This study explored the effects of pre-service elementary teachers' inquiries into science class dilemmas. By closely examining the characteristics of the pre-service teachers' inquiry processes and changes in their educational decisions, the effectiveness of using dilemmas as part of teacher education was determined. Twenty fourth-year university pre-service teachers participated and conducted inquiries into science class dilemmas over seven weeks. Based on pre- and post-questionnaires, KWHL tables, inquiry reports, discussions, and group class presentations, the major factors that influence the pre-service teacher's decision-making changes were extracted. The pre-service teachers found the science inquiry process meaningful when exploring the science topics covered in the dilemmas, and claimed that elementary school students would be able to engage in meaningful science explorations if they learned science through inquiry. Furthermore, the pre-service teachers explored the thinking processes and background knowledge of the students in different ways. Documents such as teacher's guides and the curriculum were examined and the students' thought processes were identified through interviews with the teachers and students, which were found to reflect their educational decision-making. Moreover, it was recognized by the pre-service teachers that depending on the situation, alternative teaching methods were possible. The focus on the unstructured dilemma problems provided the pre-service teachers with problem-solving situations that triggered scientific inquiry and exploration of student thinking and revealed the complexity of science teaching and learning. Based on these results, the teacher education implications for using dilemma cases are discussed.

This study aims to explore, using both quantitative and qualitative data analyzing the structural relationship between creative process and product, the types of elementary students' scientific creativity. For this, 105 fifth-graders responded to a scientific creativity test that assesses creative process and product, and four students who scored the highest were interviewed. In the interview, they were asked about the cognitive process they used in generating the creative product. Then, correlation analysis and structural equation modeling were used, along with the interview data, to type the students. The main findings of the study are as follows. First, the structural equation modeling of creative process and product gave satisfactory results in absolute and incremental fit indexes. Second, among the three components of creative process - knowledge, inquiry skill-observation, and creative thinking skills -, only creative thinking skills had significant effects on creative product. Third, divergent thinking skills had the strongest correlation with the creative product, followed by convergent thinking skills. Associational thinking skills did not have significant correlation. Fourth, elementary students' scientific creativity could be categorized into Creative Type, Useful Type, Original Type, and Non-creative Type, based on their creative product. The Non-creative Type could be further classified into Common Type, Repetitive Type, Non-response Type, Irrelevant Type, and Abstract Type. Fifth, most students used either knowledge or observation in their creative process, making them either Knowledge-oriented Type or Observation-oriented Type. In addition, there were DT Type, DT-CT Type, and DT-CT-AT Type among the students, based on the kinds of creative thinking skills they mainly used in the process. This study provides implications for educators and researchers in scientific creativity education.

This study was conducted to confirm the differences in nursing process competence, critical thinking disposition, and education satisfaction between clinical practicum and school practicum in the prolonged COVID19 pandemic. As an inequality control post-hoc design study, 55 students who agreed to participate in the study among the third year of nursing college students who took adult nursing practice were targeted. Data were collected by classifying the students who participated in the school practicum into the experimental group(N=29) and the students who participated in the clinical practicum into the control group(N=26). The collected data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 22.0 program. As a result of the study, there was no significant difference in nursing process competence and critical thinking disposition between the two groups. However, in the control group, overall satisfaction with education (t=-9.82, p=.040) and recommendations to other students (t=-1.88, p<.001) were found to be significantly higher. Although it was not possible to confirm the difference between the effects of clinical practicum and school practicum as a result of the study, the significance of the study could be found in that there was no difference. In line with the post-corona era, future research on the development of a practicum program consisting of various contents, teaching methods, and practice to achieve the goal of practicum and analysis of the effectiveness of the program is suggested.
Considering the importance of spatial thinking in the process of learning astronomy, it is necessary to educate pre-service teachers on teaching methods that consider spatial thinking from the teacher training program stage. Accordingly, after providing education on spatial thinking to pre-service science teachers, problems and improvement plans perceived by them were explored for the images and inquiry activities of astronomy textbook units. In this study, spatial thinking in the astronomical domain was defined as the amalgam of the concepts of space, representation tools, and reasoning processes. The juniors attending the University of Education in the metropolitan area were educated on spatial thinking for two weeks in October 2021. They were then asked to voluntarily select one of the astronomy units to analyze problems in the textbooks and present modification plans to address those problems. Finally, 33 cases presented by 22 pre-service science teachers were analyzed, and the results of the study were as follows. Pre-service teachers recognized the problems in textbooks in terms of the concepts of space and reasoning processes, and proposed improvement plans to supplement them. However, in some cases, even if pre-service teachers properly recognized a problem, the improvement plan was not appropriate, or they were not able to analyze the images or inquiry activities in terms of spatial thinking. This study is significant in that it shows that pre-service teachers have the potential to properly reorganize and revise textbooks by participating in teacher training programs on spatial thinking. Furthermore, based on the results of this study, the direction of the teacher training program concerning spatial thinking was discussed.

The purpose of this study is to analyze high school students' understanding and use of the recommended books lists. The survey distributed to high school students in seven high schools located in Seoul, and 311 students responded. Using SPSS 24, the data was analyzed by frequency, binary logistic model, and one-way ANOVA. Results show the followings. First, the meaningful factors affecting students' use of recommended books lists are gender, grade levels, and the degree to which students think recommended books lists include the books that are suitable and interesting. Particularly, the degree to which students think recommended books lists include the suitable books for them is the strong factor affecting students' use of the recommended books lists. Second, male students are less likely to use recommended books lists than female students. Male students consistently are less likely to use the recommended books lists made by school librarians, subject teachers, and reading experts and/or organizations. Third, teacher-librarians believed that the recommended books lists would help students who do not enjoy reading and have difficulties in reading. However, the study finds that students who enjoy reading and read well are more willing to use the recommended books lists made by school librarians, subjects teachers, and reading experts and/or organizations than those who do not. Fourth, students are most willing to use the recommended books lists for college preparation. The findings suggest the further research topics in designing the recommended books lists suitable for high school students and in scaffolding the high school students' use of book information reflected in recommended books lists.

