  • As a basic research to realize Korean speech recognition system, phoneme recognition was carried out to find out ; 1) the best place which represents each phoneme's characteristics, and 2) the reasonable length of duration for obtaining the best recognition rates. For the recognition experiments, multi-speaker dependent recognition with Bayesian decision rule using 21 order of cepstral coefficient as a feature parameter was adopted. It turned out that the best place of feature extraction for the highest recognition rates were 10~50ms in vowels, 40~100ms in fricatives and affricates, 10~50ms in nasals and liquids, and 10~50ms in plosives. And about 70ms of duration was good enough for the recognition of all 35 phonemes.

  • Active components of lacquer tree referred to as urushiol congeners, which are catechol derivatives with various alkyl or alkenyl substituents. The olefin side chains typically have one, two or three double bonds. In this study, the each congener's ratio analysis of extracts from korean lacquer tree are compared to the one from other asian lacquer tree. Extraction was performed using liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) method with soxhlet system from tree's bark and sap. Extracts were analyzed by reverse phase liquid chromatography and on-line electro spray ionization mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS).

  • Amadori compounds(1-deoxy-1-amino-2-ketoses) are important precursors of color, flavor and aroma produced in foods. Amadori compounds occur naturally in tobacco. The contribution of amadori compounds to smoke quality has been (of) interest because of their roles of the Maillard reaction in the leaf chemistry. The amounts of these compound in tobacco are affected by the processes of aging, drying and storage conditions. In this study, eight compounds were chemically synthesized because amadori compounds (have not been sold commercially these days.) were not available for obtaining commercially. The aim of this study was to develop the analytical method of amadori compounds in tobacco leaf by the liquid chromatography mass spectrometry using triple quadrupole analyzer(LC-MS/MS). This method was simple, rapid, selective and sensitive, and eight amadori compounds were simultaneously and quantitatively analyzed within 20 minutes. This method showed excellent accuracy and precision. Recovery rates of amadori compounds ranged from 86% to 102%, with relative standard deviation(RSD) ranged from 2.6% to 5.9%. This method was applied to analysis of amadori compounds contents of tobacco leaves in different varieties. Furthermore, it was expected that the method could be extended to the analysis of other amadori compounds.

  • This study was carried out to determine the effects of growth regulators, carbon sources and silver nitrate on callus formation and plant regeneration of turfgrass. The results were summarized as fallows : Callus from Korean lawngrass (Zoysia japonica Steud.) and pencross creeping bentgrass (Agrostis palustrir Huds.) induced better in MS medium than in N6 medium and by addition of 2,4-D than by that of NAA. Callus formation from Korean lawngrass and penncross creeping bentgrass was very effective at MS medium adding 1mg/L 2,4-D and at the medium adding 2mg/L 2,4-D, repectively. Growth of callus was good at MS medium containing 2mg/L 2,4-D+0.2mg/L NAA. Callus growth of Korean lawngrass and penncross creeping bentgrass was good when kinetin was added 0.2mg/L and 0.3mg/L, individually, to MS medium containg 2mg/L 2,4-D+0.2mg/L NAA. Regeneration rate from leaf and stock callus of Korean lawngrass was 44% at MS medium adding 2,4-D 2mg/L+NAA 0.2mg/L+kinetin 0.3mg/L and 32% at the medium containing 2,4-D 2mg/L+NAA 0.2mg/L+kinetin 0.3mg/L, each and that from leaf and stock callus of penncross creeping bentgrass was 80% and 67%, each, at the medium adding 2,4-D 2mg/l+NAA 0.2mg/L+kinetin 0.3mg/L. Regeneration rate of Korean lawngrass and penneross creeping bentgrass increased by 3 to 4% and by 10 to 16%, respectively, when added $AgNO_3$ 1~2mg/L to the above-mentioned regeneration medium.

  • A 9b MS/s CMOS cyclic folding A/D converter (ADC) for intelligent battery sensor and battery management systems is proposed. The proposed ADC structure is based on a cyclic architecture to reduce chip area and power consumption. To obtain a high speed ADC performance, further, we use a folding-interpolating structure. The prototype ADC implemented with a 0.35um 2P4M n-well CMOS process shows a measured INL and DNL of maximum 1.5LSB and 1.0LSB, respectively. The ADC demonstrates a maximum SNDR and SFDR of 48dB and 60dB, respectively, and the power consumption is about 110mW at 2MS/s and 3.3V. The occupied active die area is $10mm^2$.

  • The stem segments of Ailanthus altissima were cultured on the Murashige & Skoog's medium(1962) supplemented with 0.1 mg/l BAP and 1.0 mg/l 2, 4-D for callus induction and proliferation, Shoot primordia were observed as greenish regions on the surface of yellow-brown calli about 8 weeks after culture. Shoot primordia were selected and transferred to the MS media containing various combination of BAP and 2, 4-D. Among these combinations the shoot primordia cell clusters on the medium added to 0.5mg/l BAP and 0.01mg/l 2, 4-D exhibited the highest number of shoot formation. These shoots were successfully transferred on the solid MS medium with no growth regulators for the rootings.

  • This work describes a 3 V 12b 100 MS/s CMOS digital-to-analog converter (DAC) for high-speed communication system applications. The proposed DAC is composed of a unit current-cell matrix for 8 MSBs and a binary-weighted array for 4 LSBs, considering linearity, power consumption, chip area, and glitch energy. The low-glitch switch driving circuit is employed to improve the linearity and the dynamic performance. Current sources of the DAC are laid out separately from the current-cell switch matrix core. The prototype DAC is implemented in a 0.35 urn n-well single-poly quad-metal CMOS technology. The measured DNL and INL of the prototype DAC are within $\pm$0.75 LSB and $\pm$1.73 LSB, respectively, and the spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) is 64 dB at 100 MS/s with a 10 MHz input sinewave. The DAC dissipates 91 mW at 3 V and occupies the active die area of 2.2 mm ${\times}$ 2.0 mm.
