  • Performance parameters of solid rocket motor with multi axis pintle nozzles were analyzed theoretically and modeled. For figuring out the governed variable of dynamic characteristics of system, dynamic analysis was done by using established model. To present characteristics of this system, the model should include not only internal ballistics of propulsion unit but also actuating system to move pintle. For solid rocket motor with multi axis pintle nozzles, not only performance of steady state but also dynamic characteristic of transient state is important design parameter to precise thrust control. Therefore, response time of open-loop system was analyzed by using established model and requirement about response time was satisfied by controlling pressure.

  • Tissue engineering is a research field for artificial substitutes to improve or replace biological functions. Scaffolds play a important role in tissue engineering. Scaffold porosity and pore size provide adequate space, nutrient transportation and cell penetration throughout the scaffold structure. Scaffold structure is directly related to fabrication methods. This review will introduce the current technique of 3D scaffold fabrication for tissue engineering. The conventional technique for scaffold fabrication includes salt leaching, gas foaming, fiber bonding, phase seperation, melt moulding, and freeze drying. These conventional scaffold fabrication has the limitations of cell penetration and interconnectivity. In this paper, we will present the solid freeform fabrication (SFF) such as stereolithography (SLA), selective laser sintering (SLS), and fused deposition modeling (FDM), and 3D printing (3DP).

  • In spite of the advance of 3D solid modeling technology, there are some distinct areas where 2D CAD S/W are still dominant, and more competent comparing with 3D CAD S/W. For example, in the manufacturing of 2D-shaped electrical parts, most related manufacturing tools have 2D geometric features by nature, and 3D solid models applied to these parts have substantial overheads. Nevertheless, most 2D CAD S/W have no topological inquiry services because they have no such information on their geometrical database inherently. Thus, it is needed to extract such information from 2D CAD database for developing more advanced application such as automated drafting/design S/W. In this paper, the extraction of topological information from 2D CAD has been performed in general way using concept of B-rep. A general extraction algorithm, data structure and meta file format for 2D topological object have been developed and successfully applied to the development of the automated lead frame die design system in Samsung Aerospace. it is also possible to provide a flexible, powerful topology-oriented functionality on any common 2D CAD S/W.

  • In this paper, the CNC cutting planning module for product with three dimensional solid shape is realized to develop a smart CAD/CAM system which performs systematically from the shape design of procuct by the B-Rep solid modeler to the CNC cutting of product by a machining center. The three dimensional solid shape of product can be easily designed and constructed by the Euler operators and Boolean operators of the solid modeler. And the various functions such as the automatic generation of tool path for the rough and finish cutting processes, the automatic elimination of overcut, the automatic generation of CNC code for the machining center and do on, are established. Especially, the overcut-free tool paths are obtained by splitting the CL solid which is composed of the offset surfaces of the solid shape of product.

  • The solubility and species distribution of radionuclides in groundwater are essential data for the safety assessment of deep underground spent nuclear fuel (SNF) disposal systems. Americium is a major radionuclide responsible for the long-term radiotoxicity of SNF. In this study, the solubility of americium compounds was evaluated in synthetic groundwater (SynDB3), simulating groundwater from the DB3 site of the KAERI Underground Research Tunnel. Geochemical modeling was performed using the ThermoChimie_11a thermochemical database. Concentration of dissolved Am(III) in Syn-DB3 in the pH range of 6.4-10.5 was experimentally measured under over-saturation conditions by liquid scintillation counting over 70 d. The absorption spectra recorded for the same period suggest that Am(III) colloidal particles formed initially followed by rapid precipitation within 2 d. In the pH range of 7.5-10.5, the concentration of dissolved Am(III) converged to approximately 2×10-7 M over 70 d, which is comparable to that of the amorphous AmCO3OH(am) according to the modeling results. As the samples were aged for 70 d, a slow equilibrium process occurred between the solid and solution phases. There was no indication of transformation of the amorphous phase into the crystalline phase during the observation period.

  • With the goal of tissue regeneration for organs damaged through an accident or a disease, research on tissue engineering has been conducted to produce 3-D scaffolds that can support the cells in the attachment and growth for the cell proliferation and differentiation. A scaffold requires a suitable pore size and porosity to increase the nutrient circulation or oxygen supply for the attachment and growth of cells. The existing production methods such as solvent-casting particulate leaching, phase separation, and fiber bonding have certain disadvantages. With these methods, it is difficult to obtain a free desired shape. In addition, certain pore sizes and interconnectivities among the pores may not be guaranteed. To solve these problems, this study has fabricated a scaffold with a 3-D shaped nose using Alginate, which is a natural polymer obtained through Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), one of the CAD/CAM-based Solid Freeform Fabrication (SFF) methods.

  • The design methodology of injection molding die has been changed from two-dimensional drafting to three-dimensional solid modeling, which is due to many advantages over the conventional methodology in terms of design modification and data associativity. In addition to the solid modeling capability, it is required for a mold designer to utilize a database management system that facilitates efficient mold design. In the paper presented is the implementation of a software program which automatically generates three-dimensional mold-bases including standard parts and slider parts, conforming to given geometric constraints. It is based on a commercial CAD system (Unigraphics NX) along with related API (application program interface) libraries. The research is expected to reduce design efforts and simplify construction of a complex three-dimensional mold-base model that is comprised of standard parts and slider parts, by use of the three-dimensional database and automatized geometric dimensioning.

  • In this paper, a broadband Microwave Power Module(MPM) operating at 7 - 11 GHz is designed and fabricated. The MPM consists of a SSA (Solid State Amplifier) and a conventional TWT (traveling Wave Tube). This combined module takes advantage of a low noise and high gain of SSA. The computer modeling and simulation of the SSA are designed by the use of the ADS (Advanced Design System) software. The SSA is designed by configurating the CSSDA (Cascaded Single Stage Distributed Amplifier). The broadband MPM is measured to be noise figure 8.3 - 10.02 dB at 7 - 11 GHz bandwidth, output power of 38.12 dBm at 9 GHz.

  • The discrete crack-concept is applied to study the 3D propagation of tensile-dominated failure in plain concrete. To this end the Partition of Unity Finite Element Method (PUFEM) is utilized and the strong discontinuity approach is followed. A consistent linearized implementation of the PUFEM is combined with a predictor-corrector algorithm to track the crack path, which leads to a robust numerical description of concrete cracking. The proposed concept is applied to study concrete failure during the PCT3D test and the predicted numerical results are compared to experimental data. The proposed numerical concept provides a clear interface for constitutive models and allows an investigation of their impact on concrete cracking under 3D conditions, which is of significant scientific interests to interpret results from 3D experiments.

  • This paper focuses on the development of a supporting S/W tool that can minimize designer's manual operations and errors in metal mold design based on a 3D solid model. The scope in this work includes the offset surface modeling, the computation of the padding force, the generation of material table, the decision of hole position, the estimation of the size of raw material, which are the essential parts of press die and mold design in automotive industry. The proposed system has been developed as a plug-in type using Pro/E API and Visual C++ in order to put the system into the menu functions of Pro/E which is one major 3D CAD systems in the manufacturing industry.
