Gesture Recognition Using Zernike Moments Masked By Duel Ring (이중 링 마스크 저니키 모멘트를 이용한 손동작 인식)

  • Generally, when we apply zernike moments value for matching, we can use those moments value obtained from projecting image information under circumscribed circle to zernike basis function. However, the problem is that the power of discrimination can be reduced because hand images include lots of overlapped information due to its special characteristic. On the other hand, when distinguishing hand poses, information in specific area of image information except for overlapped information can increase the power of discrimination. In this paper, in order to solve problems like those, we design R3 ring mask by combining image obtained from R2 ring mask, which can weight information of the power of discrimination and image obtained from R1 ring mask, which eliminate the overlapped information. The moments which are obtained by R3 ring mask decrease operational time by reducing dimension through principle component analysis. In order to confirm the superiority of the suggested method, we conducted some experiments by comparing our method to other method using seven different hand poses.

An Efficient Resource Reservation Scheme based on Gray-Cell in Wireless Mobile Networks (그레이 셀을 이용한 무선 이동 네트워크에서의 효율적인 자원 예약 방안)

  • In order to provide continuous QoS guaranteed to a mobile user, it is required to deploy some kind of mechanisms which reserves resources in advance at the locations to which the mobile user is expected to move. An important issue with regards to these mechanisms is to minimize the waste of resources caused by redundant reservations while keeping up the QoS guaranteed services to the user In this paper, we propose a wireless network domain structure which deploys a special cell, called “a gray cell”. The boundaries of two or more neighboring domains are surrounded by the gray cells, and the gray cells are supposed to belong to all of its neighboring domains. Based on this wireless domain structure, we propose a mechanism which completely removes the waste of redundant resource reservation in the wireless network domain while greatly reducing the risk of reservation disruption caused by inter-domain handover. Using simulation, it is shown that the proposed mechanism can deal with inter-domain handover as effectively as it does with intra-domain handover. It is also presented that the proposed mechanism outperforms existing mechanisms with respect to reservation disruption time and packet losses caused by handovers.

Efficiency Pixel Recomposition Algorithm for Fractional Motion Estimation (부화소 움직임 추정을 위한 효과적인 화소 재구성 알고리즘)

  • In an H.264/AVC video encoder, the motion estimation at fractional pixel accuracy improves a coding efficiency and image quality. However, it requires additional computation overheads for fractional search and interpolation, and thus, reducing the computation complexity of fractional search becomes more important. This paper proposes a Pixel Re-composition Fractional Motion Estimation (PRFME) algorithm for an H.264/AVC video encoder. Fractional Motion Estimation performs interpolation for the overlapped pixels which increases the computational complexity. PRFME can reduce the computational complexity by eliminating the overlapped pixel interpolation. Compared with the fast full search, the proposed algorithm can reduce 18.1% of computational complexity, meanwhile, the maximum PSNR degradation is less than 0.067dB. Therefore, the proposed PRFME algorithm is quite suitable for mobile applications requiring low power and complexity.

  • Volunteer computing is a computing paradigm in which the operations of a large-scale application are processed using idle resources of Internet-connected computers. The redundant-work distribution techniques used in the volunteer computing environment cause some problems like delay of the work completion time or inefficiency of the work execution due to continuous requests of the work redistribution because the techniques do not consider the characteristics of works and dynamic resources. To cope with such problems this paper suggests a P2P based regional matchmaking technique which can redistribute works in consideration of the characteristics of the works and the participant resources. The techniques consist of the profiles for works/resources, the module for monitoring the available resources spaces, the protocols for the matching request/reply, the module for match-ratio calculation, and so on.

Implementing 3DoF+ 360 Video Compression System for Immersive Media (실감형 미디어를 위한 3DoF+ 360 비디오 압축 시스템 구현)

  • System for three degrees of freedom plus (3DoF+) and 6DoF requires multi-view high resolution 360 video transmission to provide user viewport adaptive 360 video streaming. In this paper, we implement 3DoF+ 360 video compression system which removes the redundancy between multi-view videos and merges the residual into one video to provide high quality 360 video corresponding to an user's head movement efficiently. Implementations about 3D warping based redundancy removal method between 3DoF+ 360 videos and residual extraction and merger are explained in this paper. With the proposed system, 20.14% of BD-rate reduction in maximum is shown compared to traditional high-efficiency video coding (HEVC) based system.

