  • The local regression rate behavior of solid fuel in swirl injection hybrid rocket were studied. In generally, axial injection regression rate was tending to be decrease with axial distance, beyond which increased with increasing axial distance from the leading edge. On the other hand, swirl injection regression rate was high at the leading edge of the fuel and comparatively uniform regression rate at the downstream. Overall regression rate of swirl injection was increased about 54% for the overall regression rate of axial injection. Through this study, it was found that using swirl injector was useful in applying to the small sounding rocket.

  • In generally, the regression rate equation was only expressed by function of oxidizer massflux in hybrid propulsion system. This can not represent the local value of regression rate along with oxidizer flow direction. In this study, experimental studies were performed with several pieces of solid fuel. As results, the local regression rate decreases rapidly with axial location near entrance, and increases with axial distance from the leading edge. The empirical formula for local regression rate with function of oxidizer massflux and length was derived.

  • The axial local regression rate of solid fuel of hybrid rocket is one of important parameter for a design and performance. Steeping method is simple and measure a corrcet regression rate of axial direction not being relevant to a shape of fuel and physical characteristics. In this study, the problem of other measuring equipment was improved and this linear steeping method is provide higher accuracy than the other.

  • The hybrid combustion experiments using non-combustible diaphragm were performed for characteristic of regression rate and combustion efficiency. Results of experiments using diaphragm were showed that the regression rate and efficiency were increased. In addition, the larger difference between fuel grain port and diaphragm port increase the regression rate and efficiency. The modified regression rate equation was proposed with the port area ratio of fuel and diaphragm.

  • Combustion characteristics of the paraffin-based hybrid rocket fuel were compared with HDPE fuel. Regression rate of the pure paraffin wax was increased 12.1 times, but characteristic velocity was lower than HDPE. In case of paraffin fuel with 10%wt LDPE, regression rate was lower than pure paraffin wax, but regression rate compare with HDPE was increased 3.5 times and characteristic velocity was increased. According to these results, it was confirmed that blending of polymeric fuel improves combustion efficiency.

  • Hybrid rocket had many advantage with compared to solid and liquid rockets. In this study, swirl flow hybrid motor was designed and manufactured. And the methods of regression rate improvement were considered. Thrust was calculated with pressure of the combustion chamber and the regression rate was measured by using ultrasonic sensor technique in entire firing conditions. In this study, PMMA fuel and HTPB solid fuel were used in firing test.

  • In this paper, the combustion characteristics of hybrid rocket were studied with various port number of the cylindrical multi-port grain. For the regression rate case, as the port number increases, the both port regression rate and end-surface regression rate tend to increase. For the performance parameter case, as the port number increases, the O/F ratio tends to decreases and the specific impulse tends to increase.

  • This research was carried out to estimate annual erosion and retreat rates by using datum-point and to identify the characteristics and causes of seasonal variations of sea-cliff slope in Pado-ri, Taean-gun. In the result, the erosion and retreat rates of sea-cliff were increased from spring to summer. The rates were increased rapidly between August and October, caused by the effects of extreme weather events such as severe rainstorms and typhoons, etc. Since then, the erosion and retreat rates of sea-cliff were decreased gradually, but the rates were increased again in winter due to the storm surge and mechanical weathering resulting from the repeated freezing and thawing actions of bed rocks. The factors that affect erosion and retreat rates of sea-cliff include the number of days with antecedent participation and daily maximum wave height. In particular, it turned out that the erosion is accelerated by strong wave energy during storm surges and typhoons. The annual erosion and retreat rates of study area for the past two years(from May 2010 to May 2012) were approximately 44~60cm/yr in condition of differences in geomorphological and geological characteristics at each point. These erosion and retreat rates were found to be higher than results of previous researches. This is caused by coastal erosion forces strengthened by extreme weather events. The erosion and retreat process of sea-cliff in the study area is composed by denudation of onshore areas in addition to marine erosion(wave energy).

  • In this paper, the regression rate of the End-Burning Hybrid Rocket with variation of swirl intensity was investigated experimentally with the variation of fuel diameter, injector shape and angle. When fuel grain diameter is large, fuel mass flow rate increases. And the injector diameter increase, fuel regression rate decrease. The impinging effect of oxidizer flow on fuel surface for fuel combustion efficiency is stronger than swril effect in this End-burning propulsion system. The relation between the regression rate, oxidizer mass flux and swirl intensity was obtained.

  • An experimental investigation was conducted to clarify the combustion characteristics of Polyethylene-GOX(PE-GOX) hybrid motor using a single-port fuel grain configuration. Data from the experiments were analyzed to evaluate the length-averaged regression rate of PE-GOX propellants. Based on the existing theories, the empirical regression rate formulas provided from Marxman[3,4] and Altman[14] showed good concordance with the PE-GOX experiments. The accuracy of the regression rate was then evaluated and compared with the measured one. As a result, Marxman's model was somewhat more precise than Altman's model in these experiments. Moreover, the consideration of the empirical regression rate showed that O/F ratio has minor variation due to the quasi constant inflow of the fuel during motor firing.
