A Study on Middle-aged women playing internet web-board games (고스톱 치는 아줌마들: 중년 기혼 여성들의 웹보드 게임 경험에 관한 연구)

  • This study is an attempt to find out the meaning of game to middle-aged women who enjoy internet web board game as part of the leisure. In order to discover the perceptions and emotions of middle-aged women regarding game, in-depth interviews with the five women of 48 to 63-year-old were conducted. The results are: First, the web board games to middle-aged women is an opposition of labor, but at the same time a part of day-long procedure of labor. Second, most middle-aged women are not in an autonomous environment where they can pursue active hobbies. Third, middle-aged women do not tolerate sacrificing money or housework on game because the web board games are regarded as a worthless activity. Finally, middle-aged women do not transform the existing social relationships into online relationships, nor form new social relationships through internet. Based on these results, we could draw a rough picture overviewing the gaming experience of middle-aged women, which has been more or less ignored in academic field. game experiences; middle-aged women; web board game; leisure/labor; game culture;

The Effects of Life Events and Social Support in Pre-adulthood On Psychological Well-being in Mid Adulthood (중년기 성인의 심리적 복지감에 대한 성인기 이전 생활사건과 사회적 지지의 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine if there was difference of psychological well-being in mid adulthood on experience of life events and social support in pre-adulthood and the effects of life events and social support in pre-adulthood on psychological well-being in mid adulthood fromlife course perspective. The data came from 511 mid-life adults aged from 40 to 59. The main results were as follows: (1) middle aged who were experienced life events concerning school, parent, violence, and death in pre-adulthood showed lower psychological well-being than those who didn't experience life events in pre-adulthood. Psychological well-being of middle aged who received social support in emotional, material, and informational area in pre-adulthood was higher than one of the whom didn't receive social support in pre-adulthood. (2) the experienced life events concerning parent, violence, and death in pre-adulthood effect on psychological well-being in mid adulthood. Also, the received emotional support and informational support in pre-adulthood influence on psychological well-being in mid adulthood. And there were adjusting effects of life events concerning parent and received informational support in pre-adulthood on the psychological well-being in mid adulthood. These findings support life course perspective that past experiences have cumulative and interconnected effect and the individual life was closely connected with other people having meaningful relationships. Also, the intervention on psychological well-being requires not only prevent life events but augment social support that can protect after experience of life events. The intervention should suggest suitable and specific method on life events.

A Study on Factors Affecting Hypertension in Young and Middle-aged Groups: Using Data from the 2021 Community Health Survey (청·중년층의 고혈압에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구: 2021년 지역사회건강조사 자료 활용)

  • Objectives: This study aims to examine the general characteristics and physical activity characteristics of young and middle-aged individuals with hypertension, with the goal of identifying key influencing factors and providing public health policy recommendations. Methods: Participants in this study used data from the 2021 Community Health Survey. The study participants include 5,511 individuals diagnosed with hypertension in the young and middle-aged group (aged 19 to 49). The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 26.0. Results: Model 1 is the influencing factors of young and middle-aged hypertensive patients according to general characteristics. The explanatory power is R2= .065. The influencing factors are as follows. Economic activity (𝛽= -.219, p<.001), breakfast per week (𝛽= .117, p<.001), gender (𝛽= .090, p<.001), subjective health status (𝛽= .073, p<.001), and education level (𝛽= .069, p<.001). Model 2 is the influencing factors of young and middle-aged hypertensive patients, including physical activity characteristics. The explanatory power is R2= .076. The influencing factors are as follows. Strength exercises (𝛽= -4.791, p<.001), the walking activity (𝛽= -2.694, p<.01), and the high-intensity physical activity (𝛽= -2.629, p<.01). Conclusion: The active management of young and middle-aged hypertension is essential to prevent progression to serious disease. To prevent hypertension in young and middle-aged people, health education is needed to develop and utilize health promotion programs that take into account general characteristics and physical activity characteristics.

