A High Throughput Multiple Transform Architecture for H.264/AVC Fidelity Range Extensions

  • In this paper, a high throughput multiple transform architecture for H.264 Fidelity Range Extensions (FRExt) is proposed. New techniques are adopted which (1) regularize the $8{\times}8$ integer forward and inverse DCT transform matrices, (2) divide them into four $4{\times}4$ sub-matrices so that simple fast butterfly algorithm can be used, (3) because of the similarity of the sub-matrices, mixed butterflies are proposed that all the sub-matrices of $8{\times}8$ and matrices of $4{\times}4$ forward DCT (FDCT), inverse DCT (IDCT) and Hadamard transform can be merged together. Based on these techniques, a hardware architecture is realized which can achieve throughput of 1.488Gpixel/s when processing either $4{\times}4\;or\;8{\times}8$ transform. With such high throughput, the design can satisfy the critical requirement of the real-time multi-transform processing of High Definition (HD) applications such as High Definition DVD (HD-DVD) ($1920{\times}1080@60Hz$) in H.264/AVC FRExt. This work has been synthesized using Rohm 0.18um library. The design can work on a frequency of 93MHz and throughput of 1.488Gpixel/s with a cost of 56440 gates.

  • In this paper, CMOS A/D converter with 6bit 2GSPS Nyquist input at 1.8V is designed. In order to obtain the resolution of 6bit and the character of high-speed operation. we present an Interpolation type architecture. In order to overcome the problems of high speed operation further a novel encoder, a circuit for the Reference Fluctuation, an Averaging Resistor and a Track & Hold for the improved SNR are proposed. The proposed Interpolation ADC consists of Track & Holt four resistive ladders with 64 taps, 32 comparators and digital blocks. The proposed ADC is based on 0.18um 1-poly 3-metal N-well CMOS technology, and it consumes 145mW at 1.8V power supply.

Case Study on the Physical Characteristics of Precipitation using 2D-Video Distrometer (2D-Video Distrometer를 이용한 강수의 물리적 특성에 관한 사례연구)

  • This study analyze the synoptic meteorological cause of rainfall, rainfall intensity, drop size distribution(DSD), fall velocity and oblateness measured by the 2D-Video distrometer(2DVD) by comparing two cases which are heavy rainfall event case and a case that is not classified as heavy rainfall but having more than $30mm\;h^{-1}$ rainrate in July, 2014 at Gimhae region. As a results; Over the high pressure edge area where strong upward motion exists, the convective rain type occurred and near the changma front, convective and frontal rainfall combined rain type occurred. Therefore, rainrate varies based on the synoptic meteorological condition. The most rain drop distribution appeared in the raindrops with diameters between 0.4 mm and 0.6 mm and large particles appeared for the convective rain type since strong upward motion provide favorable conditions for the drops to grow by colliding and merging so the drop size distribution varies based on the location or rainfall types. The rainfall phases is mainly rain and as the diameter of the raindrop increase the fall velocity increase and oblateness decrease. The equation proposed based on the 2DVD tends to underestimated both fall velocity and oblateness compared with observation. Since these varies based on the rainfall characteristics of the observation location, standard equation for fall velocity and oblateness fit for Gimhae area can be developed by continuous observation and data collection hereafter.

  • The disturbance observer (DOB) has been widely utilized fer high precision and high speed motion control application. However, it still lacks the analysis for the robustness brought by using DOB. This paper summarizes six guidelines for the design of DOB taking into account the robustness and control performance in case of the second order system. For effectiveness of the proposed guideline, the actual implementation and experimental results of the DOB is compared in the Optical Disk Drive(ODD) servo system. In the DVD player and DVD-ROM drive, the guidelines of DOB are useful, and the disturbance rejection performance is improved under the DOB system.

  • 21세기를 지향하여 음성뿐만 아니라 데이터, 나아가서는 화상까지도 쌍방향전송을 가능케하는 고도정보통신, 소위 멀티미디어의 세계가 구현되어 가고 있다. 이 멀티미디어의 세계는 (1)고속$\cdot$대용량, (2)글로벌, (3)모바일(퍼스널)의 키워드로 특징지을 수 있는데, 여기에는 화합물반도체를 베이스로하는 광$\cdot$마이크로파디바이스가 깊이 관련되어 있다. 마이크로파디바이스를 살펴보면 소위 ''텔레데식'' 계획으로 대표되는 다량의 인공위성을 이용한 글로벌한 고속$\cdot$대용량통신에는 30 GHz라는 초고주파기술이 필수이며, HEMT등의 고성능화합물 반도체디바이스가 반드시 필요하다. 또 2.5~10Gbps, 나아가서는 40Gbps의 고속$\cdot$장거리 통신에는 광 디바이스가 결정적인 역할을 하고 있다. 한편 지수 함수적으로 증대하고 있는 정보의 축적은 광디스크의 진보에 힘입은 바가 크다. 보다 많은 대용량 화상데이터의 축적과 읽기$\cdot$쓰기를 할 수 있는 DVD(Digital Versatile Disc)-ROM, DVD-RAM에 대하여도 시장 조성이 목전에 다가오고 있다. 이와 같이 광$\cdot$마이크로파디바이스는 정보$\cdot$통신의 프런트 엔드를 걸머진 중핵디바이스로서 앞으로 멀티미디어를 근간으로 하여 성장해 갈 것으로 생각된다.

  • A Analog parallel processing-based Viterbi decoder which decodes PRML signal of DVD has been designed by CMOS circuit. The analog processing-based Viterbi decoder implements are functions of the conventional digital Viterbi decoder utilizing the analog parallel processing circuit technology. The Analog parallel processing-based Viterbi decoding technology is applied for the PR(1,2,2,1) signal decoding of DVD. The benefits are low power consumption and less silicon consumption. In this paper, the comparison of the Analog parallel processing-based Viterbi Decoder which has a function of the error correction between Max operation and Average operation is discussed.

  • Sound contents of these days are in the trend of 3D surround audio which has much higher quality then CD audio with the aid of DVD, Development environments of sound contents should be advanced and the efficient application of this system is quite necessary. In this paper, we proposed an improving method for utilizing sound/audio card systems which are necessory for developing game and multimedia sound contents as well as relate know-hows of producing 3D sounds with sound production tools for their efficient usages and applications.

  • 보호층 0.1mm두께의 20GB이상의 광디스크를 기록·재생하는 High Density Optical System에서는 Blue-violet laser와 NA(Numerical Aperture)0.85의 High NA의 대물렌즈를 사용한 Optical Pick Up이 필요로 된다. 종래의 대물렌즈는 glass 또는 plastic제의 2매 조합 대물렌즈가 많이 사용되어지고 있는데, 이는 두 렌즈간의 거리를 일정하게 유지시키기 위한 홀더 조립시의 공차가 엄격히 요구되며, 2매 조합 대물렌즈를 구동시키기 위한 actuator의 부피와 무게를 증가시킴으로서 구동감도를 감소시키는 단점이 있다.
