리공정, 활성슬러지 단독공정에서 각각 약 100%, 약 100%, 약 90%였고 COD 제거효율은 제안공정 약 92%, 막분리공정 약 84%, 활성슬러지 단독공정 약 75%였으며 T-N의 제거효율은 제안공정 약 88%, 막분리공정 약 67% 활성슬러지 단독공정 약 58%였다. 이결과는 SS의 제거에 있어서 막분리 하이브리드 공정만으로도 부유물질이 충분히 제거됨을 나타내고 있었다. COD의 제거에 있어서 막분리 하이브리드 공정은 SS분의 제거를 통한 COD와 SS이외의 유기물질이 소량제거 되었음을 보였고 전기분해 하이브리드 공정에 있어서는 유기물질의 산화반응을 통한 분해로 높은 제거효율을 보였다. T-N의 제거에 있어서는 막분리 하이브리드 공정은 SS분에 포함된 부분과 소량의 유기물에 포함된 부분이 제거되고 있는 반면 전기분해 공정에 있어서는 유기물질의 산화분해반응으로 인한 높은 제거효율을 나타내고 있었다.

파력발전장치 설계를 위한후포 연안의 파랑 분석 및 스펙트럼 추정 (Wave Analysis and Spectrum Estimation for the Optimal Design of the Wave Energy Converter in the Hupo Coastal Sea)

  • 파력변환장치에는 여러 가지 형식이 있으며 지점흡수식이 가장 많이 연구되고 있다. 하지만, 국내외적으로 진동형 전력부이 형식의 설계를 위한 계통적 실측자료 분석 예는 찾기가 어렵다. 본 연구는 권 등(2010)에 의해 제안된 지점흡수식인 공진형 파동에너지 추출시스템에 작용하는 파랑외력을 산정하고자 한다. 본 연구는 경북 동해안에 위치한 후 포항 북방파제 전면수역에서 수압식 파고계를 이용하여 약 3년동안 관측한 자료(2002년 5월 1일~2005년 3월 29일)를 대상으로 시계열 스펙트럼을 분석하였다. 분석결과, 월별주기변동과 파고변동이 뚜렷하게 나타나며 월별 파력이 년 간 불균등하게 분포함을 알았다. 상시파랑의 평균 파형경사는 풍파영역인 0.02-0.04보다 작은 0.01이였다. 년 중 파의 평균주기의 최빈값은 5.31 sec 이며 본 주기에 해당하는 파고 중 최빈 파고는 0.32m이다. 첨두 주기의 발생확률은 이산형(bi-modal)으로 나타나며 4.47 sec와 6.78 sec에서 mode값을 보인다. 설계주기는 이러한 4개의 값으로부터 선택할 수 있다. 파고는 1m 이하가 약 95%를 차지하고 있다. 본 연구를 통하여 파력이 미약한 해역에서는 공진형 파력 시스템이 필요하며 파력의 월별 불균등 분포를 극복하기 위한 최적설계가 전력생산단지(Wave Energy Farm) 형성을 위한 주요한 과제임을 알았다. 본 연구는 상시파랑의 평균스펙트럼에 대하여 표준스펙트럼으로 표현이 불가능하여 3개의 매개변수로 표현이 가능한 새로운 스펙트럼형을 제안하였으며 파력부이에 의한 전력생산 예측과 피로해석을 위한 기본 자료를 제공할 수 있다.

반복 하중이 Full veneer crown의 유지력에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (THE EFFECT OF CYCLIC LOADING ON THE RETENTIVE STRENGTH OF FULL VENEER CROWNS)

