The latest researchs show that students have their own preconceptions about scientific phenomena or theory before they learn about it in school. The preconceptions exert a great influence on the teaching and learning science. The purpose of this study is to find out the effect of intelligence and attitude to science on elementary school students were sampled from 4th and 6th grade. Data were obtained by IQ test and the questionnaires on scientific conception and attitude toward science. The result was analyzed by t-test, Correlation and ANOVA in the statistical packages SPSS/PC+. The major findings of this study are as follows : 1. The mean score of scientific conception of elementary school students was 12.89. The mean score of attitude to science was 247.29. The mean score of intelligence was 109.93. 2. The correlation coefficient between scientific conception and intelligence (r=.5098)was relatively high(p<.001). The correlation coefficient between attitude to science and scientific conception(r=.2364) was low(p<.001). 3. Significant difference on science conception was found among grade levels(p<.001). Significant difference on science conception was not found between sex (p>.05). 4. The subjects were divided into 4 groups by intelligence and attitude toward science. These 4 groups show the significant difference (p<.01) in the scientific conception. The groups of high of high intelligence showed high scientific conception.
The purpose of this study was to confirm achievement of goals in science curriculum. The questionnaires related to 'solution' chapter of 5th grade were developed. The subjects were 69 sixth grade elementary school students and four elementary school teachers. 5 students were selected for deep interviews. Each interview was progressed separately, and all the contents of the interviews were recorded. As results, it is revealed that most of the students could not understand basic concepts of 'solution' chapter. The teachers and the students recognized that explanations in the textbook were insufficient. Many inquiry activities were introduced in textbooks, but the students could not acquire inquiry abilities, especially data interpretation and generalization abilities. Inadequate pictures in the textbook also disturbed the students' learning of inquiry ability. Using materials of real life in textbook could not attract the elementary school students' interests effectively.

This study noted that elementary school students were unable to accurately comprehend the principles of moon phase changes and that teachers themselves lacked a full understanding of it as well. Therefore, this study classifies conception types through 161 5th grade respondents and suggests how to change students' conception types through the use of reconstructed teaching and learning materials (that have been developed in existing studies). It verified the changes in the learning achievement of 129 5th grade respondents and analyzed how to think about reconstructed teaching and learning materials through four teacher respondents and four 5th grade respondents from the same study. The results of this study are as follows: First, the conception types on moon phase changes were classified into C and W types. W types consisted of W1, W2, W3, W4, and W5 types. Students had difficulty in understanding the principles of a waxing crescent moon and first quarter phase changes. Second, the group taking classes, which implemented reconstructed teaching and learning materials, showed greater improvement in learning achievement posttest and long-term tests compared to those who have not. Finally, teachers and students reacted positively to the reconstructed teaching and learning materials as shown in exit survey results. In conclusion, it is suggested that teachers are better off utilizing reconstructed teaching and learning materials so that elementary school students may fully understand the principles of moon phase changes rather than just memorizing the results.

The purpose of this study is, targeting 5th and 6th grades mathematically gifted elementary students, to analyze the effect of independent study project learning on self-directed learning ability and mathematical self-efficacy, and based on the results, examine the implications that independent study project learning has in special education for the gifted. In order to solve the study problems, 5th grade mathematically gifted elementary students(40) and 6th grade mathematically gifted elementary students(39) who had passed the selection criteria of D education institute for the gifted and had been receiving special education for the gifted were selected. The study results are as below. First, although self-directed learning ability had no significant difference at p<0.05, it statistically had some differences in averages between pre-test and post-test results. Second, although mathematical self-efficacy had no significant difference at p<0.05, it statistically had some differences in averages between pre-test and post-test results. Third, in the aspects of self-directed learning ability and mathematical self-efficacy, independent study project learning had a more positive effect on 5th grade mathematically gifted elementary students than 6th grade mathematically gifted elementary students. In addition, it had significant differences in 'the level of mathematical tasks', a sub-level of mathematical self-efficacy, and 'the openness of learning', 'the initiative of learning', and 'a sense of responsibility for learning', sub-levels of self-directed learning ability. These results imply that independent study project learning has a positive effect on self-directed learning ability and mathematical self-efficacy of mathematically gifted elementary students so that it could be meaningfully used as a teaching method for special education for the gifted at educational sites of independent study project learning.

