  • In this study, we present a new highly accurate two-dimensional curved composite beam element. The present element, which is based on the Hellinger-Reissner variational principle and classical lamination theory, employs consistent stress parameters corresponding to cubic displacement polynomials with additional nodeless degrees to resolve the numerical difficulties due to the spurious constraints. The stress parameters are eliminated and the nodeless degrees are condensed out to obtain the (9x9) element stiffness matrix. It should be noted that the stacking sequences without transverse deformation to the load plane makes a two dimensional analysis of curved composite beams practically useful . Several numerical examples confirm the superior locking-free behavior of the present higher-order laminated curved beam element.

  • Improving lecture quality is very necessary for the service quality of education in universities, enterprises and education institutes. The student lecture evaluation survey data is a good tool for measuring lecture quality and have been often analyzed by simple statistical methods. This study presents an intelligent lecture quality improvement method that can improve student's overall satisfaction and performance by analyzing student lecture evaluation survey data. The method uses SOFM (Self-Organizing Feature Map) neural network and C4.5 to find the patterns in student's satisfaction and performance more correctly and then decide what to change in the lecture for the improvement of student's satisfaction and performance. We apply the proposed method to an enterprise lecture in Korea. We can find that it can improve the quality of an enterprise lecture by changing total lecture time, lecture material and organization of lecture schedule to be necessary improvements.

  • Purpose: This study aims at investigating the influence of various insertion torques on thermal changes of bone. A proper insertion torque is derived based on the thermal analysis with two different implant designs. Materials and methods: For implant materials, bovine scapula bone of 15 - 20 mm thickness was cut into 35 mm by 40 - 50 mm pieces. Of these, the pieces having 2 - 3 mm thickness cortical bone were used as samples. Then, the half of the sample was immersed in a bath of $36.5^{\circ}C$ and the other half was exposed to ambient temperature of $25^{\circ}C$, so that the inner and surface temperatures reached $36.5^{\circ}C$ and $28^{\circ}C$, respectively. Two types of implants ($4.5{\times}10\;mm$ Br${\aa}$nemark type, $4.8{\times}10\;mm$ Microthread type) were inserted into bovine scapula bone and the temperature was measured by a thermocouple at 0.2 mm from the measuring point. Finite element method (FEM) was used to analyze the thermal changes at contacting surface assuming that the sample is a cube of $4\;cm{\times}4\;cm{\times}2\;cm$ and a layer up to 2 mm from the top is cortical bone and below is a cancellous bone. Boundary conditions were set on the basis of the shape of cavity after implants. SolidWorks was used as a CAD program with the help of Abaqus 6.9-1. Results: In the in-vitro experiment, the Microhead type implant gives a higher maximum temperature than that of the Br${\aa}$nemark type, which is attributed to high frictional heat that is associated with the implant shape. In both types, an Eriksson threshold was observed at torques of 50 Ncm (Br${\aa}$nemark) and 35 Ncm (Microthread type), respectively. Based on these findings, the Microthread type implant is more affected by insertion torques. Conclusion: This study demonstrate that a proper choice of insertion torque is important when using a specific type of implant. In particular, for the Microthread type implant, possible bone damage may be expected as a result of frictional heat, which compensates for initial high success rate of fixation. Therefore, the insertion torque should be adjusted for each implant design. Furthermore, the operation skills should be carefully chosen for each implant type and insertion torque.

  • The relationships between the distribution of 132 species, 61 genera evergreen broad-leaved trees and shrubs(EBTS) and climatic factors have discussed. The distributional patterns of EBTS were categorized into seven groups on the basis of the number of distributing sites, distributional attitudes and latitudes. Out of seven group. the cold-tolerant EBTS were common at groups I and II, along tilth Empetrum nigrum var. japonicum. Diapensia lapponics subsp. obovata of group III. However, the warmth-tolerant EBTS were rich at groups III. IV V, and VI The lower distributional limits of cold-tolerant EBTS in the groups I and UU decreased as one moves toward south. The upper distributional limit of warmth-tolerant EBTS in the groups III, IV and V decreased with increasing latitude. However. no clear distributional tendency is noticed in the groups VI and VII. The range of warmth-tolerant EBTS appear to show close relationship with the January mean temperature -4 $\^{C}$ and January mean minimum temperature -9$\^{C}$ than others. On the other hand, that of the cold-tolerant EBTS seem to respond well to the August mean temperature 19$\^{C}$ and August mean maximum temperature 26$\^{C}$ than others.

  • The purpose of this study was to establish the critical limit of CCP (Critical Control Point) of a HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) system used in the production of seasoned laver products. The hazard analysis examined microbial evaluations and developed a HACCP management plan for the heating process. The results were determined to be capable of reducing the biological element of CCP via the secondary roasting process. This study examined general bacteria and pathogenic microorganisms such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella spp., Listeria monocytogenes, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, and Bacillus cereus at temperatures ranging from $170^{\circ}C$ to $230^{\circ}C$ and for 3.0 to 5.5 seconds at a time. Before the secondary roasting process, pathogenic microorganisms were all negative, although the presence of general bacteria was still detected. General bacteria was reduced to $1.0{\times}10CFU/g$ after the temperature was set at $230^{\circ}C$ for a period of 5.5 seconds. In conclusion, it suggested that a HACCP plan was necessary for management standard and systematic approach in the establishment of critical limit, problem resolution, verification method, education, and records management through a secondary roasting process.