  • Dislodgement of a crown or extension bridge and the loosening of a retainer of a bridge is a serious clinical problem in fixed restoration. Generally these problems are considered to be associated with deformation of the restoration. During biting, the restoration is subjected to complex forces and deforms considerably within the limit of its elasticity. Deformation of the restoration under the occlusal force induces excessive stress in the cement film, which then leads to the cement fracture. Such a fracture may eventually cause loss of the restoration. Because most of the past retention tests for full veneer crown were done without fatigue loading, they were not exactly simulating intraoral environment. And the purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of cyclic cantilever loading on the retentive strength of full veneer crowns depending on different type of cements and taper of prepared abutment. Steel dies with $8^{\circ}\;or\;16^{\circ}$ convergence angle were fabricated through milling and crowns with the same method. These dies and crowns were divided into 8 groups. Group 1 : $16^{\circ}$ taper die, cementation with zinc phosphate cement, without loading Group 2 : $16^{\circ}$ taper die, cementation with zinc phosphate cement, with loading Group 3 : $8^{\circ}$ taper die, cementation with zinc phosphate cement, without loading Group 4 : $8^{\circ}$ taper die, cementation with zinc phosphate cement, with loading Group 5 : $16^{\circ}$ taper die, cementation with Panavia 21, without loading Group 6 : $16^{\circ}$ taper die, cementation with Panavia 21, with loading Group 7 : $8^{\circ}$ taper die, cementation with Panavia 21 without loading Group 8 : $8^{\circ}$ taper die, cementation with Panavia 21, with loading After checking the fit of die and crown, the luting surface of dies and inner surface of crowns were air-abraded for 10 seconds. The crowns were cemented to the dies, with cements mixed according to the manufacturer's recommendations. A static load of 5kg was then applied for 10 minutes with static loading device. Twenty-four hours later, group 1, 3, 5, 7 were only thermocycled, group 2, 4, 6, 8 were subjected to cyclic loading after thermocycling. Retentive tests were performed on the Instron machine. From the finding of this study, the following conclusions were obtained 1. Panavia 21 showed significantly higher retentive strength than zinc phosphate cement for all groups (p<0.05). 2. There was a significant difference in the retentive strength between $8^{\circ}\;and\;16^{\circ}$ taper for zinc phosphate cement(p<0.05), but no significant difference for Panavia 21 (p>0.05). 3. Cyclic loading significantly decreased the retentive strength for all groups(p<0.05). 4. For zinc phosphate cement, there was 35% reduction of the retentive strength after loading in the $16^{\circ}$ taper die, 25% in the $8^{\circ}$ taper die, and for Panavia 21, 21% in the $16^{\circ}$ taper die, 18% in the $8^{\circ}$ taper die.

코핑 디자인과 시멘트에 따른 지르코니아 도재관의 파절 저항성 (Fracture resistance and marginal fidelity of zirconia crown according to the coping design and the cement type)

  • 연구 목적: 본 연구는 지르코니아 코핑의 다양한 디자인과 시멘트 종류에 따른 지르코니아 도재관의 파절 저항성과 변연 적합도를 평가하고자 하였다. 연구 재료 및 방법: CAD/CAM system (Everest, KAVO Dental GmbH, Biberach, Germany)을 이용하여, 다양한 두께를 가진 지르코니아 코핑을 디자인하고 제작하였다. 80개의 코핑을 디자인에 따라 20개씩 4개의 그룹으로 분류하였으며, 각 그룹은 다시 시멘트 종류에 따라 시편을 10개씩 나누어 2개의 소그룹으로 분류하였다. Group I은 전체적으로 균일하게 0.3 mm로, group II는 협면과 협측 교합면은 0.3 mm, 설면과 설측 교합면을 0.6 mm, group III은전체0.6 mm 균일하게, Group IV는 협면과 협측 교합면은 0.6 mm 설면과 설측 교합면을 1.0 mm로 디자인 하였다. Putty index를 이용해 같은 크기와 형태의 지르코니아 도재관을 축성 후, 완성하였다. 미세 경도측정기의 현미경 (Matsuzawa, MXT-70, Japan)으로 도재관의 변연 적합도를 측정하였고, 만능시험기 (Z020, Zwick, Germany)를 이용하여 cross-head speed를 1 mm/min로 도재관이 파절될 때까지 수직 하중을 가해 파절 저항성을 측정하였다. One-way ANOVA와 two-way ANOVA 를 이용해 그 결과를 비교 분석 하였으며, 사후 검정으로 Duncan's multiple range test ($\alpha$=0.05)를 사용하였다. 결과:1. 코핑 디자인에 따른 변연적합성은 유의한 차이가 있었다 (P<.05). 2. 임시합착제 (Cavitec$^{(R)}$)로 합착한 군에서 코핑 디자인에 따른 지르코니아 도재관의 파절강도는 유의한 차이가 있었다 (P<.05). 3. 영구접착제 (Panavia-$F^{(R)}$)로 접착한 군에서 코핑 디자인에 따른 지르코니아 도재관의 파절강도는 통계학적인 유의차가 없었다 (P>.05). 4. 시멘트의 종류에 따른 동일한 디자인사이에서의 파절강도는 group I과 group II에서 Panavia-F 접착군이 Cavitec$^{(R)}$ 접착군보다 통계학적으로 유의성 있게 높았다 (P<.05). 5. 도재관의 파절 양상은 지르코니아 코핑의 디자인에 따른 차이는 없었으며, 시멘트의 종류에 따라 Cavitec$^{(R)}$ 접착군에서는 시편이 완전 분리되는 전부 파절, Panavia-$F^{(R)}$ 접착군에서는 전장 도재층에서만 파절되는 부분파절이 주로 나타났다. 결론: 제한된 결과이기는 하나 심미성을 위해 가시면을 얇게 하고 강도를 위해 비가시면의 지르코니아 코핑을 두껍게 하는, 즉 기능에 따라 두께를 달리 하는 세라믹 하부구조 디자인이 임상에서 선택적으로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 사료되었다.

