  • In the 21st century, men is expressing the femininity instead of the muscularity. And a boundary line between a man and a woman is not clear any more. A man is interested in the lifestyle of a woman, and he imitates her fashion styles, hairstyles, accessories, make-up, and plastic surgery. He is called as "Metrosexual" or "Crossexual". Nowadays, men as well as women can satisfy the wants for beauty. The beautiful appearance of a man has a good impact on the social relationships. The feminizing trends are generally accepted and are shown in the silhouettes, details, colors, fabrics and accessories. The feminizing trends in men's knitwear are shown in the various items. They have slim silhouettes and feminine details. Also they are made of bulky yarns or fancy yarns, and various stitches for texture effects. The most outstanding changes in men's knitwear are the vivid colors and flower patterns.

  • The purpose of this study is to deal with a forecast of probable failures facing up to the existing Korean universities and colleges in the early 21st century and with how each institution should cope with the situation before the failures actually take place. The methods used in this research are Scenario analysis, Factor and Cluster analyses in order to find out major factors having influence upon the operation and management of these universities and colleges. It's turned out that every institution is different from others and in fact unique in its make-up and so each will have different ways to deal with the impending failures and the crisis management problems strategically.

  • Securing food safety, natural and social environmental protection, and activation of rural communities are some of challenging tasks for the 21st century. National consensus on agriculture as a basic and public industry would be needed to solve these challenging tasks. Agricultural policy and extension education should be focused on encouraging farmers to achieve better production and management by developing their motivation and ability. Systematic and organizational efforts to make a better environment for farming and farm management should be the major target of agricultural policy and extension services in the future. To meet changing needs of farmer, agricultural extension services should change programs, functions, information sources, and methods of delivery to adopt experiential learning for farmers. Functions for consultation, suggestion and organization should be extended and advisory services for farmers should be emphasized by providing extension education.

  • This study aims to suggest a fundamental directions and models of school construction for 21st century. According to the changing educational situation(the 7th national curriculum), it examined the scholarly foundations(historical-philosophical, teaching-learning theoretical, and socio-economical foundation) of school construction. As a result, it suggest a general three models as follows : (1) intelligent school building, (2) community education center, (3) and ecological environment school.

  • The ideal design of the new libraries in 21st century is explored by bench marking many libraries in developed countries. The library buildings are designed to be intelligent, multi-functional, and environmentally compatible, displaying various library treasures and promoting library materials. Thus the libraries become the community centers and tourist attractions.

Future Climate Projection over East Asia Using ECHO-G/S (ECHO-G/S를 활용한 미래 동아시아 기후 전망)

  • Future climate changes over East Asia are projected by anthropogenic forcing of greenhouse gases and aerosols using ECHO-G/S (ECHAM4/HOPE-G). Climate simulation in the 21st century is conducted with three standard SRES scenarios (A1B, B1, and A2) and the model performance is assessed by the 20th Century (20C3M) experiment. From the present climate simulation (20C3M), the model reproduced reliable climate state in the most fields, however, cold bias in temperature and dry bias of summer in precipitation occurred. The intercomparison among models using Taylor diagram indicates that ECHO-G/S exhibits smaller mean bias and higher pattern correlation than other nine AOGCMs. Based on SRES scenarios, East Asia will experience warmer and wetter climate in the coming 21st century. Changes of geographical patterns from the present to the future are considerably similar through all the scenarios except for the magnitude difference. The temperature in winter and precipitation in summer show remarkable increase. In spite of the large uncertainty in simulating precipitation by regional scale, we found that the summer (winter) precipitation at eastern coast (north of $40^{\circ}N$) of East Asia has significantly increased. In the 21st century, the warming over the continents of East Asia showed much more increase than that over the ocean. Hence, more enhanced (weakened) land-sea thermal contrast over East Asia in summer (winter) will cause strong (weak) monsoon. In summer, the low pressure located in East Asia becomes deeper and the moisture from the south or southeast is transported more into the land. These result in increasing precipitation amount over East Asia, especially at the coastal region. In winter, the increase (decrease) of precipitation is accompanied by strengthening (weakening) of baroclinicity over the land (sea) of East Asia.

Projected Sea-ice Changes in the Arctic Sea under Global Warming (기후변화에 따른 북극해 빙해역 변화)

  • This study examines changes in the Arctic sea ice associated with global warming by analyzing the climate coupled general circulation models (CGCMs) provided in the Fourth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. We selected nine models for better performance under 20th century climate conditions based on two different criteria, and then estimated the changes in sea ice extent under global warming conditions. Under projected 21st century climate conditions, all models, with the exception of the GISS-AOM model, project a reduction in sea ice extent in all seasons. The mean reduction in summer (-63%) is almost four times larger than that in winter (-16%), resulting an enhancement of seasonal variations in sea ice extent. The difference between the models, however, becomes larger under the 21st century climate conditions than under 20th century conditions, thus limiting the reliability of sea-ice projections derived from the current CGCMs.

  • The purpose of this study is to discuss the issues and problems of interior design education in Korea and to further present guidelines for curriculum development and research on interior design education in Korea for the 21st Century. Content analysis and scholastic inquiry from various sources were used to examine the issues concerning 1) professional identity, 2) curriculum structure, and 3) creative scholarship including interdisciplinary approach. Identification of these issues presented in this study will allow interior design educators to help prepare interior design students who are qualified to lead the profession in the future.

  • The 21st century is the age when a sensational image has more explanatory power and can deliver a more powerful message than a message consisting of logical thinking. Powerful visual images create a big impact on many people throughout the world, overcoming linguistic barriers and even replacing language as a means of communication. In the fashion field, the concept and power of visual images within the new multimedia of the 21st century are becoming increasingly important. In recent years, other than the above methods, videos, movies and animation features have been produced directly to enhance visual effects and attempts are increasing to use these new tools as communication methods. This study focuses on animation contents that have been used in the fashion industry to overcome prejudice of luxury international brands that feature images that emphasize value, quality and heritage. The purpose of this study is to focus on the specific character of fashion animation in order to overview the concept of 21st video fashion communication and to show how the collection concept that includes color and detail places an emphasis on visual images. Analysis of previous research, theoretical research through literature and case study on Prada fashion animation led to the following conclusion. The common features of two different Prada fashion animation show that both animation have the following features in common : realism, dramatic impact and convergence for expression methods, and creativeness, hybrid and a happy ending for contents. Beginning with this study, I believe that various angles of interest and concern about communication in the fashion world, which is a social and cultural phenomenon that changes rapidly, can be will be looked at and learned from.

Development of Tools to Evaluate the Effectiveness of Smart Education and Digital Textbooks (스마트교육.디지털교과서 효과성 검증 도구 개발)

  • The purpose of this research was to develop the tools needed to evaluate the effectiveness of using digital textbooks and smart education. We then developed the tools to evaluate the effectiveness of smart education and digital textbook utilization, which were an identification of 1) seven essential 21st century skills, definitions of each, and prerequisite abilities; 2) five 21st century teacher competencies, definitions of each, and prerequisite abilities; To develop the questionnaire, we conducted a literature review in this area, consulted experts, observed classes, interviewed members of focus groups, and met with policy makers from the Ministry of Education and KERIS. The student questionnaire(26 Questions developed) included; creativity and innovation, critical thinking and problem solving, communication, collaboration, ICT literacy, self-directed learning, and adaptability. The teacher questionnaire(24 questions developed) included; 21st Century Skills, ICT Literacy, Rapport building with learners, Instructional design, Evaluation and reflection. The tools we developed will be able to use for evaluating the effectiveness of smart education and digital textbooks.
