This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary Hwangto on growth performance and body composition in broiler chicks. A total of 216 one-day old 'Ross' broilers were assigned to 6 treatments in a completely randomized design. The six dietary treaoents were control no Hwangto added and diets containing 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 4.0 and 8.0% of Hwangto supplementation. The weight gain of broilers tended to reduce with increasing level of Hwangto. However, there were no significant differences in feed intake and feed conversion ratio of broilers fed control and diets containing different level of Hwangto supplementation (P>0.05). There were no significant differences in TBA value of meat from broilers fed control and Hwangto supplemented diets (P>0.05). The meat cholesterol content was significantly lower in Hwangto treatment than of the control (P>.0.05). $NH_3$ concentration in feces was reduced in all Hwangto treatments (P<0.05). The Mg and Mn concentrations of meat we.e significantly higher in 8.0% Hwangto treatment than that of the control (P<0.05). The large intestine weight was significantly reduced in 2.0, 4.0 and 8.0% treatments (P<0.05).
As a eco-friendly material, Hwangtoh (red clay) has been studied for complete or partial replacement of portland cement. Most of existing studies focused on the material properties of the Hwangtoh concrete including the compressive strength, drying shringkage, and creep. In the present study, the shear strength of the beams made with the Hwangtoh concrete was tested. Further, bond strength of tension re-bars embedded in the Hwangtoh concrete was tested. One of the concrete tested consisted of activated Hwangtoh replacing 20% of the cement. The other consisted 100% activated. Hwangtoh replacing all the cement. The beam specimens were tested under two point static loading. The test result showed that the shear strength of activated Hwangtoh concrete beams replacing 20% and 100% of cement was equivalent to that of the ordinary portland cement concrete beam. However, the bond strength of activated Hwangtoh concrete replacing 100% of the cement was less than that of the ordinary portland cement concrete.

PSD (particle size distribution) for 2,000 mg/$\ell$ natural loess in seawater showed normal distribution cure at 0 minute settling time, accompanying with very large particle distribution range with its mean particle diameter of 31.6 $\mu$m and coencient of variance of $72.6\%$, With elapsed time it showed that the PSD was rapidly changed from normal distribution cure to abnormal distribution curve, steepened the right-hand side of it and its coefficient of variance was getting increased because of rapid settling of large size particles, Cumulative weight distribution showed that 2,000 mg/$\ell$ natural loess in seawater was almost $100\%$ constituted of particles bigger than 20 $\mu$m in diameter. Ratio of $V_s/(D_{bm})^{1/2}$ for loess particles in seawater was increased with increase of particle size in geometrical progression. Almost all loess particles in seawater had Stokes settling velocity not less than 2,255 times of Brownian diffusion coefficient, There was almost to EDL (about 0.4 nm) around natural loess particles in seawater, Thus, there was always LVDW attractive force between loess particles approaching each other in seawater, and almost no EDL repulsive force. Loess particles were not always in the condition of easy floe formation. Concentration of natural loess in seawater increasing from 400 mg/$\ell$ to 10,000 mg/$\ell$, characteristics of the settling was changed from Type I settling (discrete settling) to Type II settling (flocculation settling). PVD (particle volume distribution) showed that natural loess particles in seawater were largely constituted of two types of particles, such as rapidly settling particles and suspended and dispersed particles for a long time. Amount of the latter was much less than that of the former.

Recently, interest in eco-friendly structure has been increased and many researches about hwang-toh are being actively processed. However, most researches are about material properties of hwang-toh, and researches about structural performance are insufficient. Moreover, the usability of activated hwang-toh is being identified in some ways, but its use rate is low in economic aspect in reality. Non-activated hwang-toh is expected to be advantageous in respect of economy but its material and structural performance have not been identified. Therefore, the effect of activated hwang-toh and non-activated hwang-toh on flexural capacity of hwang-toh concrete beam is analyzed in this research.

