A Fundamental Study for the Phenomenology of Communication (커뮤니케이션 현상학에 관한 기초 연구)

  • The phenomenology of communication represents a starting point in the union of consciousness and experience, analogue and digit, expression and perception, person and lived-world, rhetoric and ethic, constitute human communication. A phenomenological definition of communication requires that analysis proceed through a phenomenological description, reduction, interpretation. This analysis thus far has taken up the general issue of fact versus value, consisting in a subdivision into intention and punctuation on the factual side, and convention and legitimation on the value side. It has treated of the relationships among intention and metaphysics, punctuation and epistemology, convention and logic, and legitimation and axiology.

  • The aim of this study is to examine the limits and problems of researchers that appear in the papers of applied qualitative research by phenomenological methods. Using phenomenological methods in the field of Pedagogy, pedagogical phenomenology is not to approach pedagogical issues that are closely related to human life through scientism or positivism, but to explain them in things themselves. The problem, however, is that cases misunderstood and distorted in the essential meaning of phenomenology are happening as domestic researchers are applying pure phenomenology(the philosophical phenomenology) to the field of phenomenology of practice(the pedagogical phenomenology). Especially, these researchers show some errors caused by lack of basic understanding about research logic and research techniques in qualitative research methodology. Thus if a researcher carry out a qualitative study by using phenomenological methods, she or he needs insights in analysing and interpreting the essence of the various phenomena appearing from the participants by comparing in with her or his own lives.

  • The purpose of the present study is to understand the cultural aspects of the games through the logic and methods of phenomenological study for online games and to propose phenomenological research methods to many researchers performing various studies on the characteristics, addiction, culture, nature, features and types of the players. In particular, the way was investigated to study the game culture through the logic and methods of phenomenological study. Phenomenological research methods will help how to understand the game as a way to understand the cultural context of the specific and vivid life of gamers experience and human reality. This study is expected to inspire continuously more interesting and persistent phenomenological studies of many researchers with interests in the new research methods.

  • This study is to review phenomenology as a legitimate research methodology in mathematics education. Phenomenology is considered a perspective which will be able to provide varieties of viewpoints for mathematics education. Phenomenology is a research about phenomena and experience, and phenomenological research is to reveal the meanings from persons who experience something that researcher is interested in. Through such review, this study is to identify if phenomenology has potential possibility to open as a qualitative research methodology in mathematics education. In order to doing this, this study has reviewed the trend of qualitative research methods in mathematics education, major concepts of phenomenology, phenomenological attitudes for phenomenological research, and the methods and procedures for phenomenological research. The major conclusions are as the followings: the focus of lived-experience in mathematics education, the importance of recognizing life world in mathematics education, and the essence of general phenomena and the meanings of experience general in mathematics education.

  • Phenomenological approach suggests a new dimension in landscape evaluation, which is a contrast to the existing scientific evaluation methods. The characteristics of the phenomenological approach is qualitative, holistic, open, and experiential, whereas that of the scientific approach is quantitative, reductive, closed, and experimental. In phenomenological approach, the average response of a group is not considered as meaningful in landscape evaluation. Instead, the individual response, experience, and feeling are considered as important. In phenomenological approach, people try to see the real world as it is, while scientists tend to simplify the real world in order to handle the complex Phenomena easily. Due to its holistic and qualitative nature, the phenomenological approach has limitations to be a practical landscape evaluation technique. However, recent research demonstrate the possibility of practical phenomenological landscape evaluation technique which is able to satisfy the criteria scientific methods should meet.

Validating Iconic Memory According to the Phenomenological and Ecological Criticisms (현상학적, 생태학적 비판에 기초한 영상기억의 타당성)

  • Since last several decades, iconic memory has been accepted theoretically valid for its role of the first storage mechanism in visual memory process. However, there have been relatively less interests in iconic memory among researchers than their interests in visual short- and long-term memory. Such little interests seem to arise from a lack of detailed understandings of theories and methodologies about iconic memory and visual persistence. This study aimed to achieve the understandings by reviewing theories and empirical studies of iconic memory and visual persistence. The study further discussed future direction of iconic memory research according to the essential aspects of phenomenological and ecological criticisms against the validity of iconic memory.

Convergent approach of phenomenological methodology about Emergency Nurses' experience of hospital violence (응급실 간호사들의 폭력 경험에 대한 현상학적 방법론의 융합적 접근)

  • The aim of this study was to know the experience of emergency nurses on hospital violence and violence's effect on nurses via convergent approach of phenomenological methodology to be known for a good method to study alive human's experience. This study is a qualitative study converged the phenomenological methods and 5 emergency nurses participated in an in-depth interview. From the transcript, 41 significant statements, 17 clusters of theme, 6 categories were extracted. The extracted categories are violence's background, emotional response, physical response, social response, passive coping and active coping. The hospital violence's negative effect on emergency nurses occurred in various sides and the countermeasure is required to prevent violence from hospital setting anymore.

