  • In this paper, we propose a new method to debond between mixed finite elements for porous media in ABAQUS (2014). ABAQUS just provides debonding algorithm for the u-p model using cohesive elements in standard version. However, this approach has a drawback that it is hard to simulate complex debonding problems like element separation, rigid body motion, and contact between separated elements in standard version. ABAQUS-explicit can resolve these complex problems, but cohesive elements for the u-p model cannot be applied. We introduce a new algorithm for debonding for porous media instead of using cohesive elements. In this method, subroutines VUMAT to apply constitutive models and VDISP to separate elements in ABAQUS are used to simulate debonding problems. In addition, a simple 2-D example is demonstrated in the ABAQUS-explicit solver.

  • In this study, a new and efficient harmonic axisymmetric shell element for static and dynamic analysis Is proposed. The present element considering shear strain is based on a modified mixed variational principle in which the independent unknowns are only the Quantities prescribable at the shell edges. Unlike existing hybrid-mixed axisymmetric shell elements, the present element introduces additional nodeless degrees for displacement field Interpolation In order to enhance the numerical performance. The stress parameters are eliminated by the stationary condition and the nodeless degrees are condensed out by the Guyan reduction. Through several numerical examples, the hybrid-miked shell element with the additional nodeless degrees and the consistent stress parameters is shown to be efficient and yield very accurate results for static and vibration analysis.

  • A mixed type finite element method is applied to the nonuniform shear warping beam theory which is very useful for the structural analysis of thin-walled sectional beams considering the shear deformation. As known generally, it is shown that the mixed type finite element method, compared with the displacement type one, can give more balanced accuracy of results in calculating the stresses and displacements of the structure. In this paper, one typical example, the flexural-torsional problem of a discontinuously variable sectional beam under coupled end torsional moments, is selected and analyzed to validate the usefulness of the developed beam element.

  • This study presented an modeling method for the connections in mixed structure with reinforced concrete columns and steel beam using finite element method. The contacting surfaces between concrete and steel are modeled using master-slave contact algorithm and the incompatible mode elements were used in the steel tube subjected to bending. The characteristics of mixed structure was that diaphragm was used for transferring force from beam to column. The three dimensional nonlinear analysis was performed and the analytical results compared with experimental results in order to prove modeling method.

  • Cracks in rubber bonded to a rigid material such as steel are analyzed with the aid of a mixed finite element technique. Firstly the weak form is derived for finite element analysis of an incompressible material, and the Mooney-Rivlin form is assumed for the constitutive modeling of rubber. The numerical results from finite element analysis is examined to confirm the accuracy and convergence of solution by way of comparison to other numerical results. The interpretation of the J-integral for large elastic deformation as the energy release rate is confirmed, and the J-integral is calculated for varing crack length. The crack growth stability is discussed using the result of finite element analysis.

  • It is a tedious and excessive time consuming process to model the local area of crack tip part of structures in calculation of stress intensity factors by FEM. So, in this paper, the hybrid method of FEM and BEM approach was formulated to overcome this type of problems. The multi-domained BEM was adopted to simplify the modelling process of complex geometry and singularity characteristics of crack tip part and the ordinary FEM modelling was used in the rest part. The example calculations shows very good results compared with analytic solutions and other numerical method.
