  • The purpose of this study was to analyze Korean middle school student achievement in environmental science based on the TIMSS 2003 (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study), a student comparison of 46 participating nations. Korea ranked the fourth with a mean score of 554 in environmental science. However, all 3 environment science topics assessed in TIMSS are not included in the Korean science curriculum through 8th grade, even though they are included in most other participating nations' curricula. The average percent correct of items was analyzed according to the main topic, the item type and the cognitive domain. Items that showed differences between the average percent correct of Korea and the international average as well as differences between the average percent correct of boys and girls were further analyzed. Results revealed that Korean students performed better than the international average, especially in 'use and conservation of natural resources', multiple-choice items, and items requiring 'factual knowledge'. Also, male students demonstrated significantly higher achievement than female students. On the other hand, Korean students showed relatively lower achievement in constructed-response items, items that contained content they had not learned in science lessons and items requiring descriptions of the uses and effect of science and technology. Moreover, Korean student lacked understanding about acid rain, global warming, and ozone layer destruction. Korean female students showed relatively lower environmental conceptions and lower performance on items requiring data analysis than Korean male students. On the basis of these results, this study suggested that topics of environmental science be included in the science curriculum and taught in the science classroom to help middle school students more fully comprehend environmental issues.

Students were tested for their knowledge, attitude before, immediately after, 8 weeks after, 16 weeks after BLS eduction. Data were analyzed frequency, percentage, $x^2$-test, t-test and repeated measured ANOVA using SPSS/PC 21.0 statistical program. Knowledge, attitude, performance ability were significantly increased experimental group compared to control group. Knowledge and attitude 8 weeks after, and performance ability were significantly decreased compared to 8 weeks after. And Knowledge, attitude, and performance ability were significant decreased among groups. Therefore, to maintain the knowledge attitude and skills of BLS, appropriate renewal time are necessary in regular school health curriculum.

The subjects were 494 third grade students from middle schools located in Seoul, in order to inquire into their perceptions through the questionnaire. The collected data was analyzed with the descriptive statistics, Pearson Chi-Square, t-test, and one-way ANOVA by SPSS Win ver. 12.0 program. The major findings were as follows: Firstly there were gender differences on the interests for the subject of $\ulcorner$Technology Home Economics$\lrcorner$. The girls who were interested in the subject were much more numerous than the boys, but only in the technology part of it, the boys were more interested than the girls. Secondly the students recognized that the experiment & practice for learning $\ulcorner$Technology Home Economics$\lrcorner$ was important. They, however, recognized that its operation in school was not enough to understand the contents. The higher a student viewed the importance of the experiment & practice on $\ulcorner$Technology Home Economics$\lrcorner$, the higher his perception of its usefulness in real life. • This study was attempted to identify the current status of education of gerontological nursing at nursing colleges across the country and to check whether 19 senior nursing competencies suggested by the American Association of Nursing Colleges are reflected in the courses. The subjects of this study were 198 nursing education institutions accredited by KABONE, and each university's website, department homepage, university handbook, admission-related information, curriculum table, and syllabus were collected and analyzed through an internet search engine. The collected syllabus and the most recent curriculum table of the elderly nursing course were checked and analyzed using SPSS 23.0. The current status of gerontological nursing management was presented by calculating the frequency and percentage, and the educational contents presented in the syllabus were analyzed based on 19 geriatric nursing competencies presented by AACN. 185 institutions (93.43%) operated the geriatric nursing subjects, 98 institutions (49.49%) offered theory subject, and 84 institutions (42.42%) offered both theory and practice. In the case of compulsory majors, 52.92% had the most, 27.84% for the first semester of the 4th year, and 53.54% for 2 credits. As a result of analyzing the lesson plan, communication-related educational competency was included in 40% of cases. As AACN gerontological nursing competency 'effective information provision ability for the elderly', 'ethical and non-coercive decision-making', 'care without restraint', 'safe and effective transition across levels of care' was not included in the education content. In conclusion, gerontological nursing education has been focused on disease, and effective information provision capabilities including communication with the elderly need to be reflected.