This study aimed to find out how creative education programs using AR/VR affect student's creative problem-solving skills and class satisfaction. For this purpose, a total of 179 students in 7 classes of the first grade of J High school located in the chungbuk region were the subjects of this study. The data were analyzed by performing two-dependent samples (t-test) based on the difference between the pre- and post-scores of creative problem-solving ability test, and the value of class satisfaction was analyzed and interpret using descriptive statistics and interview. The results of this study are as follows. First, except for 'execution', 'problem discovery and analysis', 'idea generation', 'execution plan', 'conviction and communication', and 'innovation tendency' showed statistically significant results. Second, in terms of class satisfaction of the creative education program, it was an average of 3.75 and it was difficult for learners to derive creative ideas, outputs, and results through groups within a given time in regular class, but generally showed a positive response. Therefore, it was confirmed that the creative education program using AR/VR increased student's learning motivation and interest in the process of generation or expanding ideas to solve problems like educational effect of STEAM.

Heuristic is a empirical method that is used quickly when uncertainty or insufficient time and information are insufficient. The purpose of this study is to find out what heuristics appear in the processing of the experimental manual among science experiment activities of elementary school students. To do this, 20 fifth-grade elementary school students (female 10 and male 10) were required to conduct scientific experimental activities as research participants to collect experimental behavior data and gaze movement data, and retrospective interviews were conducted. The collected data extracted and conceptualized behavior by heuristics. As a result of the study, there were five heuristics that appeared in the processing of the experimental manual: "reducing the difference between the target state and the current state," "guessing the experimental procedure," "paying attention to the expected results," "comparing with the picture of the experimental manual," and "using a trial and error strategy." According to each concept of heuristics, there were favorable and unfavorable aspects for experimental activities. In science experiment activities that students experience for the first time, there is a lack of information and the situation is uncertain, so behavior by heuristics appears in nature. Therefore, educators need to understand students' heuristics and guide scientific experimental activities.

This study was conducted to examine the practical and educational implications of teachers' operation of the curriculum through science and online classes based on data collected for 4 months from 4 teachers who had experience in science subject online classes among homeroom teachers in the 3rd to 6th grades of elementary school in D city. This study was conducted through narrative inquiry. As a result of conducting interviews and in-depth interviews based on the online class experiences of the Earth Science Unit of the study subjects, and conducting field classes with related documents such as online class-related materials and teacher journals, teachers were more likely to take online classes compared to traditional face-to-face classes. They spent more time preparing and showed difficulties in the process of adapting to the new medium used in online classes. In addition, they demanded the provision of scientific materials produced in a pandemic situation and a teaching platform for smooth class operation. In particular, in the case of experimental classes, there is a burden of completing the planned curriculum, and in a pandemic situation, students felt the need for individual experimental tools for intensive science classes. As a result, it is necessary to introduce a blended learning learning system that combines the advantages of face-to-face and online classes as a new class form for the transition to future education in preparation for the pandemic. Continuous teacher research on the format and online class experience is required.

This study is to investigate the effects and characteristics of science and engineering integrated lessons on elementary students' creative engineering problem solving propensity (CEPSP). The science and engineering integrated lessons used in this study was a 10 lesson-hours STEM program, co-developed by University of Minnesota and Purdue University. The program was implemented in the 6th grade science class of H Elementary School located in P Metropolitan city. The main data of this study are the pre-post CEPSP result and interview with 5 students collected before and after the research. The CEPSP result was analyzed by a paired-sample t-test and hierarchical cluster analysis. As a result of the t-test, it was found that overall, the program has a positive effect on the students' CEPSP score. As a result of cluster analysis, it was confirmed that studnets' CEPSP could be classified into two groups (lower and higher score cluster). Five students whose, CEPSP score has significantly improved after the lessons were interviewed to find out what the characteristics of the program that contribute the significant change are. As a result of conducting centroid analysis of the interview transcription and the hybrid analysis method, it was found that the meaningful experiences that the five students commonly shared were 'problem solving through collaboration' and 'through repeated experiments (redesign)', problem solving' and 'utilization of scientific knowledge'. As minor reactions, 'choice of the best experimental method' and 'difference between science and engineering' appeared.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of science classes using elementary school distance science classes on science academic achievement and creative personality. The research group and non-research group were selected for 6th grade elementary school students. After 10 weeks of experimental treatment, science classes were conducted with the contents of the elementary school science section, 'Changes of the seasons'. In the three domains of 'knowledge', 'inquiry', and 'attitude', which are sub-domains of science academic achievement, as a result of the pre-post test, there was a positive effect in 'inquiry' and 'attitude', which are sub-domains of science academic achievement. However, it was found that there was no positive effect in 'knowledge', a sub-domain of academic achievement. However, it was found that there was a positive effect in the overall test result of academic achievement. Therefore, it is interpreted that science classes using elementary school distance science classes had an effect on academic achievement. There was a significant effect in the sub-domains of the creative personality test, 'persistence/obsession', 'self-confidence', 'humor', 'imagination', 'openness', 'adventure', and 'independence'. However, it was found that there was no effect in the sub-domain 'curiosity'. The overall test results of the creative personality test showed a significant effect. Therefore, it is interpreted that science classes using elementary school distance science classes are effective in cultivating creative personality. Students' perceptions of science classes using elementary school distance science classes also showed positive responses.