A Phenomenological Study on the experience of the physically abused children (학대받은 아동에 대한 현상학적 연구)

  • This study is conducted to understand the meanings and nature of the experience of the physically abused children. This is a phenomenological study utilizing van Manen's method to present the children's inner world. The participants for this study were 10 children, in the age of 8 to 12, who were physically abused by their parents. Data were collected by using semi-structured interviews by the workers who regurally contacted children at the service agencies. Data were analyzed by using 'line by line' reflection by two graduate level students and by the researcher. Eight essential themes were drawn and used for the phenomenological understanding which reveals the meanings given by the children experiencing abuse. There were some suggestions for the abuse counsellors based on these findings.

  • 한강하구는 국가하천인 한강, 한강의 1지류인 임진강과 북한 황해도의 예성강이 만나 한강하류 수역을 형성하여 서해 중부해역과 합류하여 매우 복잡한 수리학적 특성을 지닌다. 또한 한강하구의 경우 교량, 수중보 등의 하천 구조물이 설치되어 있다. 수리학은 크게 수위와 관계되는 현상, 하상변화와 관계되는 현상, 외부 환경과 관계되는 현상으로 살펴 볼 수 있다(최계운, 2005). 하천구조물이 설치됨에 따라 구조물 주변에서 국부적으로 수위가 상승되거나 유속이 변화, 세굴현상 등의 하상 변화, 구조물 설치에 따른 생태계의 단절 현상 등 수리학적 현상에 영향을 미치게 된다. 한강하구는 이러한 복잡한 흐름현상에 더해 군사적으로 민감한 지역의 특성으로 현장의 접근성에 한계가 있어 이 지역의 연구조사는 더욱 어렵다. 그간 한강하구의 흐름 현상을 규명하기 위한 연구 방법으로 수치모의를 통한 다양한 연구가 진행되어 왔다. 수리학적 흐름 현상을 계산하기 위한 필수 조건인 하류경계조건 설정에도 어려움이 수반된다. 이 때문에 한강의 수리학적 수치모의 실험에 관한 연구들은 한강하구의 얕은 수심과 해석의 공간적 범위를 소홀히 하고, 공릉천 합류부를 기준으로 하류지점에 대해서는 인천 조위관측소의 조위자료를 사용하거나 하천정비기본계획상의 기점수위를 일괄적으로 적용하여 지점에 따른 수위의 차이를 적용하지 못하는 한계를 지닌다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 남북접경지역 접근의 어려움으로 인하여 발생되는 한강하구 흐름해석의 불확실성을 명확히 하기 위한 방안으로 한강하구지역에 해당 군부대와 군사정전위원회의 출입허가 승인을 얻어 현장조사를 실시하였다. 사전조사를 통하여 성동교, 대산교, 공릉천, 화도돈대, 철곶돈대 전방 수변, 애기봉전망대 전방 수변을 조사 지점으로 선정하였다. 기존 연구에서는 한강하구의 공릉천 합류부 지점을 하류경계조건으로 채택하고 있으나, 현장조사를 통하여 얻을 자료를 분석한 결과 공릉천 합류부 지점의 수위는 강우발생에 대한 하천의 영향을 받는 것으로 나타나 하류경계조건으로 적정하지 않은 것으로 판단되었으며, 공릉천보다 하류지역에 위치한 지역에 대하여 하류경계조건으로 적정한 지역을 찾을 수 있었다. 수치해석 시에는 공간적 범위와 연구의 목적을 고려하여 각 지점의 실제 관측 자료를 활용한 경계조건을 사용하는 것이 적합한 것으로 판단되며 보다 많은 현장조사와 특성분석을 통한 정확한 경계조건의 구축이 필요할 것으로 사료된다.

Phenomenological Research on Disability Acceptance and Recovery Experience for the Life-Care of Adolescents with Disabilities (장애청소년의 라이프 케어를 위한 장애수용과 회복경험에 대한 현상학적 연구)

  • This Study used phenomenological research method to understand disability acceptance and recovery experience for the life care of adolescents with disabilities. As a result, the study found four components: confusion and psychological anxiety due to disability, gradually accepting disability, strengthening motivation for recovery, overcoming disability, and returning to society. Psychological comfort was obtained through the support of the family and the psychological rapport between the therapists. The Youths with disabilities experienced a change in their perceptions of disability and hoped for life after discharge, overcoming frustration and showing their positive future. Based on the results of this study, we were able to understand the disability acceptance and recovery experience of adolescents with disabilities and identify the components of acceptance and recovery. The derived components can be used to guide disability acceptance and recovery interventions for the care of youth with disabilities.