A Influence Effect of Mid-life Religious Life and Faith Maturity on the Couples' Life Satisfaction (중년기 종교 활동과 신앙성숙도가 부부생활만족도에 미치는 영향분석연구)

  • The study has found that the main reasons affecting to the mature conjugal relations of middle-aged persons are closely related with sede factors brought about after marriage. Comparatively the factors before marriage have more or less weak power on the conjugal relations. They are mature relations wp between husbands and wives, stable and enough incede, and religious activities, which have deep relations with the satisfactory conjugal relations. C. G. Jung divided the whole life span as self-assuredness period in the first half and self-convergence period in the second half. The first is the period when one does his or her best to get external and physical self. On the contrary, the second is the middle-aged period one finds his or her meaning of life in the religious, philosophical, intuitional, and spiritual world, which lead life into harmony and integration. Therefore if one overcomes some psychological crisis related with middle-aged development he or she can enjoy happy senescence(old age). The study has suggested through literature investigation the definition of middle age and the developmental traits of middle age, and the relations between religions and conjugal relations of middle-aged husbands and wives. Futhermore, it has analyzed the theories which religions have close relations with the life satisfaction of middle-aged conjugal relations. In order to give an analysis the influence of the variable of religious activities and religious maturity, with the degree of conjugal satisfaction, 400 middle age are selected as the object of the study whose ages are ranging from 35 years to 60 years, and who reside in Seoul or near Seoul. They were asked to fill out the questionnaires asking about religious activities, religious maturity, and the conjugal satisfaction from March 25th to April 30th, 2009. The results of the survey have been statistically processed and analyzed. First, the higher religious maturity gives positive influence on the general religious activities including public service, human relations, and spiritual stability. That is, this result indicates that the individual, spiritual, and formal religious activities give to a degree influence on the religious maturity. Second, the maturity of religious life resulting from religious activities has a causation with the satisfaction of conjugal life. In more details, religious activities has a positive influence on the satisfaction of conjugal life(T=31.36, p<.001) In more details, religious activities has a positive influence on the religious maturity(T=31.36, p<.001), and religious activities has a positive influence on the satisfaction of conjugal life(T=33.81, p<.001), and the religious maturity has a positive influence on the satisfaction of conjugal life(T=28.64, p<.001) Third, as we analyze the main effects which religious activities and the religious maturity could give influence on the satisfaction of conjugal life, it is found that both religious activities(F=15.95, p<.001) and the religious maturity(F=23.94, p<.001) give a positive influence on the satisfaction of conjugal life. In conclusion, it is sure that religious activities and the religious maturity have a close relations with the satisfaction of conjugal life. Therefore it can be said that religious activities at the protestant religion, buddhism, and catholic religion can give an important influence on the satisfaction of middle-aged conjugal life.

Converged Influencing Factors of Health Promotion Behaviors, Menopausal Symptoms and Wisdom in the Middle-Aged Women on Health Conservation (중년여성의 건강증진행위, 갱년기증상, 지혜가 건강보존에 미치는 융합적 영향요인)

  • This study aimed to examine the multiple factors to affect the health conservation in the middle aged women. The subjects were 143 middle aged women from 40 to 59 years old and the data collection period was from June 1 to 25, 2016. The data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. We found a significantly positive association between health conservation and health promotion behaviors among middle-aged women. However, menopausal symptoms and wisdom were not significantly associated with health conservation. Stepwise multiple regression analysis was performed to analyze the most correlation variables were health enhancement behaviors with 12.5% and existence of spouse with 3.2%. This study provides more ensured fundamental data for the health conservation and enhancement in the middle aged women.