산머루 관련 정보수집 및 데이터베이스의 구축 (Data Mining and Construction of Database Concerning Effects of Vitis Genus)

  • The database for the oriental medicine had been existed in documentation in past times and it has been developed to the database type for random accesses in the information society. However, the aspects of the database are not so diversified and the database for the bio herbal material exists in widened type dictionary style. It is a situation that the database which handles the in-depth raw herbal medicines is not sufficient in its quantity and quality. Korean wild grape is a deciduous plant categorized into the Vitaceae and it was found experimentally that it has various medical effects. It is one of the medical materials with higher potentiality of academic study and commercialization recently because it has a bigger possibility to be applied into diverse industrial fields including the medical product for health, food and beauty. We constituted the cooperative system among the Muju cluster business group for Korean mountain wild grapes, Physiology Laboratory in Kyung Hee University Oriental Medicine and Medical Classics Laboratory in Kyung Hee University Oriental Medicine with a view to focusing on such potentiality and a database for Korean wild grapes was made a touchstone for establishing the in-depth database for the single bio medical materials. First of all, the literatures based on the North East Asia in ancient times had been categorized into the classical literature (Korean literature published by government organization, Korean classical literature, Chinese classical literature and classical literature fro Korean and Chinese oriental medicine) and modern literature (Modern literature for oriental medicine, modern literature for domestic and foreign herbal medicine) to cover the eastern and western research records and writings related to Korean wild grapes and the text-mining work has been performed through the cooperation system with the Medical Classics Laboratory in Kyung Hee University Oriental Medicine. First of all, the data for the experiment and theory for Korean wild grape were collected for the Medline database controlled by the Parliament Library of USA to arrange the domestic and foreign theses with topic for Korean wild grapes and the network hyperlink function and down load function were mounted for self-thesis searching function and active view based on the collected data. The thesis searching function provides various auxiliary functions and the searching is available according to the diverse searching/queries such as the name of sub species of Korean wild grape, the logical intersection index for the active ingredients, efficacy and elements. It was constituted for the researchers who design the Korean wild grape study to design of easier experiment. In addition, the data related to the patents for Korean wild grape which were collected from European Patent Office in response to the commercialization possibility and the system available for searching and view was established in the same viewpoint. Perl was used for the query programming and MS-SQL for database establishment and management in the designing of this database. 왕흥사 목탑의 복원 연구 (A Study on the Restoration of the Wangheungsa Temple's Wooden Pagoda)

