  • For a maneuvering unmanned autonomous helicopter, it is necessary to design a proper controller of each flight mode. In this paper, overall helicopter dynamics is derived and hovering model is linearized and transformed into a state equation form. However, since it is difficult to obtain parameters of stability derivatives in the state equation directly, a linear control model is derived by time-domain parametric system identification method with real flight data of the model helicopter. Then, two different controllers - a linear feedback controller with proportional gains and a robust controller - are designed and their performance is compared. Both proposed controllers show outstanding results by computer simulation. These validated controllers can be used to autonomous flight controller of a real unmanned model helicopter.

  • This paper addresses the derivation of 6-DOF equation of Tanker and Receiver's aircraft for aerial refueling. The new set of nonlinear equations are derived in terms of the relative translational and rotational motion of receiver aircraft respect to the tanker aircraft body frame. Further the wind effect terms due to the tanker's turbulence are included. The derivation of absolute dynamic equation for tanker aircraft written in the inertial frame is calculated from the relative dynamics equations of receiver. The derived relative and absolute equations are implemented the simulation in the same flight conditions to verify the relative motion and compare the trim results by using the MATLAB/SIMULINK program.

  • Autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) are unmanned, underwater vessels that are used to investigate sea environments in the study of oceanography. Docking systems are required to increase the capability of the AUVs, to recharge the batteries, and to transmit data in real time for specific underwater works, such as repented jobs at sea bed. This paper presents a visual :em control system used to dock an AUV into an underwater station. A camera mounted at the now center of the AUV is used to guide the AUV into dock. To create the visual servo control system, this paper derives an optical flow model of a camera, where the projected motions of the image plane are described with the rotational and translational velocities of the AUV. This paper combines the optical flow equation of the camera with the AUVs equation of motion, and deriver a state equation for the visual servo AUV. Further, this paper proposes a discrete-time MIMO controller, minimizing a cost function. The control inputs of the AUV are automatically generated with the projected target position on the CCD plane of the camera and with the AUVs motion. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the modeling and the control law of the visual servo AUV simulations on docking the AUV to a target station are performed with the 6-dof nonlinear equations of REMUS AUV and a CCD camera.

  • The inverse kinematics problem of Stewart platform is straightforward, but no closed form solution of the forward kinematic problem has been presented. Since we need the real-time forward kinematic solution in MIMO control and the motion monitoring of the platform, it is important to acquire the 6 DOF displacements of the platform from measured lengths of six cylinders in small sampling period. Newton-Raphson method a simple algorithm and good convergence, but it takes too long calculation time. So we reduce 6 nonlinear kinematic equations to 3 polynomials using Nairs method and 3 polynomials to 2 polynomials. Then Newton-Raphson method is used to solve 3 polynomials and 2 polynomials respectively. We investigate operation counts and performance of three methods which come from the equation reduction and Newton-Raphson method, and choose the best method.

  • In this paper, we introduce a modified six-degrees-of-freedom parallel-link manipulator, which will be applied to the human vibration experiments. We analyze the inverse kinematics and workspace of this manipulator and comprehend the characteristics of kinematics analyzed. Additionally, solutions of forward kinematics are obtained through the iterative Newton-Raphson method known as one of the most used numerical analysis. Finally, dynamic equation of the manipulator is derived in closed form through the Newton-Euler approach, which will be used for the development of control software.

  • Hydrodynamic analyses of classic and truss spar platforms for floating offshore wind turbines (FOWTs) were performed in the frequency domain, by considering coupling effects of the structure and its mooring system. Based on the Morison equation and Diffraction theory, different wave loads over various frequency ranges and underlying hydrodynamic equations were calculated. Then, Response Amplitude Operators (RAOs) of 6 DOF motions were obtained through the coupled hydrodynamic frequency domain analysis of classic and truss spar-type FOWTs. Truss spar platform had better heave motion performance and less weight than classic spar, while the hydrostatic stability did not show much difference between the two spar platforms.

  • The modified maximum likelihood estimation method is used to estimate the nondimensional aerodynamic derivatives of a single turbo-prop aircraft at a specified flight condition for the best deduction of the dynamic characteristics. In wind axes the six degree of freedom equations are algebraically linearized so that the linear state equation contains aerodynamic derivatives in a state-space form and is used in the maximum likelihood method. The simulated data added with the measurement noise is used as a flight test data which is necessary to the estimation of nondimensional aerodynamic derivatives. It is obtained by implementing the 6-DOF nonlinear flight simulation. In the flight simulation, the effects of several control input types, control deflection amplitudes, and the turbulence intensities on the statistical convergence criteria are also examined and quantitative analysis of the results is discussed.

  • In this paper, we employ a dynamics modeling method for investigating a multi-body dynamics system of semi-submersible autonomous underwater vehicles consisting of a towing vehicle operated near the water surface, a tow cable, and a towfish. The towfish, which is towed by a marine cable for the purposes of exploration or mine hunting, is modeled with a Six-Degree-of-Freedom (6-DOF) equation of motion that reflects its hydrodynamics characteristics. The towing cable, which can experience large displacements and deformations, is modeled using an absolute nodal coordinate formulation. To reflect the hydrodynamic characteristics of the cable during motion, the hydrodynamic force due to added mass and the drag force are imposed. To verify the completeness of the modeling, a few simple numerical simulations were conducted, and the results confirm the physical plausibility of the model.
