  • In this study, we analyzed the relationship between the physical science domain of TIMSS 2019 and the Korean science curriculum. Twelve subjects are presented in the physical science domain of the TIMSS 2019 4th grade evaluation framework. Research group consisting of elementary and middle school teachers and science education experts, a total of 12, participated to analyze in which grade these subjects were included in the Korea 2009 revised and 2015 revised science curriculum. As a results of analyzing whether the achievement standards of the TIMSS 2019 evaluation framework and Korean science curriculum are consistent, the subjects pertinent to chemistry like 'chemical changes in everyday life,' 'heat transfer,' and 'electricity and simple electrical circuits' appeared not covered at all until the 4th grade curriculum in Korea. Given that the TIMSS 2019 evaluation framework is an international achievement standard, we are proposing to improve the Korean curriculum as follows: first, for the development of the next science curriculum, there is a need for science curriculum organized from the 1st grade of elementary school to connect the content and scope of chemistry in elementary, middle, and high schools as a whole including the Nuri curriculum. Second, as an alternative to the problem of suitability of learning volume and level of learning, it is possible to think of a method to readjust the grade of dealing with related concepts by lowering the difficulty or simplifying the concept. Third, it is necessary to discuss about introducing essential concepts and standard terms into Korea science curriculum according to international trends.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a mentoring program designed to assist nursing students adjust to life in college and strengthen their leadership abilities. The mentoring program consisted of nine sessions including information on basic mentorship functions, as well as the results of similar previous studies. This was a quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent control group pre-post test design in order to evaluate the results of this program. Mentoring and data collection were performed from March 3 to May 30, 2014. The experimental group participants included 20 mentee students (in grades 1 and 2), and 20 mentors (in grades 3 and 4). Both pre and post tests were administered before and after the mentoring program. The score for "adjust to life in college" was more significantly increased in the mentee student experimental group as compared with the control group. Similarly, the post test score for "leadership" was more significantly increased from the pre test score in the mentor student experimental group. However, no statistically significant differences were found for the post-pre test "leadership" score between the mentor student experimental group and the control group. These results suggested that mentoring had a significant effect on the ability of nursing students to adjust to life in college, as well as to strengthen their leadership abilities, and the program needs more developed contents for leadership.

  • This study was to examine the effects of smart learning on the academic performances of nursing students. The study examined and compared the level of academic achievement, critical thinking skill, and class satisfaction, between control and experimental groups after applying the smart learning program to the experimental group. The study was designed using a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The subject of this study consisted of 78 nursing students (experimental group of 37 and the control group of 41) who were the third year nursing students of a university in a S city located in J province. The data were analyzed using the SPSS 20.0 program to perform ${\chi}^2$-test, Fisher's exact test, and independent t-test. There were statistically significant differences in academic achievement (t=2.50, p=.014), critical thinking (t=4.83, p<.001), and class satisfaction (t=6.65, p<.001) between the control and experimental groups. The study results indicate that the smart learning program was effective in increasing academic achievement, critical thinking, and class satisfaction for nursing students.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of nursing process education based on flipped learning on self-directed learning ability and academic achievement of nursing students. A quasi-experimental study employing a nonequivalent control group and pre-post design was conducted. The study group was composed of 135 college students enrolled in the 2nd grade of C nursing college as an experimental group and 103 college students enrolled in the 2nd grade of the D university nursing department as a control group. The experimental group participated in flipped learning with the theme of nursing process once a week for 5 weeks, and the control group applied the traditional teaching method. Data were analyzed using χ2-test and Independent t-test with SPSS 26.0 program. There were significant differences in self-directed learning ability(t=-4.71, p<.001) and academic achievement(t=-4.93, p<.001) of participants between experimental group and control group after completion of 5 sessions flipped learning. The results indicate that flipped learning can be used to improve self-directed learning ability and academic achievement of nursing students. As a result of this study, the basis for using flipped learning will be prepared, and furthermore, it will have a positive effect on the clinical practice and problem solving ability of nursing students.

For this purpose, three different elementary schools teachers and students to a group of grades 3-4 mathematics textbooks for the effects of the storytelling questionnaire study. Survey, teachers were given an overall rating of storytelling in mathematics textbooks were positive recognition. Specifically, learning motivation and communication have significant positive recognition and learning of mathematics content that was helpful. The students are given an overall rating of storytelling textbooks showed a positive reaction. Grade 3 students were more positive than the four-year students. More specifically, mathematics is interesting storytelling. That public education was more fun than private supplementary education. But for storytelling low-level math students need measures showed insignificant changes.

  • This study was performed to develop and evaluate the effects of Team-Based Learning(TBL) on cardiac problem in adult nursing. The study measured problem-solving ability, critical thinking disposition, academic achievement and, class satisfaction for learning outcomes of course. Pretest-posttest design with nonequivalent control group was utilized to analyze the effects of TBL. Experimental group and control group each consisting of 52, 54 participants was picked from the junior students. The experimental group was given the TBL for 6 hours and control group was given a lecture and case-based announcement class. In results, significant improvements were found in problem-solving ability(F=5.92, p=.017), and class satisfaction(F=5.80, p=.018). Critical thinking disposition and academic achievement of experimental group were improved than those of control group, but there were not statistically significant difference.

  • This study was conducted to identify the effects of fundamental nursing practice education using flipped learning on self confidence performance, academic achievement and critical thinking. The subjects of this study were 38 experimental groups and 36 control groups, who were in the second year of the department of nursing at D university, and Flip learning was applied to the experimental group for four weeks, while the existing teaching methods were applied to the control group. As a result, the academic achievement of vital signs in the experimental group after the experiment with flip learning was significantly higher than the control group (t=2.921, p=.005), but other variables were not significant. In addition, the critical thinking of the experimental group was significantly increased after the experiment than before (t=2.277 p=.029). However, it was not significant in the control group. In the future, various studies using flip learning in nursing are needed.

  • This study examined the effects of hospice & palliative care education programs for nursing students, in terms of spiritual well-being and knowledge concerning advance directives. This is a quasi-experimental study of non-equivalent control groups, and includes a pre-test and post-test design. Data was collected between September to December 2018, enrolling third grade nursing college students attending a university in C city: 22 subjects in the experimental group and 27 subjects in the control group. The experimental group was provided the education as a regular subject, 2 hours a week for 7 weeks, for a total of 14 hours. Ed. Notes: I suggest you maintain any one unit for mentioning time. Hence, I changed 120 mins to 2 hours. Data were analyzed by X2 test, Fisher's exact, t-test, independent t-test, and paired t-test, using the SPSS 21.0 program. After attending the program, spiritual well-being showed a significant increase (t=2.80, p=0.009). However, there was no significant difference between groups in knowledge regarding advance directives (t=1.33, p=0.190). Our results indicate that the hospice & palliative care education program helps nursing students improve their score of spiritual well-being. We believe that these results contribute basic data for the future development of hospice-palliative care curriculum.
