  • The EEG asymmetry of prefrontal lobe has been researched to analyze the affect such as depression or anxiety and the behavioral characteristics such as BIS(Behavioral Inhibition System)/BAS(Behavioral Activational System) on the basiss of alpha band. However there has been several proposals about the importance of beta asymmetry pointing out the limitation of alpha asymmetry. Here, for 44 numbers of 4-year-old children, by comparing alpha asymmetry and beta asymmetry with BIS/BAS results respectively, we propose the way to classify the characteristics of affect and behavioral trend. We also found that BIS is related with beta-asymmetry, while BAS is related with alpha-asymmetry. As for the affective trait, we use the alpha asymmetry following the other results. Our results seem to be consistent with the other results that the synapse formation of young children is more active at the hemisphere than the right hemisphere.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate children's recognition and needs about rest and naps at child care education centers, in the view of respecting children's rights. The participants were 40 children(20 4 year olds and 20 5 year olds), attending B Public Child Care Education Center in Seoul. The research methods were accomplished by participant observation in project activities and interviews with semi-structured questions. The collections of this process which were recorded document materials and video materials were analyzed by transcribed method. The results of this study were as follows: First, the meaning of the children's recognized rest showed time for family together, time for fun play, time required when they were very stressful and angry, and time for eating delicious meals. Second, children recognized that nap time in the child care center was time for a forced nap, time for listening to quiet music, and time for feeling good after a nap. Third, as for the needs to take a rest and a nap for children, they wanted to rest when they came together at full day class after their friends had returned home, they wanted a special area except the classroom, and they wanted to be cared for by familiar adults. Based on these results of the study, future research directions were proposed in terms of respecting children's rights of enjoying a rest and a nap.

FPCF in 24 MFs and CV were evaluated using the questionnaire, interview. The results are as follows: 1) There were significant correlations among father's education level, average income, occupation, and CV. FPCF scores. 2) There were no significant correlation between father's age and CV. 3) There were significant correlations between FPCF scores and CV. And some interview examples were illustrated in this paper.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop an integrated early childhood music education program using storytelling songs and to examine its possible effects by analyzing musical expression ability, language expression ability and creativity. In order to verify the effect of the program developed in the study, 68 4-year old preschoolers were selected from 2 preschools to be divided into an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group was given the integrated music education program 16 times in total (two times a week for 8 weeks). The data were analyzed by t-test. The results of this study were : First, it was found that the integrated early childhood music education program using storytelling songs had a positive effect on children's musical expression ability and linguistic expression ability. Second, it was found that the integrated early childhood music education program using storytelling songs had a positive influence among the sub-areas of creativity.

  • The purpose of this research was to find out how the interactions between mothers and their children differed depending on the age of the child and the type of book. The subjects of this study were thirty 2-year-olds and thirty 4-year-olds and their mothers. The number of male and female children was the same. The maternal interactions were analyzed in term of attention gelling, explanation, request, asking questions, and feedbacks, and the children's verbal and nonverbal reactions were also analyzed. The results showed that the characteristics of the mother and child interactions were different according the age of the child and the type of picture books. The results were discussed from the perspective of maternal scaffolding and the quality of mother-child interactions. The implications of the study were suggested in terms of the importance of the picture books and maternal roles in reading pictures books to their child.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the application of personality education elements through discussion activities in the Nuri curriculum guidebook. For this, discussion activities were analyzed according to both frequency of age and life theme. Study results were as follows. First, according to the distribution related to the target age of students, the greatest number of personality education elements were for 5 year olds, followed by those for 4 year olds and 3 year olds. Specifically, 'consideration', 'respect', 'cooperation' showed a high distribution, whereas 'filial piety' and 'sharing' showed a very low distribution. Second, according to the distribution based on life theme, it appeared that personality education element converged on particular life theme. These results are intended to provide basic data for the future direction of personality education elements through discussion activities in the Nuri curriculum guidebook.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effect of young children's self-control in the relationship between mother's affectionate parenting psychological behavioral control and young children's problem behaviors. The subjects of this study were 368 mothers whose young children were 3 to 5years old and attending to 3 private kindergartens and 2 child-care centers located in Chunkbuk. Data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, Primary factor analysis, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, t-test, F-test, Pearson's correlation, and hierarchical regression, using the SPSS 12.0 program. The results of this study were as follows: First, young children's self control partially mediated when mother's affectionate parenting affected young children's internalizing and externalizing problem behaviors. Second, young children's self control partially mediated when mother's psychological control affected young children's internalizing and externalizing problem behaviors. Third, young children's self control did not show a mediating effect on the relationship between mother's behavioral control and young children's internalizing and externalizing problem behaviors. In conclusion, young children's internalization of mother's psychological control and behavioral control as well as affectionate parenting have its effect on problem behaviors.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine whether or not the use of number-related fairy tales had any effects on young children's mathematical inquiry skills in a bid to help facilitate their development of mathematical capabilities. The subjects in this study were 30 preschoolers who were four years old in Western age and attended G kindergarten in Jung-gu, Ulsan. The instrument used to assess their mathematical inquiry skills was Choi Hye-jin(2003)'s Preschooler Math Capability Inventory. The collected data wee analyzed with SPSS Win 11.5 program, and analysis of covariance was utilized. The findings of the study were as follows: The application of number-related fairy tales turned out to be effective in developing the young children's abilities to figure out the regularity of things, conception of number, geometrical abilities, measurement abilities and mathematical inquiry skills of the preschoolers. The above-mentioned findings suggested that the application of number-related fairy tales was one of good teaching methods to step up the development of young children's mathematical inquiry skills. Specifically, that could inner motivation to preschoolers in mathematical contexts and take their problem-solving skills to another level.
