The severity of smartphone dependence among early adolescents, known as the most vulnerable group to smartphone addiction, is increasing. In this study, the factors affecting the smartphone dependence of early adolescents were analyzed by separating into elementary school and middle school students. For this purpose, the 1st data from Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey(2018) was used. The subjects of the study were 2,607 4th grade from elementary school and 2,590 1st grade from middle school. Factors that affect to smartphone dependence of both elementary and middle school students in common were gender, self-esteem, aggression, time spent with parents, and negative parenting attitude. On the other hand, region(city size), economic level, health status, school life satisfaction, and relationship with teachers were significant in the smartphone dependence of elementary school students, but not in middle school students. In middle school students, positive parenting attitudes were significant. Based on the results of the analysis, implications for policy establishment and social service provision were drawn to encourage the proper use of the by early youth.

This study was to investigate factors influencing the school adjustment according to gender and body mass index (BMI) of middle school students who participated in the 2nd-wave Korea Children and Youth Panel Study (KCYPS). This study used a crosssectional design with secondary analysis with KCYPS. The variables were parental interest, behavioral problem, aggression, attention problem, somatic symptom, social withdrawal, depression, and academic achievement. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regressions. School adjustment was significantly associated with academic achievement high, explaining 11.3~19.1% of the variance in boys. School adjustment was significantly associated with attention problem, explaining 14.9~42.4% of the variance in girls. Factors influencing school adjustment were significantly different according to gender and BMI. To improve the school adjustment, it is necessary to develop gender-specific school adjustment promotion programs according to BMI.
This research investigated the influence of subjective well-being on attitude towards minority group members. In a cross-sectional data, the higher subjective well-being predicted more positive cognitive beliefs, affective feelings, and behavioral intentions towards foreign laborers and children of international couples. The causal link from subjective well-being to greater tolerance for cultural diversity was found again in a large longitudinal sample. The rate of life satisfaction increase from Time 1 to Time 2 significantly predicted multicultural receptiveness at Time 2. Overall, the findings suggest that subjective well-being may contribute to the formation of favorable attitude towards minority group members.
The purposes of this study are to analyze how effects of parental attitudes, Sense of Community on adolescents school adjustment and verified was the mediating effect of Sense of Community between parenting attitudes and adolescents school adjustment. For data analysis, we have use the first year data for the 1st year middle schol students from 'the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey, conducted in 2010' by the National Youth Policy Institute. The study shows that parenting attitudes and Sense of Community have a significant effect on adolescents school adjustment. And, the Sense of Community have a significant partial mediating effect among on parental attitudes and school adjustment. Thus, efforts to foster individual's Sense of Community and develop desirable parenting attitudes should be made to enhance the level of school adjustment.

This study attempted to derive high-risk groups of adolescent status delinquency(ASD) and to identify related factors. This study was conducted with 1,979 adolescents enrolled in the first year of high school, data from the 7th year of the 4th grade panel of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey. Classification and regression tree analysis method was used. The ASD group was 264, which was 13.3% of the total. The high-risk group for ASD is that is male who has a low perception of positive parenting style. Positive parenting style was found to be the most important influencing factor in ASD, followed by gender, emotional problems, relationship with teacher, and achievement value. In order to prevent ASD, it is necessary to develop a parenting education program and an intervention program specialized for male adolescents. In addition, interventions that comprehensively deal with emotional problems such as depression and social withdrawal are required, going beyond the previous interventions that focused on aggression. In particular, it has been found that relationship with teachers is the most important influencing factor in the school environment. Through education on the causes and consequences of ASD and training on counseling techniques, the promotion of relationships with teachers will act as a protective factor to prevent ASD.
The purpose of this study was to explore the concurrent and lagged effects of parental neglect and abuse on longitudinal changes in late childhood school adjustment. This study utilized survey data from the fourth through seventh iterations of the Korean Child Youth Panel Study conducted on fourth-year elementary school students through first-year middle school students. The data was analyzed using latent growth modeling. The results were as follows. First, the level of school adjustment decreased gradually. Second, both neglect and abuse had concurrent effects on school adjustment. Third, neglect had lagged effects on school adjustment but abuse did not. The paper discusses the implications of these results. The results of this study can be used to better understand and support children who have suffered neglect or abuse adjust to school during late childhood.

The purpose of the present study was to examine the causal relationship between aggression and mobile phone dependency among high school students and to test the mediating effect of self-esteem, and to draw out implications in order to encourage proper use of mobile phone. In this paper, we proposed a research model between aggression, self-esteem and mobile phone dependency. The present study analyzed the fourth, fifth, and sixth wave data from KCYPS 2010, using the structural equation modeling. The primary results were as follows. First, the effect of high school students' aggression on mobile phone dependency was not significant. Second, high school students' aggression had a significantly negative effect on self-esteem. Third, high school students' self-esteem had a significantly positive effect on mobile phone dependency. Fourth, high school students' self-esteem could be a significant mediator between aggression and mobile phone dependency. In conclusion, theoretical and practical suggestions were discussed in order to solve the problem of adolescents' mobile phone dependency.
The purpose of this study aimed to examine the effects of ecological systems factors on childhood depression. A total of 2,119 children data from 2013 Korean Children & Youth Panel Survey(the fourth wave)were used in this study. The results of hierarchical regression showed the most ecological systems factors; organisms(child's gender, aggressiveness, attention problems), microsystems(parental neglect, parental abuse, good relationships with friends), exosystem(supportive community environment); had effects on depression. The most influential factors were child's aggressiveness, parental abuse, good relationships with friends, supportive community environment. Finally, this study suggested some implications for practical intervention and further research in childhood depression.
This study aimed to explore the trajectories of computer game use of school age children and to identify the related predictors. The data for this study used Korean Children and Youth Panel data covering from the second year to the sixth year of elementary school. A total of 1,959 participants were analyzed. Latent class growth model was employed to explore the trajectories of computer game use and multinomial logistic regression was conducted to identify the significant predictors. Main results indicated that three types of trajectories were identified: low game using group, high initial using-fluctuating group, and high increasing game using group. Each group was found to be associated deferentially with sex, aggression, attention deficit, main caregiver's education, siblings, parent absence after-school, neglecting, family income, family trip, school grades, and peer relationship. Based on these findings, this study emphasized the importance of predictive intervention for the game user among early school age children and suggested useful practical strategies.

According to the 'low self-esteem hypothesis', low self-esteem plays a causal role in aggression among adolescents, whereas 'threatened egotism theory' postulates that aggression is related to a highly favorable view of the self. The primary purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of self-esteem on aggression among adolescents. Based on the theoretical background, a research model was constructed. The present study analyzed the 5th and 6th wave data from Korea Children and Youth Panel Study (KCYPS). The results showed that self-esteem had a significant negative effect on aggression among high school students. Finally, research implications which contribute to enhancing self-esteem as well as decreasing aggression were also discussed.
