  • The element free Galerkin method has been suggested by Belyschko, etc. it is applied for linear elastic analysis of solid problems and its convergence characteristics and stability are shown according to the weight function, influence domain and scattered points. The various numerical examples are performed to check the efficiency of 1D EFG and 2D EFG program by changing factors. As a result it have the best results when it used the cubic spline weight function and the scaling parameter d$_{max}$=2. These programs were developed by mixed language programming method using Visual Basic and the C language. so it is fast and efficient. and visually shown the result.t.

  • For free vibration of monosymmetric thin-walled circular arches including restrained warping effect, the elastic strain and kinetic energy is derived by introducing displacement fields of circular arches in which all displacement parameters are defined at the centroid axis. The cubic Hermitian polynomials are utilized as shape functions for development of the curved thin-walled beam element having eight degrees of freedom. Analytical solution for free vibration behaviors of simply supported thin-walled curved beam element is presented by evaluating elastic stiffness and mass matrices. In order to illustrate the accuracy and practical usefulness of this study, analytical and numerical solutions for free vibration of circular arches are presented and compared with solutions analyzed by the FEM using straight beam element.

  • This paper presents a novel hybrid time-frequency-domain method for nonlinear soil-structure interaction(SSI) analysis. It employs, in a practical manner, a computer code for equivalent linear SSI analysis and a general-purpose nonlinear finite element program. The proposed method first (calculates dynamic responses on a truncated finite element boundary utilizing an equivalent linear SSI program in the frequency domain. Then, a general purpose nonlinear finite element program is employed to analyze the nonlinear SSI problem in the time domain, in which boundary conditions at the truncated boundary are imposed with the responses calculated in the previous frequency domain SSI analysis, In order to validate the proposed method, seismic response analyses are carried out for a 2-D underground subway station in a multi-layered half-space, For the analyses, a equivalent linear SSI code KIESSI-2D is coupled to ANSYS program. The numerical results indicate that the proposed methodology can be a viable solution for nonlinear SSI problems.

  • Vibrations and wave propagations in waveguide structures can be analysed efficiently by using waveguide finite element (WFE) method. The WFE method only models the 2-dimensional cross-section of the waveguide with finite elements so that the size of the model and computing time are much less than those of the 3-dimensional FE models. For cylindrical shells or pipes which have simple cross-sections, the external coupling with fluids can be treated theoretically. For waveguides of complex cross-sectional geometries, however, numerical methods are required to deal with external fluids. In this numerical approach, the external fluid is modelled by the boundary elements (BEs) and connected to WFEs. In order to validate this WFE/BE method, a pipe submerged in water is considered in this study. The dispersion diagrams and point mobilities of the pipe simulated are compared to those that theoretically obtained. Also the acoustic powers radiated from the pipe are predicted and compared in both cases of air and water as an external medium.

  • The aim of the current study is to develop a nonlinear isoparametric layered frame finite element (FE) analysis of FRP strengthened reinforced concrete (RC) beam or column members by a force-based FE formulation. In sections, concrete is modeled in the triaxial stress-strain relationship state and the FRP sheet is modeled as layered composite materials in two-dimension. The element stiffness matrix derived by the force-based FE has the force-interpolation functions without assuming the displacement shape functions. A lateral load test of RC column strengthened by GFRP sheets was analyzed by the developed force-based FE model. From comparative studies of the experimental and analysis results, it was shown to compare with the stiffness FE method that the force-based FE analysis could give more accurate predictions in the overall lateral load-deflection response as well as in nonlinear deformations and damages in the column plastic hinge region.

  • In this study, compression and shear characteristics of laminated rubber bearings and lead rubber bearings with various parameters are investigated by using material and geometric nonlinear three-dimensional finite element analysis. Rubber coupon tests are performed to make a model of the laminated rubber bearings. In addition, the material constants of the rubber are calculated by the curve fitting process of stress-strain relationship. The finite element analysis and experimental tests of the laminate rubber bearings are used to verify the validity of the rubber material constants. It is seen that the compression behavior of the laminated rubber bearings and lead rubber bearings mainly varies depending on the first shape factors and their shear behavior significantly varies depending on the second shape factors. In addition, the horizontal stiffness and energy dissipation capacity of lead rubber bearing are increased when the diameter of a lead bar is increased.

  • In this paper, the finite element formulation for the thermal analysis of quasi-static, uncoupled, homogeneous, isotropic and linear viscoelastic problems is presented based on the principle of virtual work. The viscoelastic material is assumed to be thermorheologically simple, which is well known material property in a large class of high polymers. The variational formulation and the finite element equation in matrix from are derived. Effective generation and storage of the hereditary stiffness matrices are given in detail especially for the case of the steady state temperature distribution T=T(x). Some numerical examples are given and compared with published results to show the versatility of the derived finite element formulations.