The Relationship between Meaning in life and Resilience in Middle-aged adults : Mediating effect of Self-esteem (중년의 삶의 의미와 회복력과의 관계 : 자아존중감의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediation effects of self-esteem on the relationship between meaning in life and resilience in middle-aged adults. The data were collected from May to June 2019 by giving a questionnaire to 148 middle-aged adults between the ages of 45-64 years. The research tools were meaning in life, self-esteem, and resilience. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple linear regression using the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. The result showed that the difference in resilience relating to general characteristics were significant age, religion, and health. There were significant positive correlations among meaning in life, self-esteem, and resilience. Self-esteem had a mediating effect on the relationship between meaning in life and resilience. Based on the findings of this study, in order to strengthen the resilience of middle-aged adults, it is necessary to develop a program that promotes self-esteem as well as meaning in life. This will help them have a healthy middle age and improve their quality of life.

The influence of functional health literacy on health promotion behavior (기능적 의료정보 이해능력이 건강증진행위에 미치는 영향)

  • This study identified the level of functional health literacy and health promotion behavior and their relationship among middle-aged women. Data were collected from 163 middle-aged women between 40 and 64 residing D city and K province from December 1th to 26th, 2014 with a convenient sampling method. The average score of functional health literacy and health promotion behavior were $4.75{\pm}2.98$ and $2.30{\pm}0.55$, respectively Health promotion behavior was positively associated with functional health literacy. The full model accounted for 43.2% of the variance in health promotion behavior in middle-aged women. Therefore, strategies that effectively improving the level of functional health literacy are necessary to promote health behaviors in middle-aged women so that they have better health status and quality of life in later stage of life.

Relationships between sleep time and depression and suicidal ideation in middle aged women (중년 여성의 수면시간과 우울 및 자살생각의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the relationships between sleep time and depression and suicidal ideation in middle aged women. The subjects of this study were 1,617 women aged 40-64 years who participated in the Seventh Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES VII-2), 2017. Data were downloaded from the KNHANES website and were analysed through complex sampling design data analysis using IBM SPSS 21.0 program. Suicidal ideation is 3.65 times higher in women who sleeps for five hours or less in weekend than in women who sleeps more than seven hours and less than nine hours in weekend. These result indicate that suicide prevention program for middle aged women should include strategies for maintaining proper sleep times and women who sleeps for five hours or less should be considered as a priority intervention case. In additions, further studies on the relationship between sleep times and depression of middle aged women should be conducted.

The effects of participation in a combined exercise program on the metabolic syndrome indices and physical fitness in the obese middle-aged women (비만 중년여성의 복합운동이 대사증후군 지표와 건강체력에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to observe the effects of the 12-week comprehensive exercise program on the metabolic syndrome index and general health of overweight middle aged women. Before and after the exercise program, research participants were measured in metabolic syndrome index and health fitness. The measurements gathered before and after the exercise program were analyzed through SPSS 18.0 to calculate average and standard deviation of all response variables. To find changes in the response variables before and after the 12-week program, Wilcoxon signed rank test was performed at a significance level of ${\alpha}$=.05. The results of this research are as follows. The 12-week comprehensive exercise program has a positive impact on the metabolic index and health fitness of overweight middle-aged women.

Influences of Social Support and Health Promotion Behavior on Aging Anxiety among Middle Aged Women (중년여성의 사회적 지지, 건강증진행위가 노화불안에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the influence of social support and health promotion behavior on aging anxiety among middle aged women. The sample for this study consisted of 160 women aged 40 to 60 living in C city in Korea. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, One-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 23.0. It was found that: (a) aging anxiety had a negative correlation with health promoting behavior(r=-.614, <.001), spousal support(r=-.411, <.001), whereas health promotion behavior had a positive correlation with spousal support(r=.429, <.001) (b) Factors influencing aging anxiety were identified as following; nutrition, stress management, menopause, spousal support with 44.7% explanatory power. In this study, it was found that nutrition, stress management, spouse support, and menopause awareness among middle-aged women lowered aging anxiety. Further research is needed to develop programs that include these variables and to verify their effects.