  • A magnetic quadrupole doublet was fabricated for use at the pre-target position of SNU 1.5MV Van de Graaff accelerator and then its optical characteristics were measured and analysed. The physical dimensions are: pole length 180mm, aperture radius 25mm, pole tip radius 28.75mm. Material for poles and return yokes is carbon steel KS-SM40C. Coils have 480 turns per one pole and air-cooling is adopted. Applying the d.c. current 2.99$\pm$0.03A to the lens, and using the Hall probe, magnetic field elements $B_{\theta}$ , $B_{\gamma}$, were measured at the selected Points along each coordinate direction r,$\theta$, z. From the area integration and orthogonal polynomial fitting for the measured data, the magnetic Field gradient G=566.3$\pm$2.1 gauss/cm at lens center, the effective length L=208.3$\pm$1.44mm along the lens axis have been obtained. The harmonic contents were determined up to 20-pole from the generalized least squares fitting. The results indicate that sextupole/quadrupole is below 1.4$\pm$0.9% and all the other multipoles are below 0.5% in the region within 18mm radius at the center of lens.

  • Urea-SCR system, the selective catalytic reduction using urea as reducing agent, is a powerful technique to reduce nitrogen oxides(NOx) emitted from diesel engines. However, a tank of urea(32.5 wt%)-water solution can be frozen in low ambient temperature levels of below $-11^{\circ}C$. The purpose of this study is to understand freezing and melting phenomena of the urea-water solution, and its can be applied to get the urea-water solution from frozen it within 5 minutes after cold start. Factors considered were the type of heater and the urea tank shape. From the results, it was found that melting volume of cartridge heater B during 5 minutes of heating period was 83ml when supplying electric power of 150W. Horizontal heater B, which was put in the narrow bottom space of the tank T1, had fast melting characteristics.

  • To study whether N isotope composition (${\delta}^{15}N$) of crop reflects the kind of fertilizer (chemical or organic) applied to field, a pot experiment was conducted. Corn (Zea mays L.) was cultivated under greenhouse conditions for 70 days. Composted pig manure and urea were applied at 0 and 0 (C0U0), at 0 and 300 (COU2), at 300 and 0 (C2U0) and at 150 and $150kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$ (C1U1), respectively. The ${\delta}^{15}N$ values of composted pig manure and urea were + 13.9‰ and -2.3‰, respectively. The ${\delta}^{15}N$ values of whole parts (roots + stems + leaves + grains) were + 12.7, + 12.9, + 14.0 and + 13.0‰ for C0U0, C0U2, C2U0 and C1U1 treatments, and were not significantly affected by the application of isotopically different N sources (P<0.05). However, leaves or grains showed significantly (P<0.05) different ${\delta}^{15}N$ values between treatments. The ${\delta}^{15}N$ values of leaves and grains were + 14.3 and + 16.2‰ for C2U0, +13.2 and +13.9‰ for C0U0, +10.1 and + 12.6‰ for C1U1 and +10.1 and +12.4‰ for C0U2 treatments. The different ${\delta}^{15}N$ values of corn from the values of N sources (compost and urea) applied to soil showed that the ${\delta}^{15}N$ values of corn were affected not only by the isotope composition of N source, but also by N pool mixing and isotope fractionation accompanying N transformation. This study suggests that although the ${\delta}^{15}N$ values of crop are not identical to the ${\delta}^{15}N$ values of N sources applied to fields, the application of isotopically different N sources such as compost and chemical fertilizer may result in qualitative difference in ${\delta}^{15}N$ values of crop.

  • As cores in multi-core processors are integrated in a single chip, power density increased considerably, resulting in high temperature. For this reason, many research groups have focused on the techniques to solve thermal problems. In general, the approaches using mechanical cooling system or DTM(Dynamic Thermal Management) have been used to reduce the temperature in the microprocessors. However, existing approaches cannot solve thermal problems due to high cost and performance degradation. However, floorplan scheme does not require extra cooling cost and performance degradation. In this paper, we propose the diverse floorplan schemes in order to alleviate the thermal problem caused by the hottest unit in multi-core processors. Simulation results show that the peak temperature can be reduced efficiently when the hottest unit is located near to L2 cache. Compared to baseline floorplan, the peak temperature of core-central and core-edge are decreased by $8.04^{\circ}C$, $8.05^{\circ}C$ on average, respectively.

  • A TANT network is a three-level network composed solely of NAND gates having only true(i.e. uncomplemented) inputs. The paper presents a technique for finding for any given Boolean function a least-cost TANT network. The first step of the technique is to determine essential prime implicants(EPI) by Quine-McCluskey procedure or other methods and generate prime implicants(PI) hving the same head as any one of EPI by consensus operation. The second step is to select common factors among the usable tail factors. The selcetion phase is analogous to the use of C-C table. The last step is to minimize inputs by deleting the redundant PI. the technique permits hand solution of typical five-and six-variable problems.
