개인의 피부특성을 반영한 화장품에 대한 관심이 증가함에 따라 본 연구에서는 개인의 특성을 분류하기 위해 한의학 변증(辨證) 개념을 도입하여 피부특징 및 대상자 특성을 구분하고자 하였다. 변증 중 노화와 관련 있는 음허(陰虛)변증을 선정하였고, 건강한 40대와 50대 여성 218명을 음허변증으로 구분하여 피부특성과 설문응답패턴을 분석하였다. 피부특성은 Corneometer^®, Cutometer^®, Janus lll 측정기기를 활용하여 보습, 탄력, 모공, 주름, 색소침착, 피부색 및 피지 항목을 측정하였다. 설문은 음허설문지(yin-deficiency questionnaire, YDQ)와 피부상태설문지(modified skin type questionnaire)로 구성되어 있는데, 음허변증 여부에 따른 교차비(odds ratio) 분석과 유의한 피부특성 차이를 나타내는 설문 분석의 두 단계로 구분하여 분석하였다. 그 결과, 음허로 변증된 집단은 아닌 집단에 비해 보습과 탄력이 감소하고, 피부 붉기가 증가하는 유의한 차이를 확인하였으며, 얼굴 열감과 불면, 신체 수분 감소 항목에서 불편감을 호소하였고 피부 민감성 항목과 연관이 있음을 확인하였다. 본 연구 결과를 활용하여 음허변증과 관련된 설문 중 수분, 탄력, 붉기의 피부특성을 나타내는 설문을 바탕으로 해당 고객에게 제품을 추천할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

본 연구는 연교 추출물과 연교 추출물에서 분리한 활성물질의 멜라닌 생성 억제 효과에 관한 것이다. 연교 추출물은 $0.1{\sim}1.0%$ (v/v)에서 세포독성이 없는 것을 확인하였으며 이를 바탕으로 멜라닌 생성억제 실험결과 1.0 %에서 $63.1{\pm}3.1%$ 저해 효과를 확인하였다. 또한 활성물질을 분리하여 $^1H-NMR,\;^{13}C-NMR$, Mass analysis 등의 기기분석 결과 리그난 계열의 활성물질인 4-[(3,4-Dimethoxyphenyl)methyl)]dihydro-3-[(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)methyl]-2(3H)-furanone (arctigenin)으로 동정되었다. 활성물질에 대한 멜라닌 저해효과를 확인한 결과 농도 의존적으로 $3.0{\mu}g/mL$에서 $52.7{\pm}3.1%$를 저해하는 것을 확인하였다. 또한 연교 추출물을 3 % 함유한 크림의 미백효과에 대한 임상실험을 진행한 결과 전문의의 육안평가와 기기평가 모두 통계적으로 유의한 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 결론적으로 연교 추출물은 미백 효능을 갖는 화장품 소재로서의 개발 가능성이 클 것으로 기대된다.

산삼은 고유의 생약으로 민간 또는 한방에서 효능을 인정받아 왔으나 산삼의 희귀성으로 인하여 산삼에 대한 연구가 활발하지 못하였다. 따라서 본 실험은 식물 조직 배양 기술을 이용하여 산삼 부정근을 대량으로 배양하고 추출하여 화장품 원료로서의 적용 가능성을 연구하였다. 본 실험에서 사용한 산삼 부정근은 강원도 평창에서 채취한 110년생 천종삼으로 산삼으로부터 유래된 캘러스에서 부정근을 유도한 후 절취하여 생물 배양기에서 액체 현탁액으로 대량 배양하였다. 약 5주간의 배양기간을 거쳐 증식된 산삼 부정근을 세척하여 건조시킨 후 추출하여 산삼 부정근 추출물을 얻었다. 산삼 부정근 추출물의 미백 효과 측정을 위하여 tyrosinase 억제 실험과 DOPA 자동산화 그리고 B-16 melanoma cell를 이용한 미백 실험을 실시하였고 유해성 검증을 위해서 안전성 실험과 세포 독성 실험을 실시하였다. in vitro 상의 유해성 실험은 transformed mouse fibroblast L929를 배양하여 NR assay, MTT assay를, in vivo 상의 안전성 실험은 인체 첩포를 이용한 Patch test를 실시하여 피부 반응의 관찰을 통해서 자극 혹은 알레르기성 반응의 발생여부를 실시한 결과 무해하였으며 melanin 생성 억제 실험 결과 미백효과가 우수한 것으로 나타났다.

본 연구에서는 한방 천연 미백 소제를 개발하기 위하여 삼릉추출물의 미백 효과에 대하여 연구하였다. 삼릉추출물은 프리 라디칼 소거활성(DPPH)에서 $IC_{50}=638{\mu}g/mL$, superoxide radicals 소거활성은 $IC_{50}=21.7{\mu}g/mL$을 나타냈다. 삼릉추출물의 B16 melanoma 세포에서의 멜라닌 생합성 저해효과는 $100{\mu}g/mL 삼릉추출물을 48 h 처리한 세포에서는 멜라닌 합성량이 27% 감소되었다. 삼릉 추출물은 농도에 비례하여 B16 melanoma 세포내의 타이로시네이즈 활성을 저해하였으며, western blot을 이용하여 타이로시네이즈와 타이로시나아제 관련 단백질(TRP-1)의 발현감소를 확인하였다. 또한, RT-PCR을 이용하여 삼릉추출물이 멜라닌 생성 과정에 관련하는 유전자 발현을 조사한 결과 타이로시네이즈와 TRP-1의 mRNA발현을 억제하는 것을 확인하였다. 그러므로 삼릉추풀물은 항산화 효과와 함께 멜라닌 저해 효과가 우수하여 새로운 미백 화장품으로 응용할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.