  • The form of the Wangheungsa Temple's wooden pagoda site is that of the traditional form of the wooden pagodas constructed during the Baekjae Period. Likewise, it is an important ruin for conducting research on the form and type of the wooden pagodas constructed during the Baekjae Period. In particular, the method used for the installation of the central pillar's cornerstone is a new technique. The purpose of this research is to restore the ruin of the Wangheungsa Temple's wooden pagoda of the Baekjae Period that remains at the Wangheungsa Temple's wooden pagoda site. Until now, research conducted on the wooden pagoda took place mostly centered on the Hwangryongsa Temple's wooden pagoda. Meanwhile, the reality concerning Baekjae's wooden pagoda is one in which there were not many parallel cases pertain to the design for restoration. This research paper wants to conduct academic examination of the Wangheungsa Temple's wooden pagoda to organize the intention of design and design process in a simple manner. This research included review of the Baekjae Period's wooden pagoda related ruins and the review of the existing wooden pagoda ruin to analyze the wooden pagoda construction technique of the era. Then, current status of the Wangheungsa Temple's wooden pagoda site is identified to define the characteristics of the wooden pagoda, and to set up the layout format and the measure to estimate the size of the wooden pagoda in order to design each part. Ultimately, techniques and formats used for the restoration of the wooden pagoda were aligned with the wooden pagoda of the Baekjae Period. Basically, conditions that can be traced from the current status of the Wangheungsa Temple site excavation using the primary standards as the standard. Wangheungsa Temple's wooden pagoda was designed into the wooden pagoda of the Baekjae's prosperity phase. The plane was formed into $3{\times}3$ compartments to design into three tier pagoda. The height was decided by factoring in the distance between the East-West corridors, size of the compartment in the middle, and the view that is visible from above the terrace when entering into the waterway. Basically, the origin of the wooden structure format is based on the Goguryeo style, but also the linkage with China's southern regional styles and Japan's ancient wooden pagoda methods was factored in. As for the format of the central pillar, it looks as if the column that was erected after digging the ground was used when setting up the columns in the beginning. During the actual construction work of the wooden pagoda, central pillar looks as if it was erected by setting up the cornerstone on the ground. The reason that the reclaimed part of pillar that use the underground central cornerstone as the support was not utilized, was because the Eccentric Load of the central pillar's cornerstone was factored in the state of the layers of soil piled up one layer at a time that is repeated with the yellow clay and sandy clay and the yellow clay that were formed separately with the $80cm{\times}80cm$ angle at the upper part of the central pillar's cornerstone was factored in as well. Thus, it was presumed that the central pillar was erected in the actual design using the ground style format. It is possible to presume the cases in which the reclaimed part of pillar were used when constructed for the first time, but in which central pillar was installed later on, after the supplementary materials of the underground column is corroded. In this case, however, technique in which soil is piled up one layer at a time to lay down the foundation of a building structure cannot be the method used in that period, and the reclamation cannot fill up using the $80cm{\times}80cm$ angle. Thus, it was presumed that the layers of soil for building structure's foundation was solidified properly on top of the central pillar's cornerstone when the first wooden pagoda construction work was taking place, and that the ground style central pillar was erected on its upper part by placing the cornerstone once again. Wangheungsa Temple's wooden pagoda is significant from the structure development aspect of the Korean wooden pagodas along with the Hwangryongsa Temple's wooden pagoda. Wangheungsa Temple's wooden pagoda construction technique which was developed during the prosperity phase of the Baekjae Period is presumed to have served as a role model for the construction of the Iksan Mireuksa Temple's wooden pagoda and Hwangryongsa Temple's wooden pagoda. With the plan to complement the work further by excavating more, the basic wooden pagoda model was set up for this research. Wangheungsa Temple's wooden pagoda was constructed as at the Baekjae Kingdom wide initiative, and it was the starting point for the construction of superb pagoda using state of the art construction techniques of the era during the Baekjae's prosperous years, amidst the utmost interest of all the Baekjae populace. Starting out from its inherent nature of enshrining Sakyamuni's ashes, it served as the model that represented the unity of all the Baekjae populace and the spirit of the Baekjae people. It interpreted these in the most mature manner on the Korean peninsula at the time.

장거리 (마라톤)선수에서의 전 경기중 심박동수의 변화 (Changes of Heart Rate During Marathon Running)