Mathematical justification is essential to assert with reason and to communicate. Students learn mathematical justification in 8th grade in Korea. Recently, However, many researchers point out that justification be taught from young age. Lots of studies say that students can deduct and justify mathematically from in the lower grades in elementary school. I conduct questionnaire to know awareness and steps of elementary school students and middle school students. In the case of 9th grades, the rate of students to deduct is highest compared with the other grades. The rease is why 9th grades are taught how to deductive justification. In spite of, however, the other grades are also high of rate to do simple deductive justification. I want to focus on the 6th and 5th grades. They are also high of rate to deduct. It means we don't need to just focus on inducing in elementary school. Most of student needs lots of various experience to mathematical justification.
With recent surge of Internet use, many people become concerned with side effects of Internet. Especially Internet addiction has become a significant issue. As the rate of teenagers' Internet use is higher than the rates of other age groups, and Internet takes an important part in teenagers' everyday lives, many people become concerned with Internet addition. Internet addiction is salient even among elementary school students. The purpose of this study is to grasp the realities of elementary students' Internet addiction using an evaluation tool developed for elementary school students, and to analyze differences in the addiction rate according to students' gender and grade. A survey was conducted to 989 5th and 6th graders selected from nationwide schools. The results of this study show that 5.0% of the students are in the stage of serious addiction, and 15.7% in the stage of early addiction. In addition, significant differences are found between boys and girls and between 5th graders and 6th graders.
This study was aimed to assess the degree of addiction on computer games and find factors related to game addiction, health perception and health promoting behavior in elementary school students. A study subjects were 814 students in 5th and 6th grades at 4 elementary schools in a city and a county. The items in questionnaire was consisted of general characteristics, circumstances and habits related to utilization of computer and internet game playing, and degree of addiction, health perception and health promoting behavior. We analyzed data using chi-square test, t-test, ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis. In multiple regression analysis, addictiveness on internet game was significantly related to type of computer utilization, frequency and duration of internet game playing, gender, after-school activities, grade points, economical status, and location of computer in a house. Health perception was significantly related to addiction points, gender, residential area, and grade points. And health promoting behavior was significantly related to addiction points, grade level, grade points, and health perception points. Since health promoting behaviors of children in elementary school are in the way of making, their degree of addiction to computer games can greatly influence their attitude towards health and their future life pattern as adults. Therefore an educational prevention program including counselling on game addiction should be devised. And researches will be needed for developing the Korean standard for measuring degree of addiction and a prevention program for peer group's game addiction.
The effects of nutrition label education on the perception, nutrition knowledge, understanding and applicability of labeling for 81 5$^{th}$ grade students was assessed. Prior to the education, the students' purchasing behavior of processed food was assessed by self-administered questionnaires. The evaluation of subjects' perception and understanding on nutrition label was completed prior to and following four education sessions utilizing materials developed by Korea Food and Drug Administration and Korea Health Industry Development Institute. More than 90% and 15% of subjects purchased processed food weekly and daily, respectively. Considering the nutrition label became an important factor in food purchases following the education sessions. Perception of the value of nutrition label improved from 2.93 to 3.32, although the belief that nutrition labels contributed to the maintenance of good food intake was not significantly increased. The total nutrition knowledge score increased from 5.47 to 7.14 and understanding nutrients composition table was significantly improved (3.17 to 4.80). The results indicate that a school-based nutrition label education program might be an effective aid for adoption of healthier food choices by children.

The other object compares them to a group of 100 ordinary students and 100 high-achieving students that consists of 5th and 6th grade students from A-class elementary school of 6 local office of education in Busan. The result of this paper may help in future the research on education for the information-science gifted students.
Purpose: This study is to examine the relationship between safety awareness and safety accident occurrence with elementary school students. Materials and methods: It selected 10 elementary schools under the supervision of Jeonnam Board of Education and sampled 700 students randomly from 2-3 classes in the 5th and the 6th grade. One preliminary survey was conducted to revise and complement the contents and forms of questionnaire with 70 students of a school from Apr. 1 to 6, 2004 and this study was conducted from Apr. 10 to 30, 2004. Total 700 questionnaires were distributed and 681 were collected (97%) and 602 were used for final analysis except 79 lacking responses. Data collected were analyzed with SPSS statistical program. Results: The average score of safety awareness of subjects by area was high as 2.72 points out of a possible 3. Area showing the highest safety awareness was safety from fire. Girl students had higher safety awareness than boy students. The fifth graders had higher safety awareness than the sixth graders. In safety awareness by the number of siblings, single son or single daughter showed the highest safety awareness. 53.2% of the subjects experienced accident for one year, the frequency of accident was mostly once and most of accidents were occurred at school. Accidents for the last year were higher in boy students, the sixth graders. According to relationship between safety awareness and safety accident, group with lower safety awareness in school safety(P < .022), traffic safety(P < .016), fire safety(P < .019), home safety(P < .007) and accident treatment and first aid(P < .003) had higher safety accidents than that with higher safety awareness. Conclusion: Development of safety education program by grade, that of parents safety education program, field experience and practice with students, teachers and parents and various safety education programs should be substantially and repeatedly accomplished for prevention education of safety accidents. In addition, to prevent and cope with safety accidents, safety education should be reflected on normal education, safety education textbook be developed, special safety education teachers be employed for safety education.