Objective : The primary purpose of present study is to evaluate the effect of herbal cosmetics containing Cortex Betulae Platyphyllae extract complex on acne. The second is to comparatively evaluate safety of this cosmetics. Methods : We opened collecting of applicant that men and women(the 18~35-year-old) with acne on face. We selected subjects who came up to entire inclusion criteria and were not included in the exclusion criteria. We checked changes of Acne Global score, skin sebum, moisture, pores counts, Skindex-29 for 8 weeks. Results : 1. Comparison of changes in Global score, it declined in both experimental group and control group. But Experimental group showed a statistically significant decline than control group. 2. Comparison of changes in sebum and moisture, it declined in both experimental group and control group. But there was no statistically significant difference between those two groups. 3. Comparison of changes in erythema normal area, it declined in both experimental group and control group. But there was no statistically significant difference between those two groups. 4. Comparison of changes in pore counts, it increased statistically significantly in both experimental group and control group. 5. Comparison of changes in Skindex-29, it declined in both experimental group and control group. But there was no statistically significant difference between those two groups. Conclusion : Considering the above experiments, it is suggested that herbal cosmetics containing Cortex Betulae Platyphyllae extract complex have a positive effect on acne.

Traditional Asian medicine has an extensive evidence base built upon thousands of years of experience within Asia, of curing various diseases. Only recently, within the past two centuries, have modern medical scientists developed interest in traditional Asian medicine. Asian Medicine seems to be regarded only as an adjunctive medicine and viewed as alargely un-proven alternative medicine to complement western medicine, used in some cases to establish a new paradigm of "integrative medicine". This article reviews how Korean herbal cosmetics emerged by applying traditional Asian medicine to the science of cosmetics. The characteristics of Korean herbal cosmetics are examined through examples of history, concepts and traditions. With the advancements in biotechnology, studies are now being conducted on the dermatological effects and processing methods of herbal ingredients, including ginseng. The authors explain the current research on the identification on the active ingredients of herbs, extraction methods, and bio-processing of ingredients to improve the biological efficacies of herbs on the skin. A summary of studies focused on modern reinterpretations of ageing theories, such as 'Seven year aging cycle', are provided. In conclusion, the development of Korean cosmetics products are based on the accumulated knowledge of thousands of years of experience including; 1) practical heritage of traditional Asian medicines such as Donguibogam; 2) excellent medicinal plants, such as ginseng, which are native to Korea; and 3) innovative attempts to modernize materials, processes, and principles.

Objectives : We investigated the physiological effects of the cosmetic products with Saccharomyces fermented modified Kyungohkgo extract (SFKE) for 6 weeks on human skin by using non-invasive instruments. Methods : We measured physiological effects such as a skin moisturizing effect, an elasticity and an evenness on the skin of older than 40 years volunteers(female, n=25) who were applied with the cosmetic products containing SFKE for 6 weeks. Results : We observed the physiological effect after using the cosmetic products for 6 weeks. After using the cosmetic product, the skin moisture contents were increased in human skin. The skin elasticity were not only increased in face skin through using the product, but also evenness of skin were improved. Conclusions : We concluded that the cosmetic products containing the SFKE had and physiological effects on the human face skin.

Objectives: The purpose of this clinical research was to investigate the effects of herbal cosmetics containing Caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE), an ingredient compound of various herbs including Vespae Nidus, on the Whitening Effects. Methods: A total of 20 subjects who visited Pusan National University Hospital from March 2nd, 2017 to April 11th, 2017 were included. In this study, we evaluated the visual evaluation, the melanin index (M) and erythema index (E) through skin analysis equipment, the subjective whitening improvement analysis, and the adverse reaction according to product use. Statistical analysis was performed with independent t-test and Mann-Whitney's U test. Statistical significance was achieved if the probability was less than 5% (p<0.05) Results: As a result of the visual evaluation, it was effective in improving skin whitening. The subjective whitening improvement analysis also showed positive results. However, no statistically significant differences were found between the test and control cosmetics in the melanin index (M) and erythema index (E) through skin analysis equipment. In the safety evaluation, some adverse reactions were reported, but no significant were observed directly from cosmetics. Conclusions: Considering the above results, we have confirmed the possibility of herbal cosmetics containing containing CAPE of Vespae Nidus Extracts.

Objectives : We investigated the aniti-aging effects of the cosmetic products with Pinus densiflora on human skin by using non-invasive instruments. Methods : We made cosmetic products containing the extract of the needles of red pine, and measured physiological effects such as skin wrinkles, clarity, evenness, lifting, corneocyte exfoliation after volunteers applied the cosmetic products for 8 weeks. Results : We observed a skin lifting effect and a decrease in corneocytes amount after using the cosmetic products for 4 weeks. And the wrinkles, evenness and clarity of face skin improved significantly. Conclusion : We concluded that the cosmetic products containing the extract of the needles of reel pine had an anti-aging effect on the human face skin.