  • To evaluate the present status of physical fittness of Korean long distance runners, body fat, pulmonary functions, maximal oxygen intake and oxygen debt were measured in 5 elite marathoners (A group), 6 college student runners (B group) and 3 middle school student runners (C group). After laboratory tests, full course marathon running was performed in 2 elite marathoners during which their heart rates were monitored continuously. The results are summerized as follows: 1) Total body fat in all three groups are in the range of 13-15% of their body weight. 2) In all three groups, average values of various pulmonary functions were within the normal limits, but those of tidal volume were higher and respiratory rate were lower in comparison to normal values. These phenomena may represent respiratory adaptations against training. The average resting oxygen consumptions in A,B and C were $322{\pm}23$, $278{\pm}14$ and $287{\pm}16$m1/min, respectively. 3) In all three groups, resting blood pressures were in the normal range, but the resting heart rate was slightly lower in groups A $(56{\pm}3\;beats/min)$ and B $(64{\pm}2\;beats/min)$ and higher in group C $(82{\pm}9\;beats/min)$ in comparison to normal values. These changes in cardiovascular functions in marathoners may also represent adaptive phenomena. 4) During treadmill running the minute ventilation and oxygen consumption of the runners increased lineally with work load in all three groups. When the oxygen consumption was related to heart rate, it appeared to be a exponential function of the heart rate in all three groups. 5) The average maximal heart rates during maximal work were $196{\pm}3$, $191{\pm}3$ and $196{\pm}5\;beats/min$ for groups A,B and C, respectively. Maximal oxygen intakes were $84.2{\pm}3.3\;ml/min/kg$ in group A, $65.2{\pm}1.1\;ml/min/kg$ in group B and $58.7{\pm}0.4\;ml/min/kg$ in group C. 6) In all three groups, oxygen debts and the rates of recovery of heart rate after treadmill running were lower than those of long ditsance runners reported previously. 7) The 40 km running time in 2 elite marathoners was recorded to be $2^{\circ}42'25'$, and their mean speed was 243 m/min (ranged 218 to 274 m/min). The heart rate appeared to increase lineally with running speed, and the total energy expenditure during 40 km running was approximately 1360.2 Calories. From these it can be speculated that if their heart rates were maintained at 166 beats/min during the full course of marathon running, their records would be arround $2^{\circ}15'$. Based on these results, we may suspect that a successful long distance running is, in part, dependent on the economical utilization of one's aerobic capacity.

AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF NEWLY DESIGNED IMPLANT WITH RBM SURFACE IN THE RABBIT TIBIA : RESONANCE FREQUENCY ANALYSIS AND REMOVAL TORQUE STUDY

  • Statement of problem. The importance of fixture design and surface treatment. Purpose. The clinical success of dental in plants is affected by many factors such like as degree of osseointegration, the effective load dispersion for the prostheses, and a lot of attempts have been made to overcome the difficulties. In this study, efforts were made to find the possibility of clinical acceptance of the dental implants of newly designed surface and resorbable blast media surcace. Materials and methods. In this study, two groups of custom-made, screw-shaped implants were prepared. The first with the consisting of Branemark clone design and the other with the new design. These implants were divided into four groups according to the kinds of surface treatment. Four implants($AVANA^{(R)}$, Osstem, Busan, Korea)of each group were installed in twenty rabbits. Group A was consisted of Branemark done implant left as machined, Group B with Branemark clone implants with RBM(Resorbable blast media) surface, Group C with newly designed implants left as machined and Group D with newly designed implants with RBM surface. One of the twenty rabbits died from inflammation and the observation was made for six weeks. Specimens from four groups were observed using scanning electron microscopy with 40, 100, 1000 magnification power and microsurface structures were measured by white-light scanning interferometry for three dimensional surface roughness measurements(Accura $2000^{(R)}$, Intek-Plus, Korea.). Removal torque was measured in 17 rabbits using digital torque gauge(MGT 12R, Mark-10 corp., NY, U.S.A.) immediately after the sacrifice and two rabbits were used for the histologic preparation(EXAKT $310^{(R)}$, Heraeus Kulzer, wehrheim, Germany) of specimens and observed under light microscope. Resonance frequency measurement($Osstell^{(R)}$) was taken with the 19 rabbits at the beginning of the implant fixation and immediately after the sacrifice. Results. Following results were taken from the experiment. 1. The surface of the RBM implants as seen with SEM had rough and irregular pattern with reticular formation compared to that of fumed specimens showing different surface topographies. 2. The newly designed implant with RBM surface had high removal torque value among four groups with no statistical significance. The average removal torque was $49.95{\pm}6.70Ncm$ in Group A, $51.15{\pm}4.40Ncm$ in Group B, $50.78{\pm}9.37Ncm$ in Group C, $51.09{\pm}4.69Ncm$ in Group D. 3. The RFA values were $70.8{\pm}4.3Hz$ in Group A, $71.8{\pm}3.1Hz$ in Group B, $70.9{\pm}2.5Hz$, $72.7{\pm}2.5Hz$ in Group D. Higher values were noted in the groups which had surface treatment compared to the untreated groups with no statistical significance. 4. The results from the histomorphometric evaluation showed a mean percentage of bone-to-implant contact of $45{\pm}0.5%$ in Group A, $55{\pm}3%$ in Group B, $49.5{\pm}0.5%$ in Group C, and $55{\pm}3%$ in Group D. Quite amount of newly formed bone were observed at the surface RBM-treated implants in bone marrow space.