In this study, hardened loess bodies, which did not compose of cement or any chemical binder, were made and tested to evaluate the physical properties such as slump, air content, and compressive strength. Addition of a natural binding material to mixture of loess and lime showed better performance in physical properties. However a lime among natural binding materials is considered as a superior binder to improve the properties of the hardened bodies. According to the experimental results, mixing proportion with 45% of W/B ratio, $285kg/m^3$ of water content, and 60% lime substitution ratio was recommended to acquire the good performance of physical properties for the hardened loess bodies.
Purpose: For the health of pet dogs and to reduce harm to humans, we investigated the preference of pet dogs on cushions made from functional ocher textile, which is known to be beneficial to human health. Methods: The preference of 12 small dogs between cushions made using functional ocher textile and normal yellow colored fabrics was observed. Results: The observation study showed 83.3% preference on cushions made from functional ocher textile where dogs rested or slept mostly. The biting behavior was improved by 83.3%. After using the functional cushions, four dogs with eye disease, one with eczema, and two with allergy showed improvements while others showed no improvement. After the experience, 50% of dogs became quieter. 87.5% of dogs showed more mild temperament. Conclusions: The functional ocher cushions showed preferences by dogs as well as brought positive improvements with the temperament and health conditions. This study proves to be a valuable fundamental research in this field of functional ocher cushions.

In this work, the adsorption characteristic of the composites by adding loess with aluminum ("Al-loess") and Loess with lanthanum ("La-loess") which have been developed to effectively remove phosphorus, the substance which causes the eutrophic lake has been evaluated. According to the result of the work, as the amount of aluminum or lanthanum put in 1g of loess increases, the combined amount also increases accordingly. When the loess with no aluminum or lanthanum attached was used, the rate of removing phosphorus was different in comparison with the case of using the composites of 0.5, 1 and 2 mg of aluminum and 0.5, 1 and 3 mg of lanthanum in each gram of loess. It was observed the amount required to remove 1 mg $PO_4^{3-}$-P/L of phosphorus completely is approximately 2 to 10 times less for the composite of Al-loess than loess alone. Also, in case of the composite of La-loess, the amount was decreased by about 1.5 to 10 times. In order to observe the rate of adsorption phosphorus with Al-loess and La-loess, the composites were used for the observation up to three times by water washing. As a result, the water washing of the composite did not affect phosphorus removal. According to the effect of pH, there is a high rate of removing phosphorus in the pH range of 5~8. It seems that the developed composite will effectively remove phosphorus when it is spread in the natural water system. Also, since Al-loess and La-loess composites are rapidly precipitated within 30 minutes, it is stabilized quickly at the bottom of the eutrophic lake and becomes responsible for the removal of phosphorus in water and eluted from the water and the sedimentary layer.
This study was carried out to estimate the effects of loess ($0\%$, $1.5\%$, $3\%$ and $5\%$) on the growth performance, meat quality, and blood composition of broiler chicks. A total of 320 broiler chicks at 1 day of age were divided into 4 groups to feed basal diet (control) and basal diet plus $1.5\%$ to $5.0\%$ loess respectively for 6 weeks. The body weight gain and feed conversion rate were not significantly different among the groups. The contents of moisture and crude fat of meats were significantly different in treatments when compared to that of the control group (P<0.05), but did not show any differences among the groups. The pH values of meats were not different among the treatments. However, water holding capacity was higher in all treated groups than the control. The L of meat color was also increased in all treated groups, but a and b of meat color were not different among the groups. In addition, the contents of unsaturated fatty acid content of meat were higher in the treated groups than the control. The concentrations of HDL cholesterol and triglyceride were significantly lower in all treated groups than the control (P<0.05). Finally, the contents of moisture of excreta were significantly lower in all treated groups than control (P<0.05). Taken together, it was concluded that loess did not improved the growth performance, but had effects on the improvement of meat quality.
Recently loess are used as design and construction materials in some construction sites. However, many problems have come to the fore because the loess was considered merely as ordinary soil, not taking the engineering characteristics of loess into account at all. The purpose of this study is to effectively mix and use the oyster shell-which is the byproduct of oyster farming in the clean and pure water zone of Southwestern region-with loess in a bid to increase the utility, considering that loess itself has the limit for civil engineering purpose, and research the usability of oyster shell as an alternative material for construction.