Mapping Cache for High-Performance Memory Mapped File I/O in Memory File Systems (메모리 파일 시스템 기반 고성능 메모리 맵 파일 입출력을 위한 매핑 캐시)

  • The desire to access data faster and the growth of next-generation memories such as non-volatile memories, contribute to the development of research on memory file systems. It is recommended that memory mapped file I/O, which has less overhead than read-write I/O, is utilized in a high-performance memory file system. Memory mapped file I/O, however, brings a page table overhead, which becomes one of the big overheads that needs to be resolved in the entire file I/O performance. We find that same overheads occur unnecessarily, because a page table of a file is removed whenever a file is opened after being closed. To remove the duplicated overhead, we propose the mapping cache, a technique that does not delete a page table of a file but saves the page table to be reused when the mapping of the file is released. We demonstrate that mapping cache improves the performance of traditional file I/O by 2.8x and web server performance by 12%.

  • In recent years, distributed computing environments have been radically changing to a structure of global, heterogeneous, federative and wide-area systems. This structure's environments consist of a let of objects which are implemented on telecommunication network to provide a wide range of services. Furthermore, all of objects existing on the earth have the duplicated characteristics according to how to categorize their own names or properties. But, the existing naming or trading mechanism has not supported the binding services of duplicated objects, because of deficiency of independent location service. Also, if the duplicated objects which is existing on different nodes provide the same service, it is possible to distribute the client requests considering each system's load. For this reason, we designed and implemented a new model that can not only support the location management of replication objects, but also provide the dynamic binding service of objects located in a system with minimum overload for maintaining load balancing among nodes in wide-area object computing environments. Our model is functionally divided into two parts; one part is to obtain an unique object handle of replicated objects with same property as a naming and trading service, and the other is to search one or more contact addresses by a location service using a given object handle. From a given model mentioned above, we present the procedures for the integrated binding mechanism in design phase, that is, Naming/Trading Service and Location Service. And then, we described in details the architecture of components for Integrated Binding Service implemented. Finally, we showed our implement environment and executing result of our model.

VLSI Design of Parallel Scheme for Comparison of Multiple Digital Signals (다중 디지털 신호의 비교를 위한 병렬 기법의 VLSI 설계)

  • This paper proposes a new algorithm for comparing amplitude between multiple digital input signals and its digital logic architecture. After simultaneously comparing multiple inputs, the proposed algorithm can provide the information of the largest (or smallest) value among them by using a simple digital logic function. The drawback of the method is to increase hardware resource. To overcome this we propose a reuse method of the overlapped logic operation. The proposed method focuses on enhancing the operational clock frequency, in other words decreasing combinational delay time. After implementing the comparing method with HDL (hardware description language), we experiment on it with environment of Cyclone III EP3C40F324A7 FPGA of Altera Inc. In case of 4 input signals, it can increase the operational speed as mush as 1.66 times with 1.20 times the hardware resource. In case of 8, it can also have 2.29 times the clock frequency and 2.15 times the hardware resource.

Hybrid Value Predictor using Dynamic Classification (동적 분류를 이용한 하이브리드 결과 값 예측기)

  • 슈퍼스칼라 프로세서의 성능을 향상시키기 위해서는 데이터 종속성에 의한 장애를 제거해야 한다. 최근 여러 논문들은 이러한 데이터 종속성을 제거하기 위해서 명령어의 결과 값을 예상하는 메커니즘을 제안하였다. 이러한 예상 메커니즘 중 여러 예측기를 혼합해서 사용하는 하이브리드 방법은 각 하나의 예측기만을 사용하는 방법보다 더 좋은 성능을 얻을 수 있다. 그러나 그러한 하이브리드 예측기는 명령어를 중복해서 저장하여 많은 하드웨으 크기를 요구한다. 본 논문에서는 여러 예측기의 장점을 이용하여 높은 성능을 얻을 수 있는 새로운 하이브리드 예측 메커니즘을 제안한다. 또한 예상이 자주 틀리는 명령어를 동적으로 찾아내어 예상하지 않음으로서 잘못 예상시 발생하는 misprediction 페널티를 낮추고 예상 정확도를 높인다. 시뮬레이션 결과 SPECint95 벤치마크프로그램에 대해 제안한 하이브리드 예측기에서 예측율은 평균 79%에서 90%로 향상하였고, misprediction rate는 평균 12%에서 2%로 낮추었다.

Adaptive Regularized Enhancement of Wavelet Compressed Video (웨이블릿 압축 동영상의 정칙화 기반 적응적 개선에 관한 연구)

  • The three-dimensional (3D) wavelet transform with motion compensation is suitable for very high quality video coding due to both spatial and temporal decorrelations. However, it still suffers from image degradation such as ringing artifact and afterimage because of the loss of high frequency components by quantization. This paper proposes an iterative regularized enhancement of the motion-compensated 3D wavelet coded video. We also propose the adaptive implementation of the constraints for the regularization. It selectively suppresses the high frequency component along only the corresponding edge direction.
